What is your opinion with regards to the patient being ignored at a hospital in New York? This psychiatric client is in the emergency room of this hospital for 24 hours. When she dropped at the floor she was not attended immediately eventhough they saw this incident.. it's quite disgusting, even psychiatric clients have their own rights. we in the healthcare sector make our pledge to serve every one. is it because of the client's race that she was not attended that she has to sit on that room for 24 hours waiting for an intervention until she died?

Oh this is not right. There are right methods in attending patients in Emergency Room like triage. It's like they are not using these methods. Patients with severe illness should attended first, this hospital and health care providers should be sued and investigate. There are some complaints here in the Philippines like this, maybe due to under staff nurses and doctors are not be able to attend all the patients on Emergency Room. There's a lots of negligence and malpractice that occur now a days because unprofessional treatment to patients.I think the relative of this patient should sue the hospital right away. I never heard about this news in new york.

I saw this yesterday and I can bet you if that was my family member they would be sued for every last penny they had, their kids had and their grandkids had. I would own their car, their house and their clothes on their backs even. They dont know just how devestating that was to someone out there who thought their loved one was being cared for. I dont care if it was a mental hospital, or a private pay $2000 dollar a day hospital, this woman deserved better out of this hospital and I would be sure everyone there knew it too.

that is really cruel and heartless... why do they do that??? a patient is still a patient no matter what race she is... she still deserves to live and it is a life at stake... what kind of professionalism is that??? i thought doctors and nurses are vowed to save people's lives... i am really disgusted whenever i read this kind of news especially if it involves racism... it is discriminations and should not be allowed to happen especially in a hospital... i hope the hospital and the doctors and nurses there involved in this incident will get the punishment for their negligence... take care and have a nice day...

I saw this on television last night and I found it very offensive! Was the woman ignored just because of her race? What was the limit was seeing the man peeking around the corner and observing the woman, but doing absolutely nothing about it! Psychiatric patient or not, that woman deserved better treatment!

Hello bea_29,
Is a sad fact that people get treated like that, in U.K sometime it happens. The public pay for helth care and they get it is disgusting, so have to hope for the best. I hope the client is alright.

When I saw this on TV the other night I could not believe what I was watching. There were other patients in the waiting room and non of them could be bothered to get help or even to walk over to the woman to see if she needed help. Then when I saw the security guard wheel over in his chair to see what was going on, he could not be bothered. What's this world coming to? I know there are good people in the world but there were none there to help that poor woman.

I have seen that video and I am seriously appalled! I think they deserve to be prosecuted rather than just fired. That first security guard who walks in, stands there for a second and walks away should be drawn and quartered. Yes it is a psychiatric facility, but he should have still had a practitioner check on her just to be sure it was nothing to be alarmed about.
There is a security camera there for a reason. They did not keep this patient very secure, did they?
At the nursing home we have a lady who will just blank out and fall to the floor wherever she is. It is part of her psychiatric disorder. We still check her to be sure that is what it is and not something more serious. We make her comfortable and let her come out of it in her own time.

I saw this on the news last night. I didn't quite catch the story but just from watching it, I felt sad. Sad because nobody attended to the patient. It makes me wonder if that is how they treat their patients. And if not, do they have discrimination ? Every person has the right to be treated if she was feeling something.
True, when she dropped to the floor, still no one attended to her immediately. it was like she did not even exist in that room. How sad. Oh well, karma will come around. Those people responsible will have to answer to God.

Oh, this is just horrible, and unbelievable. How heartless can a person get to just stand there and watch a person suffer and die? As someone who has been in psychiatric care, nothing too severe, but still, I definitely think that people are way too mean too people who have mental illnesses. Now, I haven't heard about this story, so I don't know what the severity of this woman's condition, and even what illness she was suffering from, but honestly, it doesn't matter! She was a human being and deserved as much care as anyone else in that hospital. When will people open their hearts and minds? Ever? I hope so!

This is shocking. People in healthcare should be the empathetic ones and jump to their service. It is very disgusting. I am so sorry this has happened and feel totally helpless.
