Windows Vista has many cool features that XP does not have. One of the leading new features is the startup repair feature. When windows Vista starts booting if it detects an error it automatically goes into the startup repair mode. In this mode it will be able to recover from a corrupt registry, missing windows vista files, driver issues and can even do a hard drive repair and memory test. As a computer technician I can say that windows Vista can do 80% of what I can do on startup repair. This alone makes Vista attractive.
A few other great features are the search functions with in Vista right from the windows start menu. Another few others would be the Aero interface that lets shows a snap shot of the running programs as you tab between them. Another would be when browsing for programs it’s no longer all across the screen but in on a central location.
The four different versions of Vista are also an advantage because business can get a more advanced version for data backup and encryption while normal home users can get the basic and premium versions that will meet their needs.
Before you run out and purchase Vista here are some of the pros to XP.
Windows XP has been around for many years. Every new program still works with XP and most likely will for some time. You do not have to worry about any of your existing software not working because you are keeping the same operating system.
Because Windows XP has been around the block most of the kinks have been worked out. The operating system as a whole is very stable. People are creatures of habit so not having to learn your way around a new operating system is also a plus.
Many companies have proprietary software. Because of this some of those programs will not be compatible with windows Vista. Before getting Vista be sure and ask the software manufacturer you use if you need any updates or if their software supports Windows Vista.

you said the right thing that you like win xp more than vista just becoz you are familiar with xp... but vista is both functionally and with its GUI is better and have to be as its the latest version ... windows xp is easy to handle because we are familiar ... but when you use vista and gets familiar with it you will love it and when you see win xp you will definitly say " Generation next...no way switching back to you"( ofcourse u need to be update with the requirements)...he he

I'm not sure. I've had this computer for a few months only since my b/f bought him a laptop. I've never tried the vista thing. is it better? My b/f seems to like vista.

well ashly..it's better if we will just learn to love it and if we will explore the page and play with the vista feature..I guess we also have the same feelings before they had windows xp.but there's always room for learning.we'll just have to explore the vista features.

Windows Vista is more sofisticated but windows xp is much faster than windows vista and to install windows vista in your compupter you need a good RAM and a Video card that support it

I've been using Windows Vista for almost a year now, since I bought my new computer. At first I was not that crazy about it, but now I really like it. My husband is still using XP, and never ever ever ever wants to change to Vista. He's in the market for a new computer, but still has his old hard drive that he's going to use as a boot drive, so he can still use his XP.

Windows Vista requires a hyper fast computer to really perform well. Windows XP performs well with the average PC that is found on the ground in America. I will say, as I have one of the 'average Joe Sixpack' computers, Windows XP is best.

I do have a Windows XP Home/Linux Dapper Drake double operating system for security's sake. Windows is notorious for being friendly for crap-ware and Viruses.

Maybe by the time we're all forced to upgrade the operating system, the bugs will be worked out of Vista. Vista is now in the public, and there are a lot of freeware programs being developed for it. I noticed that XP really improved once freeware programmers got their hands on the OS and started designing programs to augment it.

If Vista doesn't improve, Linux is becoming usable fast so will take a big bite out of Vista's user base.

Windows Vista is the upgradable of Windows Xp and i believed that all feature in Xp was in Vista plus the additional coolest feature and several time saver. i didnt say that i am after the cool factor, i depend in what the OS can do for your satisfaction. I believed that some application/program always discover a higher spectation and needed the updated OS,...

I loaded XP on my laptop that was running Windows 98, and it worked, but with Vista taking 1 GB of ram just to run, and a ton of hard drive space, I didn't load vista, and now reading these reviews, I'm glad I didn't.

Which is better? Of course the newest is the better. Windows Vista has its outstanding feature, the aero graphics. Besides, it is more reliable.

I prefer windows xp too, I find windows vista rather cumbersome to use and it has way to much flashy stuff that's not needed. It sucks so much speed out of my computer (if you know what I mean. Sadly microsoft will not be supporting windows xp soon. Well anyway, it's time for me to move on to getting a MacBook! :)

But if you'll look at vista features and icons they are all beautiful...honestly speaking if a customer of mine asked for assistance regarding their internet connections and they have vista os..I will turn my audio in mute and sigh...bec. I am sure I'll be dealing with a complicated OS.Probably bec. we have limited training only in vista.but if we could only have a training for vista..I'll be of more help here. ;p

I perfer Xp since most of the program thats already on my pc are not even compatable with vista. Also my older brother who just recently bought a new pc which came with Vista already installed into it, downgraded it back to Xp. He also said it suck, lol but thats my opinion others probably think differnt.
