When will I ever learn my lesson?

My bangs (fringe) was getting really long. I couldn't see! I called my salon girl. She was totally booked. A friend at work suggested I go to her girl. I said she was probably booked too. She called and got me an appointment after work. I told the girl explicitly that I was trying to grow my hair long and to please just trim the layers and shorten the bangs. She totally did her own thing! She cut off 2 inches and got rid of all the layers! She didn't even leave it long enough for a ponytail. I cried all the way home. And of course, my husband didn't understand. That made me cry more. When will I learn to only go to my girl faithfully? I must go write a thousand times, "I will only go see Shannon for a haircut forever and always."

I know exactly how you feel. I was just starting in Real Estate and I wanted a more professional look, my hair was fairly long and straight. So I went to a salon I had gone to before, but the woman I used was not there, so I went with someone else. I showed her a picture and said this style but an inch or two longer. Well she went SO short I could barely make a tiny pony tail. I was so mad I could not even cry. I wanted to buy a wig because no matter what I did with it , I looked awful. I bought a clip on ponytails and wore them for about 3 months. Even then it did not look good, and was still not long enough to cut or trim, but I did not want to hide my head in bag at least. I then found someone I really liked but the last few times he said I am bored and did a few things I did not like. So I went back to someone in the same salon I had used a few times when he was out and explained the situation to her. She did exactly as I told her, not the other way around. If I wanted him to get creative, I would have asked him to. I am the one paying the bill! My husband hated the first cut so at least he for a change undestood .Later on he said I was too fussy. I feel if I have a hard time doing it after I get home, then the cut is bad. I wanted to be a hairdresser when I was young and practiced on my dolls, permed and set my grandmother's hair all the time when I was a teen. I used to cut my own hair and bangs ( and still do my own bangs better than any salon) when it was very long. But I can not do layers on myself. I also color my own hair.

The thing is, I told her that I don't do fussy stuff with it. I wash it the night before and just brush it in the morning. I stressed wash and wear. She did some fussy razoring at the bottom that requires a round brush and hair spray to look good. I guess I am going to look like crap until it grows enough for my real stylist to fix it.

I have been using the same person for 15 years. She is also my friend and she listens. She is quite adamant with people that she will only do as they ask. I have had my hair butchered by idiots and for a long time did my own hair, until I started using my friend. I was her first customer when she was in beauty school, too. I refuse to pay if I am not happy. I learned that the hard way, too. Barbietre did my hair sometimes, when I was little (she's my sister) and was good at it, too!

It is so sad when they do not listen. And as for razoring, I feel that does nasty things to your hair. I have layers and use a ionoc dryer/curler, so one appliance does everything. I do use mousse and a smmothing conditioner before I dry it. But it only takes 10-15 minutes that way. If I wanted bigger, I use hot curlers. Do they really think we have that much time to fuss?

Some lessons need to be learned the hard way. I have done that and realized that it is better to be patient, for good things come to those who wait- and to those who remember to schedule in advance! Take heart, your hair will grow back and then you can go to Shannon and she will make it all better. Hairdressers are like men- when you find a good one, don't let her go!

hi trace isnt it the pitts when you go to someone new'and tell them just how you want your hair, and they do everything but what you told them. I just hate that and I have had it happen to me too. my hair was so much shorter than I had wanted, and to add insult to injury she has actually cut one side shorter than the other. I will never again go to anybody but my regular girl. she knows how I like my hair and never fails to do a great job. Men just do not understand these things at all. lol

My friends at work tried to make me feel better. They told me it made me look younger. One of them told me I had the same hair cut as her daughter. Her daughter is 2! At least she made me laugh. Also, they reminded me that I could put the top up in a small pony tail and leave the back down. And that it was summer and it would be much cooler with less hair!

I had experienced things like that when I go to the salon. I give the lady instructions of what I would want my hair to be. Then she reasoned out that it is not good and she wants to do her way. I am upset because she keep on murmuring that what I want is not good for me. It is so upsetting. why these people can not understand that customer is always right? what ever is the customer's order they should do it. They should not do their own way. I never come back to that salon anymore and I told everyone I know who use to go there that, those people are not treating their customers right.

Yes, I will have to tell my friend that the girl she recommended didn't listen to me or do what I wanted and cut off way more than I authorized! I think it looks truly awful and am out of tears or I would sti

What happened? It didn't let me finish my sentence! I was saying that it is good that I am out of tears or I would still be crying.

Man, I hope you said something to this girl because that's just not cool what she did. I would have been so upset. Hair cutting is a very tight rope to walk, once it's gone IT'S GONE for a few months... I would definitely have words with that girl if I were you...

I just couldn't. I was so close to tears. I think she could see it too. She didn't give me her card or tell me her days.

I hear ya Trace, on the subject of hairdressers. Oh yeah. Learned my lesson there. A long time ago. Mine just doesn't get done if my girl at my favorite salon is not available. Had a really hard time finding a good one when we moved to a different city. Seems if you are not a 'regular' you are low priority and they don't really want to listen to you. Oh yeah and hubbies just don't get it at all. They are totally useless when it comes to a woman's hair. So sorry that happened to you, Trace and hope it grows back soon for you, although I know it is never soon enough...

I know what you mean. I always deal with the very samw thing. I have not met anyone who can cut my hair though. It is awful. I hate the way they cut my hair. they always do their own thing with it, no matter what I say. I hate feeling obligated to tip them afterwards also.

I do not understand why so many women take this abuse. Why don't you just get a robocut and do your own? You'll save a fortune, get the exact look you want, and not have to be at someone else's mercy.

If you dont watch those haircutters faithfully they will always cut your hair too short. I dont know if they want less hair to deal with or what, but I get tired of it. Yesterday I went to one and she charged me 3.00 for thinning her hair. She did not mention there was a charge for this. There isnt anywhere else. I did not give her a tip. I figured that's where the 3.00 went.

It is stories like your that serve to put me off going to hairdressers! I had not been for 9 years and a couple of weeks ago I took the plunge and went in for a trim. The girl that did it was perfect and did exactly what I wanted. I now want it styling into a shape and so I am hoping to go in either next week or the week after. I am going to have the same girl but I am just hoping she gets it right the next time!

I will cross my fingers for you Gemini Rose! If you can, take a few pictures of what you like and ask her what will work best for you. You can tell her what you like about each picture and create your own perfect style! Good Luck!

I've SO been there. Just don't go back. And take a really good video or picture of your self, maybe several pictures from different angles to remind yourself of this horrible mistake. Then start setting a once a month appointment with your salon girl. I feel for you. I know the issues that can bring. Husbands (males) just don't get it, unless you relate it to them. Tell your husband how would he feel if he took your car in for an oil change and the guy did his own thing to the car and then wracked up a major bill to him for ALL the work done, when you'd only needed an oil change. Watch your husband's blood boil. LOL And that was just an analogy!

I must say! I'm just as bad... However, MY problem is that I can't ever decide what I should do with my hair as it is. I'm horrible at fashion... true story! Sometimes I shoulda been born a boy or bald and wore wigs! I would have trimmed my own bangs until I could get in to see Shannon... well, Maria in my case... I haven't been to see Maria in WHO knows how long... I need a cut & dye DESPERATELY! The reason I love Maria so much is I tell her to do what she wants and I leave looking Fran~tastic! and I can mimic it too... but, it's usually close to the same thing... sometimes I just want a change... KWIM????

So you need to start collecting pictures of what you like and talk to Maria about them and find a new Fran-tastic style that is all your own! I tried something different with my bad haircut yesterday and ended up looking ok. I flat-ironed it so that both sides curved under a bit. It was a lot of work though and not something I want to do at 6 in the morning!

yea, I see your point Trace, however... pictures that I like don't exactly look right on me... apparently, I'm stuck with the dreaded layered look for the rest of my life... its because of my WONDERFUL hair texture *frizz-galore* and I dont want to spend more time on my hair then it takes for me to shower, dress, & get the girls ready... know what I mean?

I do know what you mean. I am totally a wash and wear girl. I take a shower at night and let my hair airdry. When I get up in the morning, I may give it a spritz of detangler to refresh it, a spritz of shine spray and go to work.
