Do you like conversing with cab/taxi drivers? Generally I am wary about conversing with strangers and even if they ask me a few questions about where I'm from and what I do I keep my answers to a minimum of 5-6 words. I can understand if they're friendly and just are bored taking and dropping passengers to their destination but I've also encountered some who got too friendly that they asked for my number. I hate being asked for my number especially if it's someone I barely know. So if they start asking me a few questions, I make sure I answer in a few words and give them the I-don't-want-to-talk look.

Here's t otherside of the coin. I was a cab driver in Des Moines IA. and Denver CO. You can learn alot about a persondriving a cab. Most people do want to talk to you, it helps past the time. Some I picked up, wish they didnt talk. They were usually drunk or high. If you are paying attention you can pick out the ones that dont want to talk. But thats just me. I know drivers that were just pains in th a...

Nice to hear about the driver's point of view. It does help to pass the time. I do have a cab driver I regularly call up every time I go to a certain mall here. He's very talkative and I didn't mind because he's the husband of my co-worker. That's how I actually got to know him. He does find it boring sometimes if he doesn't talk while driving.

aha, nice to meet you.
you surely get a great point, I like to talk with drivers when i am on a cab, but sometimes i do want to say no word, so we just keep silent, but if i meet a driver who like to talk very much. I'll talk to him too, Usually, the driver is very sophisticated, so they can decide to when to talk, with whom to talk.
have a good day.

Hey joliefile, haha, it must be really awkward to be asked for your number from a cab driver. Nevertheless, you can always say you don't want to give your number or maybe give a false number. I always converse with cab drivers because sometimes I feel bored when I am in the taxi. Sometimes they give me some useful info but most of the times they talk crap. I just play along. Cheers, :D

I find it weird when they ask for my number. So I give them my number but I replace one of two digits.
Sometimes it's hard to converse with drivers here. They don't speak English and I only understand a few Bahasa.

well, like you I am weary about over-talkative drivers especially if they are over friendly.
Although some are sincere some use this to try and distract you and they lengthen your trip so you would actually pay more than you should.

I know what you mean. Few drivers can be sneaky like that.

Yes you have some Cab drivers who love to ask for your numbers but sometimes it is not for intimate relations but to call and see if you need any where to go. What I would suggest to you is that if you see where they are asking you for your numbers just in turn ask them for theirs. You never know when you are on the road and in need of a cabbie. It is best to be pleasant to them also because in turns you leave something in their car you will be able to receive it back. You can be friendly but with a pleasant notion that you are not in need of a relationship.
Cabbies has to be pleasant and because of this some of them might come across over friendly and annoying just remember that they are doing their job. Customer Service is the key in their line of work.

Yeah customer service is a part of their work. I guess I'm just paranoid because I was so scared one time when a cab driver got too uncomfortably friendly that he squeezed my hand when I gave him a few bills. I hurriedly got out of the cab and never looked back. He even asked for my number but I gave him the wrong one.

I like to talk to taxi drivers very much, of course, if he doesn't want to talk, I won't too, from them you can know much about the society, and i guess because of their boring work, they usually like to talk with others, whatever topic, and they can meet so many people, so sometimes the story they tell are really interesting.
as you know, I'm a man, so no drivers asked for my number, lcl. but I think during such a short period of driving time. it's hard to make friends between you and him, I guess they just want to have something with you.
Needless to say, beautiful girl will always be welcomed everywhere, so you are doing correctly.

Hehe. Lucky for you you're a guy there's no need to be paranoid even when you're in a cab late at night.

I like conversing with the drivers, I do it first when I travel long in a cab/taxi, it makes me entertained by hearing the opinion of the drivers about certain things, I often ask them about politcal issues and other stuff. Second I do it when it is late already, just to ease the tension of fear in the drivers... And most of the time I enjoy talking to them.

They surprise me sometimes with their opinions on politics. Other times I hear them talking about their outlook on life. I begin to wonder if they really should be spending their time driving all day.

I am very shy around strangers and seldom talk to a cab
driver except to give my apartment street address and direct him how to get there. I am uncomfortable making small talk
and just keep my mouth shut until I get to my apartment.
