When I look at old Black & White films, I am sometimes surprised to see that I find some actress from the past attractive, even though the film is old and styles have changed. I always ask myself, what would she have looked like if I was alive then and how good looking were they without all those lights and makeup. I suppose that competition was intense back in the 1930s and 1940s and that only the most exceptionally talented or beautiful people got through. So my question is - Which female stars from the past do people still find attractive?

I think the stars back in the golden era were much more attractive and just more glamourous. One of the stars I think that was very attractive was Jane Russell. It wasn't just her looks which may not have been considered conventional, but just the way she carried herself in her movies. Also what do people think of Vivien Leigh? Her pivotal role in mind, Scarlette

Hi bloomette1983. Now we are getting somewhere - Jane Russell and Vivien Leigh. The woman the richest man in the world was mad about and the face that the world was looking for to star in the biggest film ever made. I agree that Jane Russell carried herself well and not only in her movies, but in her life as well. Vivien Leigh was so beautiful, but sadly had many personal problems. ... and both had black hair. Interesting!

You mentioned it. Nothing against newer female stars, the previous generations were indeed more attractive, for me, than those who are on the verge of their careers as we speak. So far, the I really find Judy Garland real beautiful. Of course, maybe it's because of the Wizard of Oz. But I've seen a short biography on her and I find her fantastic. As for newer generations, I find Nicole Kidman to be beautiful. I find her sophisticated and dashing. As for locals, Vilma back in Darna days, 1970s. she was stunning during her early years. Today, there are a lot of variety when it comes to looks.

Hi, yes Judy looked nice in the Wizard of Oz, but she looks really bad in pictures of her later in her life. Really sad! Nicole Kidman is absolutely beautiful and I think she would have a chance to fit in with the stars of the 1950s and other eras. Besides she starred in "Moulin Rouge" which showed that she could do a song and dance number as well! Well done! Good choice!

You are right in your observation! The female stars and in fact even the male stars before are far more attractive and good looking than today's. Look at Marilyn Monre, look at Elizabeth Taylor... they were sooo beautiful during their days... and a lot more so many to mention here. Our local stars here of yesterdays who are far more beautiful than today's breed are Paraluman, Gloria Romero, Amalia Fuentes, Tessie Quintana and a lot more.

Hi Salonga, Yes Marilyn Monroe is incredibly beautiful, with or without makeup. I cannot think of anybody, who looks remotely like her. She radiates warmth, but sadly she was very insecure. I prefer Elizabeth Taylor when she was younger. I though she was prettier then.
