Well most teenagers like to show off and aren't mature enough to start driving at that age but there are some that are mature so it is fine.

I believe there's a new law in California that states you have to be 18 to obtain your license.
In my opinion...16 is definitely too young. I have to say that there's ALWAYS the acception to the rule so I'm sure there are the very responsible teens out there who are knowledgable and realize that there are serious consequences for driving carelessly/wrecklessly. It's not worth the risk though...better safe than sorry. I rather know that kids have to wait to be 18 and feel a bit of relief and know that there are some disappointed teens out there instead of knowing the teens are happy but the roads aren't as safe.
HOWEVER...Don't get me wrong...I do realize that HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS AND THOUSANDS of adults drive wrecklessly and carelessly on a daily basis...it's not something that's age related ONLY...but age can definitely play a part in the maturity of a driver and their outlook on the way they drive and how their driving will effect themselves and others.

I don't really think so. Not that there are some 16yr olds that can't be responsible because they can. But at that age, you're so happy to feel that freedom that you get when you drive, you tend to forget or just ignore being responsible.

Just my two cents on this issue. I am 17 and have been driving since I was 16 and I definitely think I was ready. However it always depends on the person, not always the age. Discriminating against all teenage drivers is not the way to go just because a handful are immature and drive recklessly. Perhaps the MVA should have a harder test for all new drivers?

When I was 16 I thought so, but now that I have teenagers of my own I would say it depends on the maturity and responsibility level if they are ready to drive or not. I know in my state they are really pushing to make the legal driving age 18.
