Why did I lose a star? Has this happened to you?

I just posted a reply to several people and I just noticed that I am now back to 9 instead of 10 in the star rating. I don't know how this happened and would like to know if anyone can explain it to me. ALso has anyone else had this happen to them?
Did I do something wrong? If so I'm not aware of it.

I had the same problem about a month ago. My ranking was always 10, I am a member here for 6 months already and it was always 10. Then one day I noticed I went back to 9. I was really surprised.
i think that it actually means that someone didn't like what you wrote and they gave you - instead of + while reading what you wrote. Maybe that someone was just 1 person so he got so mad and went trough all your old posts pressing - to lower your ranking, or maybe a lot of people didn't like what you wrote and they gave you just 1 - but as there was a lot of them at the end your rank went down.
Usually if you write about religion and some personal themes that people have very strong opinions about that will get you bad mark.

Thank you. I did reply to someone and they got upset at what I said. Even though I explained why I said it. I guess they just didn't get it. I meant no harm. But upset they do get at times I guess. I have not given anyone - even if I didn't like what they said. I give + or nothing and I do rank the best response. Anyway some people will give - to others no matter what.
I just didn't know if I had done something wrong. I didn't want to make the same mistake. Thank you for your reply.

I think that it is so wrong for others to rate neg. because they didn't agree with what is being said. It is a shame that some are vindictive and abuse a system for their own enjoyment.

I agree. If you start a discussion you should be prepared for people not to agree with what you are saying or your point of view. Isn't that part of the experience of myLot? I don't understand why people would do that. It doesn't put more money into their pocket and I don't believe it will take money out of yours or prevent you from making money. It would be nice if myLot had a security flag, so to speak, that would go up if someone is trying to use vindictive behavior like this.

When you are here you have to be prepared for this sort of surprises. It is not that you are not good but someone out there is not in favor of your discussion or respond and deliberately put a minus thus affecting your star. I have been here long enough to experience the constant movement of my rating. My star used to be 10 and went down to 9. It has not gone up ever since.

Thank you. I'm sorry that yours went down and has not went back up! How sad that some people can do suck things to others. Maybe both of ours will go back up. At least I know that it may not.

It happened to me. I managed to get a rating of a blue star some months ago. But it went down immediatedly. I have been with the red star that I am getting accustomed to it... but yes I know your feeling that you get a bit annoyed that someone has rated you negatively.

This is the first time this happened to me. I didn't get annoued, it hurt my feelings. I wondered what I had done that made my rating go down, or the color of my star. I now know why as I've had it explained to me. It still hurts my feelings as I have never said anything or meant t that would cause someone to give me a bad rating. Thanks ronald.

I used to think that a low star rating was a Badge of Honor. My belief was, those with a 9 star or better were so very careful never to offend, they were very poor myLotters. After all this is a discussion forum, and if everybody agreed with everyone, it would soon wither and die. But now I've come to a different conclusion. I believe the myLot Managers (for a reason only they know and are not telling) cut the rating down for some reason on selected members. I began my myLot life with an 7 and soon moved up to 9, was there for a couple of months, and slid down to 7 where I remain today after being there for about a Year. MY advise would be- forget the Rating and the Star. It has no effect on your Payout and is meaningless in every other way.

Well, you don't have to sulk too much because it has happened to me too. I was at 93/100 a couple of weeks ago, and then it went down to 92 then 91 as you can see now. There is only one explanation for the decreasing level of the star rating; some other member has rated a negative (-) for a discussion or response that you made. I heard from other users that this number will only fall once you accumulate five negative (-) ratings from other members; that is, 5 negative rates to drop from eg. 93/100 to 92/100. I really don't understand why people would rate someone else down, but I learnt not to be too fussy about that already. I did contemplate on starting a discussion ranting about my falling star rating, but I decided not to because that would seem a bit immature, demanding for attention and sympathy. As it is not going to affect my earnings anyway, I decided not to care too much about it. I guess we should just be grateful because I'm sure we can see so many other users that have star ratings much lower than ours. But if it makes you feel better, I'm going to give you a "+" rating to help get it back up a little. I would appreciate if you do the same to me, but it's OK if you don't, because like I said, I'm not worrying about star ratings anymore. Well, have a nice day and happy mylotting! Don't let this small issue pull you down, k?

Thank you for explaining it to me. I just didn't know why it changed. I didn't want to do anything wrong and I thought I mght have.
I don't give anyone - ratings. If I don't like what they say I just move on. I always rate people either with a + or the best response.
I don't think I was being as you put it immature. I just wanted to know what if anything I did wrong so I wouldn't do it again, hopefully.
I will give you a star because I like that you explained this to me as to how it works.

Hi again....don't get me wrong, I didn't refer to you as immature. If you read my response again carefully, you will notice that I was referring to myself and the way I see things. Besides, I don't judge people for their actions, but rather I just make sure my own actions are carried out to the best that I can. Also, you didn't mention whether you were bothered with these ratings or not, and you just wanted to know whether you did anything wrong for it to drop....so I can't judge you for that, can I? By the way, thanks for the "+"....I appreciate it, but I don't take it as a priority.... My priority is always sharing my thoughts and opinions, and to make friends on mylot; secondary priority is earnings....

This happens all the time to most people here. Maybe you've come across people who rated you with "-". Ratings go up when obtain enough "+" and go down with "-". But that's actually the challenge like what most people told me. To keep a 10 star. I hope you do get it back. You actually deserve that 10. So I'll give you a hand by rating you now. God bless and have a nice day!

Thank you so much selece, you make me feel good when we talk. I appreciate your comment. I never give anyone a -. If I don't like what they say or it doesn't really pertain to what I ask or said then I just don't rate them. But everyone usually gets a + from me. I also always rate the best response.
Thanks again.

I don't know why your rating would be lowered. I hope that you get it back. I never even notice what mine is and I tend to forget to rate everyone's post. Could that cause it? I will go rate and see if that helps.

Mylot reputation do change based on the number of positive ratings and the number of negative ratings you receive. Most of the time people don't know the reason why their reputation suddenly decreases. It could just be a casual open talk ,which some one would have considered hateful and perhaps rated it negative. This is the most common reason for drop in the earnings.
There could also be another possibility. When you get lesser number of positive ratings, then also there is a chance that your rating will decrease.
Well, this has happened to me.I was once on 94/100 and in less than a week it shrank down to 84/100 and I am yet to find the reason for that sharp decline.
I hope you get back your ratings quite soon. All the best for that.
Also,do not worry too much about the decrease in the ratings. Now a days, some times the reputations are even corrupt, and do not indicate the actual rating of yours.
Cheers! Have a nice day
Happy mylotting and happy earnings.

hi dear all of you are seniors who are discussing this problem.
but it may happen to any one.
marking and stars , rating etc. is a part of the system and there must be some rules of the game. the same system rated you at 10 and the same system has rated you at 9 and you feel let down . i feel there is no room for gloom . just upm grade your discussions .
you will soon see the end results.
all the very best.
