Can you relate?

I find sometimes that when I am watching movies, I can easily relate to the characters and the events that go on. How about you. Do you feel the same way about relating to them?

A few times I do relate to the characters and events in movie. Most times I'm not as engaged in the fiction. It takes very interesting characters and situations for me to immerse myself beyond the norm in their role and events.

I'm always searching for something to relate to when I'm watching something, whether it's a movie or TV show. To me, that's the only way to tell if a movie is well written. Even if I can't quite relate to a character, I look for something that will give me perspective from their point of view.

I think that some of the better writers are striving to do just that, have the audience relate to their characters. It draws the audience in and captivates them.
