Are you hearing fireworks?

I live in a semi-rural area. Fireworks are illegal in town, but out here they're not. I start hearing the neighbors popping fireworks from the day the fireworks stands open about the 25th of June til well into the month of July.
How in the world can people afford to buy that many fireworks, and why don't they teach their children what the 4th of July is about in America? It was really bad when I was working because they'd be popping fireworks every night til after midnight for 2 weeks. Now that I'm retired it's just irritating.
I'm all for celebrating Independence Day. . .on July 4th! Listening to fireworks for what seems like forever is not acceptable, but there's nothing I can do about it. ARRRRRGGH.

I can hear fireworks outside my window right now. Fireworks are legal in the town I live in. They can be shot off until 11pm and then on July 4th they can be shot off until midnight. I guess I get used to them after awhile.

I wouldn't mind if there was a cut off point and I could look forward to 11 o clock, but out here there's no such ordinance. :(

It's almost Canada DAy, so we're bound to hear some fireworks here in Guelph. My husbad is scared of fire works, ecaus they trigger combat related flashbacks to when he was in Viet Nam. When we are together, we try to avoid ire works.

I can certainly feel for you. I just don't know how these combat vets make it through the celebrations.

I don't live in a rural area, but instead I live in a busy suburb. Fireworks are illegal here, but here's the kick; my neighbor across the street who is a retired fireman has been getting fireworks for his kids to ignite for years now. It's like a war zone on my block between nine and eleven at night so we either try to stay in on the fourth or go out somewhere until it's all over. Fireworks are more noisy and dangerous than anything else and every year someone gets badly hurt.

Even though I would hate the noise I'm just paranoid enough I'd have to stay home and make sure they didn't start a fire that destroyed my home!

I have heard several fireworks this evening (6/29) in my neighborhood. I'll hear a lot of them until after July 4. I usually hear them through August. Then on New Years. And whatever other occasion they can find to shoot them off. Oh, I always hear them on graduation night, too. Last year, one house down the street was burned by neighbors' fireworks. The family who lived in the house was away on vacation. Since so many in the neighborhood was shooting them off, they don't know whose caught it on fire. It was a few hours later when the flames took over after smoldering. I don't think fireworks should be allowed within city limits, except for the official ones at the park display where there are firemen and other officials in charge.

Yes, it was terrible. And when we went by the next day, it saddened me to be able to see the charred baby bed right next to the window where part of the fire had been. It made me thankful they were away on vacation.
Happy 4th of July to you!

OMG. That is terrible. The houses out here are pretty far apart but what I worry about in dry years is that the dry grass will catch fire, then creep up to the house. Of course in really dry years the fireworks stands can't even open because of that.

She is not referring to the fireworks shows that are put on around the country, most everyone enjoys those, but in some parts of America the general public can and do buy fireworks and do not use common sense when setting them off.

I do love the public fireworks shows! The colors and patterns are beautiful, but pal. is right. It's the individuals that buy them and pop them for weeks on end that irritate me. It's annoying to listen every night and it's dangerous.

As I have grown older I am finding myself feeling the same way that you do. It upsets my dog and the air gets heavy with smoke. I also worry about how dry this season has been and that fires will get started.
I am really in favor of the city putting on a big display and watching it from a distance. No threat of fires and no one gets hurts. I avoid large crowds and noise. I do enjoy a good display though!

I love the professional fireworks displays. I live about 7 miles from 3 areas that put them on. I can sit in my yard and watch them all and don't have to listen to the noise!

Yes the fireworks are going off in out town too. But it is illegal untill July 2nd. if the police fines who sets them off they will get a ticket. After that they can set them off untill 11:00 and on the 4ht untill 12:00.

I know how you feel, I used to live in a rural part of the Hill Country, and the kids around there did the same thing. However, for me it was more that just irritating, as I was a volunteer firefighter, and kids pay no attention to what is around them or how dry the conditions are. We were called out on several fires every year that were set off by kids setting off fireworks in a dry area. I have always loved celebrating the 4th, because of it's meaning. And I love watching a fireworks show, however, I wish they would ban sells of fireworks to the general public, and leave it to the ones that put on the shows. I know there are a few, but for the most part the general public does not use good sense when setting off fireworks.

As a firefighter, you know all the dangers. Of course I know that teenagers don't listen to their parents, but I think if the parents were a little more proactive with their kids when they were growing up there'd be less of a problem.

I know there are alot of fireworks that go off around here even before June.I'm not sure why they start selling them so early but there should be a law.

I say let people celebrate however they want to celebrate, whether its popping fireworks all night or not doesn't bother me any, I myself like popping fireworks, I grew up doing it, and now all my nephews like to do it. I live in a rural area also, and I know alot of people out here do it, but for some reason I can't hear anything while I'm in the house, unless I go outside then I hear them. But the houses around here aren't very close together, we have alot of farmland around us.

The people pop fireworks just for proud of nation, it's independence. I think is same with 10.1 day in our nation. We have some holidays for it, but no fireworks.you will be good after sometimes, don't angry.

Not angry, just irritated. The fireworks are usually done as a celebration of our nation's freedom, but the kids just like the noise and the display. When they start setting them off as soon as they go on sale, you know they don't know the meaning.

I certainly hope they banned them in California. That area is just a tinder box this year. They do ban them here when we have an extremely dry year.

Yes it can be annoying since we have moved I don't hear them that much here it is the 30th of June and I haven't heard any yet. I do know we can't assume these kids or adults that are lightening these fire works do not or are not being taught what the forth of july is all about. Now I see it this way if a person can and has the money to light fireworks everyday of their life because they like them or for whatever reason then more power to them. But I think there should be a cut off time at night when they should stop due to the fact some people do work the next day and do need their sleep. Here is South Carolina you can buy them all year round and July 4th and New Years are the main selling days and few weeks before eac of those holidays stands pop up everywhere. When I lived in California where I lived it was illegal to have them so you know we heard them every night for couple weeks before and a week or so after the 4th. I had to be up early for work so yes was annoying but I got me some soft comfortable ear plus around that time. lol But remember hun fireworks are not what make the 4th and well am sure everyone that is in US long enough know about the what the 4th of July is to the US.

You know what? Come to think of it, I've not heard fireworks being shot off yet. I moved to this small town last October and it's really pretty quiet compared to where I used to live.
For several years, I lived in a town that is quite a bit bigger than where I am and there were fireworks shot off from 2 weeks before the 4th of July 'til about halfway through the month. Two summers ago, I sat on my porch and watched the fireworks in the neighborhood.
I believe that fireworks should be illegal everywhere and the only ones allowed to use them would be those who are trained and licensed. The fireworks would be used for celebrations such as 4th of July and New Year's Eve.

the children are supposed to know why they could be popping firework in july, i guess that some of them will asked their mom or day that question, however if happen any children really don't know the reason why we are popping firework it proves that they don't care about it. and they would not keep it in mind even if you told him several time.
