Does your dog like ice?

Awile back I was filling a cup with ice from the ice maker on the front of the freezer. One cube missed the cup and landed on the floor. My dog, Zoey, quickly picked it up and spent the next few minutes crunching on it. Since then she has been obsessed! Whenever I'm getting ice now, she'll be by my feet to see if she gets a cube too. I figured she would get brain freeze and not like it but she absolutely LOVES it! She'll happily much away. To her it's like a regular treat but without the meat. One time I dumped some ice water in her bowl. She took the ice out to eat it! LOL...I've never had a dog before that loved ice. Is your dog like Zoey? Do they love eating ice?

Oh yes! lol. my last 5 dogs liked to eat ice! The two we have now always come running when we get ice from the freezer door! :) Actually years ago when my first niece was about 2, whenever our 4 dogs ran over while we were getting ice, my niece would run over with them. And whatever ice fell, the dogs and my niece would go after! =P My niece would pick up pieces from the floor and eat them x.x lol. We always made sure the ice was set on 'crushed' when she was around! :)

lol yeah before these dogs I never knew it either! But now that I found out, I can't get away from it! lol. I'm always seeing dogs going after ice! =P And empty water bottles! Have your dogs ever played with those? lol

No, she hasn't discovered the fun with bottles yet! She'll drink from them if I tip it so she can get a sip but she won't grab them. I'm surprised because she usually takes off with everything else! LOL

How funny! That must have been a scene. This is a whole new experience for me because as I said before, never had a dog was into ice. Now I can't go to the freezer without her. LOL

When it is in the warmer months I will put ice i the dogs water bowl to make it cooler. Sometimes , when i have ice in my drink my dog will try to get it out , and I will toss it on the floor and she will just lick it till it melts . This dog even drinks coke

The funny thing about Zoey is that she's not interested in the drink itself. She doesn't often get into our drinks but when she does, she's going for the ice! She spills the rest of it. LOL...our last dog didn't hesitate for a drink. She would even try to drink my mom's coffee. She turned her nose up at ice, though!

Oh, Sable has always loved ice, it's a treat for her. We "drop" ice when we get ours and she always snatches it up right away.

Sometimes when we would try to get Sable in the house and she wasn't ready to come in, we'd run to the freezer and play with the ice cubes, she'd hear it and come running in thinking she was getting a treat!

I've had a lot of those "drops" too! If not, she will sit there and look at me while licking her lips. I apologize and open the freezer to get a cube out for her. Then off she goes!

Hello, Reesers! Hahaha, how funny! My dog is weird, he also likes ice. He don't eat it, he just licks it until it becomes water. But he's not obsessed for it. I guess our dogs are similar. Mine will eat anything. If YOU are eating, then he wants to eat too. Except for regular food, like rice and beans. You can't eat any kind of groceries, because he is always there asking for a little bit. Respectfully, Munhomib.

Hello Munhomib! Zoey has been pretty good about not getting in our food. If it drops on the floor, that's a different story. But leave a carton or something where she can get it and she'll be off with it. The other day was the first time she got brave and took a tiny piece of bread off my plate.

good day.. My dog loves ice too specially during summer. She literally picks them up at the bowl and munch it. She also likes ice cream and soda.

I would hate to see Zoey after a few sips of coke. She burps enough as it is! LOL

yes, when I go to the icemaker to fill up my cup he stands there barking so I give him a piece and he takes it to the living room and begins playing and chewing on it. He loves it.

Must be something about the living room. She's always takes it in there and then if I forget, I wonder why the carpet is wet. LOL

I've had dogs that liked ice and some who didn't. My dog Martha apparently hates it; if I put cubes in her water dish she will pick them all out and leave them on the floor.

Our last dog was like that. I would put cubes in her water thinking it would be nice and refreshing to have ice water on a hot day. She would look at the bowl and then at me with a look as if to say, "What is this?" She would leave it until it was all melted.

No, I tried to give my puppies some ice the other day because it was so hot and we were out in the car longer than expected, but they would not take it, not even lick it or anything, and I was thinking that if they would at least lick at the ice they would cool off some., my husband said it's not good for pets to eat ice though he said it could give them collic, I am not sure if it will or not, not on puppies and dogs, if it does not seem to bother your puppy I would not worry about it at all. Anyway, sounds like your dog just wants to copy you and has found that at least one thing you like she likes too,.

Pebbles, our last dog, was the same way. She wouldn't touch her water if there was ice in it so we stopped doing it. But the funny thing is my parents lived in Alaska for two years. She had no problems jumping in the snow!

My dog likes ice. I have him get it anytime it falls on the floor lol.. and sometimes i'll give him one when we come back from a really long walk and hes super hot. He loves that as it helps cool him off i'm sure. I'll sometimes freeze him things in water like a frozen treat and then give it to him outside. It is one big ice cube filled with treats and food.

LOL...I do the same thing. If she's not already standing there and waiting, I'll call for her to come get it. Yesterday she got confused because two cubes fell to the floor. She wasn't sure which one to go after first. I can't remember where I saw it but awhile back I saw something about a frozen treat for dogs. At the time I thought are you kidding? Now I understand where they're coming from! I haven't tried that yet with Zoey.

one of my dogs loves ice. She will go crazy with a huge pile of ice. So when we empty our ice chest she is always sure to be there.

Yeah, they do. What is it about dogs and ice? It's so hilarious watching them try to pick up a cube from off the floor. This one time our dog had chased the ice around the house with her nose, lol. The sound is really funny too when they crunch, lol.

I bet that's funny to watch! Zoey hasn't ever done that. She just grabs it and runs into the next room to get down to the business of crunching. And here we've been spending money on treats when they love something that doesn't cost anything. LOL

All my dogs I have had have liked ice cubes. They like first of all to chase it around the kitchen floor playing with it for awhile before they finally eat it.

I figured Zoey would be the same way but she gets right down to business. Give her a tennis ball and she'll slide all over the floor chasing it. Give her ice and she's got a firm grip on it. LOL

I've been doing that with Zoey. Anytime I have ice water left over, I'll dump it in her bowl. She immediately grabs the ice and runs. The other day there was big a chunk and I didn't think she'd be able to get it. Somehow she did! This is her first summer with us and she's had lots of ice. Plus she has discovered the water hose. LOL

Our dog, Shadow, is no longer with us and we miss here so much but she was a bit of a nut job for ice. She loved ice. I don't think this is an isolated thing though. When ever I go to friends homes and we have drinks the dogs are always there waiting for an ice cube. My son has a Pitbull, Honey, and she is a beautiful dog, even though when she first moved in with us I and my wife were a bit scared of her. But even a dog that could tear your head off will do tricks for an ice cube. :)

Awwww...how sweet! I know people have a bad perception of pitbulls so it's nice to hear things like this, that they do have a soft spot. I'm so sorry to hear about Shadow. We lost Pebbles last year so I can imagine how you must feel. They're just like family.

My current pup would rather play with ice than eat it. My last dog loved crunching on an ice cube. I would add ice to his water to keep it cool during the summer and he would pick out a cube and start crunhing away. It was funny to watch him take out a cube, it was like watching an apple bob. He didn't like the water in his nose, and would sniff it out after bobbing for an ice cube.

Yes, they do love ice. In summer fill his bowl with ice cubes or better still place a conveniently sized block of ice in his water bowl. He will love to lick that instead of drinking plain water. For more tips on dog care visit http://www.dogcarereviews.com

Yes, our dog did love ice. He was such a little spoiled baby though that he wanted me to hold the piece of ice in my hand and he would sit in my lap and lick on the ice. He was a sweet little spoiled baby though. He passed away about two months ago and I still miss him so much. I wish I could still hold him and let him eat ice from my hand.
