Look at this story I just came across in my online paper!
http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article1379568.ece?#EMC-Bltn
Now this paper has been known to tell a lie or two in it's lifetime, but if this story is true then I am amazed! A woman giving birth to twins at 70, she nearly died giving birth as well, I am just amazed!
I ask you would you do this, have kids at 70? And twins at that?
What are your thoughts and opinions on this?

Well it is possible with hormone replacement and IVF treatment. Those poor little twins are tiny and look very frail. I hope they will survive.
This couple have already had girl children, but they still wanted a boy. Why could they not accept that they were never meant to have a boy child by natural means. They think they have been rewarded by God but why did they not think that God had already given them beautiful daughters and that should have been enough. It was the expensive treatment that gave them these twins, nothing to do with God or Nature.

For some reason they felt that they had to have a son and heir, I just hope that the rest of their family are willing to take care of the little babies when the parents pass over.

WEll I have learnt with bitter experience the lies and neglectful reporting that this pare prints and I am not sure whether this story is true or not! If it is , it is not my place to judge but I would not do the same myself that is for sure! I could not do that to my child - I mean how long would these parents be able to look after their children , who according to the report (if it is true) are both in their 70s and frail?
I think IVF is a wonderful thing for people who have problems conceiving or suchlike but I fear that people who have money can defy nature in a way that is not so good - for them or the child! xxx

I think some of the advancements are great but even those are used unethically! I am not against helping people have babies as such - I can't be I had to have fertility treatment to have mine but I do think there should be lines drawn, and I do get where you are coming from! xxx

Why is the world tipping on its A** because of this, I hate to sound negative and against things, but I was always taught that nature did things for a reason. LIKE, there is a reason women go through the menopause to stop them having children after a certain age. It is all about balance, natures balance is being upset. A lot of things that happen today, should not whether we like it or not.

I was hunting around if there were any other stories about this, since The Sun, which is the link you provided isn't always trustworthy, but yikes the BBC news has this article as well, including a video!
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/7491782.stm
We're getting to hear of more and more women giving birth at an extremely older age..late 50s, 60s..but yikes to have a baby in one's 70s???? That's a bit much...Like gee, how much longer is the woman going to live anyway....by the time the kid is 20 she'll be in her 90s if she lives that long

Well done, and thanx for the research! I know the sun can be a bit dodgy but it does make me laugh! IF I live to be 70, the last thing I want is to be giving birth, no thanx I want to be sunning up somewhere nice!

Even before coming to this topic, i found the news article and i read the same. I thought of starting a topic, in this .. but left for office.. and now i am happy to see that my friend gemini has noted it and has shared it with the people here.
And,i have heard.. earlier.. even in my state.. a old woman aged 65 years gave birth to a healthy child..
Even the doctors are wondering, how it is possible when she has attained menopause long long ago.
So, going by this, i believe that this may also be true.

Ahhh you are a sweetie! It is bizarre to think of having a child at such an age, I just do not think that I could!

I think that's wrong and selfish. Who is going to raise those children? She is not going to live to see them graduate high school, and if she does she will be so far gone she won't even realize she's there.
I was raised by a woman already in her 40's when I was born, so I feel as if I can relate to what those twins will go through. In my teen years my mom was in bed by 8pm and up at 5am, rather the opposite of what a teenager wants to do. She also napped frequently and required complete silence in the house.
She passed a bit over a year ago, and never got to meet my youngest child, which is really sad for me. My children are all very young, so they really won't remember her either.

I think it is selfish, all they have thought about is getting an heir and not what this is going to mean for those babies long term.
I was OK my Mum is only 20 years older than me and I am 18 years older than my first child. I feel a bit sad that I am over 30 years older than my daughter, I wish that she had come along sooner, but hopefully it will not make much difference to our relationship. I dont act my age much anyway so we should be OK!

30 years isn't that big of a deal, 40 isn't even really that bad. But when you get up into the 50's and more, that's just too old to be having kids.

Personally, I know I wouldn't have coped with having a baby after about 40. At for 70 - I wonder whether this woman has considered that these children probably won't have her around for as long as they'd like! When you're in your 20s and 30s you have energy and enthusiasm - and the ability to concentrate on children. I find now that I'm 50 I'm a bit vague and forgetful - and wouldn't want to be in charge of a baby for any length of time! Maybe the story isn't true. For the children's sake, I rather hope not.

Me neither, I had my last baby at 33 and that was more than enough for me!

well, with the advance in medical technology, i don't see why it is not possible... i had heard many stories about old woman giving birth to a baby... but not as old as 70 years... i can't say whether it is true or not and i don't dare to judge as i don't know the fact... take care and have a nice day...

if it was true it would be all over the news in other newspapers, on tv etc, so I would say its tabloid garbage.

Wow, in real life and with real people I have known, I never encounter story like this! But, this is amazing..Imagine at that age, most women will have their menopause at 40-50 years old! Maybe this woman is a late bloomer..Anyway, i will not choose to have anymore babies at that age no matter how strong I will be!

Logically and scientifically speaking, it can't be true. well, because women will go through menopause at around 50+ and after that they stop menstruating which means they lose their child birth ability.
Unless her body is still that of a fertile young girl, I do not think it's possible.

Have kids at 70 and be 90 when they were just needing to borrow my car, I think not.. I don't know why someone would do that, in all probability, she will not live to raise them to adulthood.. 72 and going throught the terrible 2's, nope.. 76 and starting them in grade school, you have such a nice grandma, nope.. 88 when they graduate from high school, nope.. I know for a fact that I would not be a part of this type of insanity.... nope, no way, no how, no, no, no

If that is true then thats is amazing. The bible does talk about how women in there 100's had given birth to children. My opinion is if she did have them then more power to her. But, in a way I kind of feel bad for the twin though because with a mother at the age of 70 she cant do what other parents do because of the age. Also, with the age she maynot be alive to watch them graduate high school.

wow, 70 year old woman gave birth to twin. Really can't believe that, I will not pregnancy when I was older than 50 years old. Why the woman don't care about herself, at 70 years old to give birth to child. I will never do this. Why don't she just spending her last days happly and healthly. Even the child who has been give birth to, is not heathly as normally baby, oh, don't know what she is thinking about to have child at 70.
