I like Associated Content, but then, I like writing short articles and rambling on about whatever I feel like.
Made about $20 off them so far, mostly from up-front payments for topics they want covering, got about four articles pending for payment, also. The rest, I earn from page hits. Given I've finally got an idea of how Search Engine Optimisation works now, I expect these to start slowly rising too :)

I've been using both for about 6 months (actually, it's more like a year with Helium), and had no problem.
Helium pay outs when you have a total of $25 or more; you then request the payment, and they send it to you at the end of the month. I've had about $26 from them, have another $3 sitting on my account not doing much. Written about 80 articles to get that much. They have third parties who offer anything from $10 to over a $100 for the best article on a given subject, and competitions also where the best articles in given subjects can win similar amounts. Never won either of these, but it all seems above board.
AC updates the estimated page hits weekly, and pays you according to those. It works out roughly at the minute as $1.50 per 1000 hits. I've had these sent either singly or in lumps, depending on when you request them, but you can have them at any time once they're approved. I think the least they've sent me was about $0.23 in a payment. They also pay up-front for articles they want, usually anywhere from $1.50 to 12.50, and these payment you usually get within a day or two of submitting and having the article checked. I've had two payments for $4 in the last week or so, one for an article on cleaning leather furniture, the other on fitting dimmer switches. Neither of which I've ever done, but it's amazing what you can learn online ;)
Both sites are pretty reputable, I'd say. I tend to use AC more at the minute because a) their editor is friendlier, and allows you to links and images to articles, and b) they seem to pay more. I've had about the same money from both, but I've only written a quarter as many articles on AC.
No, you don't need to pay anything upfront, and neither site requires a referral. I can send you one for Helium if you like, as any invites I email out and are accepted earn me money too, but it's certainly not required.
I've heard of one person who claims to have been scammed by Helium; they 'owe' her around $800. But given she was using an automated script to generate fake hits to her articles, she's lucky to have got anything out of them ;)

Hi sktburla, I have a few sites that I use daily. One in particular I have been doing very well on. If you are interested, go ahead and take a look at my profile, I have them listed on there. The top site on my list is my biggest earner. I have more info for each site on my profile too, including my current earnings for my top site. That way you can have an idea of what the sites are about. If you have any questions, feel free to ask and I can help you out.

Responding to your discussion regarding the making money on the net,Wolfechu, made some effecive guidance that may enjoyed by many people like me. I have joined at 'AC' as well as 'Helium' and published articles there. Those sites are very nice to earn money,
provoded that you should be efficient in the language.I really appreciate Wolfechu's opinion and it was very much helpful to me.

I have had luck with the GPTs banners posted in my profile. They are all free to join. I never use my credit card information on any of the offer sites and don't plan to anytime soon. I also am really liking survey sites as well, I have made over about $300 from surveys, especially Opinion Outpost. Check out my website for more survey companies. I am still fairly new to MyLot, so I am not sure how much money I will make with this site. Good luck!
