A Challenge to all myLot Friends

United States
July 7, 2008 6:16am CST
Today's challenge, if you choose to accept it, is to go "Discussions with no responses", find a discussion that is more than 24 hours old, and from a relative newbie (less than 100) and respond. If we can do this at least once a day, we will help the newbies feel like it is not a waste of time being out here. We will also possibly make new friends. I am going to try and do this everytime I log on. Care to join me in my challenge?

Well, I have been doing that for a short while back when I was still a newbie acctually. And it does help in getting to be familar with the forum here as well. Well, keep up the good work then. I will try to do the challenge when I can after I clear my inbox of all the alerts from friends from mylot. I will be more than happy to make a newbie welcome. It is what mylot is for anyways. Making friends and becoming friends. That is when discussions can really occur, among friends. Cos when you know someone better, there will be more common topics to share and talk about. I have added you as a friend so that your new posts will be notified and I can go post something whenever I can. All the best in your challenge!

take all the time you need. It is never too late to respond to a post or a thread here at mylot! That is what I love about this site! And with the incentive to earn a few cents per post, the high chance of someone replying to your posts or replies is so much higher! Love this place cos there is more interaction going on between members.

Thanks for the friend's request. My email is full of all kinds of mylot email, also. I have been trying to get it down responding and then deleting the message. I am slowly getting it down. Thanks for the response.

Are you saying that people don't respond to newbies just because they are newbies? I have gone into "Discussions with no Responses" before, but I didn't know they were not responded to because they were newbies. I had actually looked at a few and the reason I did not respond to them had nothing to do with them being newbies. It was because they weren't interesting to me or they weren't something I knew about or could add to. I have responded to only a very few. Why would people shun newbies? We were all newbies once. I will make it a point to seek out newbies' discussions and try to make some kind of response no matter what the interest is.

I think a lot of newbies might not have a lot of friends, since they are relative new to the site. I don't think they don't get a response because they are newbies, I think it is just because they haven't had a lot of exposure on myLot. I know I have it set that I get notified when my friends start a discussion. I don't know if there is a notification to let you know when there is a new discussion started. My email would be so bogged down because I have a lot of interests out here. So for me, I need to go and personally look for discussions that no one has responded too. I only respond to ones that I have something intelligent to say. I don't think people shun newbies on purpose. Like I said, if I was notified of every discussion for everyone of my interests, I would need a seperate email just for that. LOL Thanks for the response.

I think it is a good idea and challenge, so I will try to carry it out myself too. I think when you respond to somebody you are are thinking mainly about yourself and your interests, but by looking for newbies your trying to do something for our somebody else for a change. Good idea!

When I thought about it was merely in helping someone out. But you are right there are people out here that probably think of only themselves. I can't see responding to a conversation that I have no interest in just to increase my numbers. Thanks for the response.

Its a very good idea. At least the newbie felt that she is being appreciated and be encouraged to be more active here. They are the new generations of mylot community. with this kind of incentive mylot will have a longer life span as many of the senior mylot members have left.

I like how you presented it, if we want myLot to continue we need to continue doing this so newbies won't be discouraged. Thanks for the response!

Brilliant idea. I always response to post who had zero responses. Maybe because it's hard to think of a topic to post and no one is responding. It's like working hard and gain nothing. This is one thing to help the bewbie. To be inspired and more zest to join discussions. Count me in.

Thanks for joining in. I know sometimes I can't think of anything to talk about, hard to imagine, LOL. I just imagine how a newbie feels.

I respond to the newbie posts as well as the discussions with no responses everytime I come on. I also go and rate others posts and try to help the newbies with questions and help them to understand how mylot works.

Good for you!!! I just answered 5 no response discussions. I have been trying to do 5 each day. If I am rushed for time, I will start at the beginning and look for discussions from members that have a number lower than 100. If I have more time, I will scroll through and find discussions that are older than 24 hours. Thanks!

You are right but I know a lot of people respond only to discussions that have a lot of discussions with it. There are so many more discussions that no one sees because there are no responses. Thanks for the response.

I already do this. I go to the new post and new people as well as the ones that have no replies. I think it will make them feel more comfortable if people reply to things they have posted and to welcome them here.

that sounds good, and coming up with little games makes things a bit interesting here. I know I've been doing this already with the postings but I will take you up on the next challenge if I can.

That's great that you are already doing it! I didn't do any yesterday but am going to try and get some done today. I also have been trying to be the first one to post a response. That's kind of fun to watch also!!!!

This is a good gesture, I have already been doing it since I joined last year! I just sort of felt like making them feel important, so I would go and answer as many "no response discussions as I could"! But 50% of the discussions on there are not answered because they ask very unintellingent questions! But it is a good way to start a communicative relationship, which this is all about! So I'm going to go answer some more right now!!!!

I have noticed that some of the questions, I have no interest in so I just skip over them. I guess I could use Pose's suggestion and just welcome them to myLot. Thanks for the response!!!!

Hi kimbers, I accept your challenge, in fact I often go to new discussions to welcome newcomers to the site. I haven't been doing it everyday however, but I will now make that effort. I think what you're asking is a very good idea, and I hope a lot of people accept the challenge. Blessings.

Hi kimbers867. This sounds like a wonderful idea. I will try it. Plus, I have a few of my own discussions with 0 responses, I think, which might pop up for people. I assume there is an easy way to find the discussions with no responses. I will check under the "discussions" tab at myLot. Thanks.

Great thanks Pearl! Did you find the discussions with zero responses? It is under the discussion tab. I will go look at your discussions to see if I can respond to any.

Hey kimbers867. Thanks for telling me how to find the discussions with no responses. I just responded to 2 of them. And, you are a peach for responding to one of mine that didn't have any responses. Thanks for doing that. I'm going to try to do this everyday. I think you had a great idea!

I'm not really a newbie because I've had my account for months. However, I don't have time to get on much. I also feel I have interesting discussions, but other people don't seem to think so. I will take on your challenge though, and if you don't mind, maybe you could add a response to a discussion or two of mine.

That's how I was for a while, but I got serious back in the winter. I do miss the days that I can't be out here. I will go and look at some of your discussions as soon as I send this. Thanks for taking the challenge.

I know the feeling of being a newbie and not getting responses, so this is a fabulas idea. hardest part about this challenge is to find one that is more then 24 hours old. Well, wish me luck I am off to respond to a newbie discussion.

Unwind fiveone911 (3) 52 minutes ago if and when i have a problem,i just simply go to the beach or seashore just to unwind. because for me the beach is a peaceful place and a perfect place to unwind and wash up your problems. and i always relate it to the story of the "Foot Prints in the sand" where in terms of problems and struggles GOD carry us along... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is the one that I found and enjoyed posting to.. I do know that it was only 52 minutes ago and may have received many posts later in the day but it caught my eye and I had to respond.. I think that this is a really good idea and we should all do this a couple of times a day.. It will give everyone a chance, since it is impossible to find everyone on Mylot.. Have a great day and thanks for the great idea..

Yeah, I have run out of ideas for today why not. It is a great idea maybe this would have helped to keep my referral if I would have done this more often.

Oh I hear you. I have five referrals, and when they signed up I offered to help them out and haven't heard squat from them. I would have loved to mentor them through here. Oh well, they could always pop up here. I know I was a little discouraged at first and didn't come back for about 6 months, maybe they will do the same thing. Thanks for the response.
