Licorice - There is more than just red and black!

When you say licorice to the average person, they think of red or black licorice. I have loved licorice since I was a little girl. My grandmother used to buy us Switzers black licorice. When we were young, we used to go to Knott's Berry Farm (California) and go to the General Store. There we bought licorice for a penny a stick. We usually were given a dollar or two and bought 100-200 pieces of licorice. They had the following kinds of licorice: Black, 2 kinds of red, one was strawberry, I am not sure of the other, green licorice -- like a spearmint flavor, chocolate licorice, grape licorice, licorice pipes, licorice ropes, etc. Nowadays, they have even more funky flavors. I just bought a package of Twizzlers "cinnamon" fire licorice. It taste like the old cinnamon sticks (hard candy). You have to get used to it and have a bottle of water handy to "put out the fire" but it actually grows on you. I miss those good old days. Moral is: Don't limit yourself to just red or black licorice. There is lots of new stuff out there including sour licorice.

I've tried some of those funky flavors, but I still like red and black. I like chocolate twizzlers as well as these mixed fruit flavors.

Thanks Marcola and everyone else who posted to this interesting discussion. It is amazing that there are so many new flavors out there. It is also interesting that some people who like the grape fruit or cherry fruit do not like that flavor in licorice. Also, some like Twizzlers and some do not. I personally do not like the "sour" type of licorice. I do wish they made licorice in the "sweet" type that some of the sour flavors have. I know one thing, I am going to the store today to get some. This discussing has made me hungry for licorice!

Licorice - Many kinds
I really like red licorice. Have never really like black though. I don't care for the taste very well.

the only one I ever really liked was strawberry but the sour apple was okay too. I never liked black, chocolate, or mint. I like cinnamon flavor but have never tried cinnamon Twizzlers.

I didn't know that. I've only seen the red and black ones throughout my entire existence. And I always preferred the red. I would love to try the strawberry one. And the green one sounds like it might be good. I'll have to check online to see where I can find some.

I don't really like licorice. It gets caught in my teeth. I only REALLY like the green sour ones...

my hubby just had the opportunity to try green licorice and it was apple flavoured. we got it at our local bulk food store (well actually, my mom bought it for him) as we were going on a long road trip and he really enjoyed it.

Licorice Colors! - Hey! Look at what I found!! lol
I didn't know that they come in different flavors now!! When did this happen? I guess it shows that I don't shop very often. lol I hate to shop momiecat. I hate it with such a passion but my husband doesn't mind it one bit so he does the majority of it now. Anyway, out of the red and black, I love the red and hate the black. Even with jelly beans, I like the colors but hated the black and saved all black jelly beans and licorice for my dad for he loves them. To me they taste something like tar... not that I've ever tasted tar before but.... yuck!! LOL

I have seen peach, watermelon, green apple, grape, strawberry, cherry, pina colada, chocolate, and those are just the ones I remember. There is a brand that I have seen around here. It is called Amish Wedding brand. I have tried the peach and they are pretty good.

I have seen several different kinds of liquorice also. I have seen blue raspberry and green apple, orange and other kinds.I think my favorite will always been the black though. I love the taste. I dont eat liquorice too much anymore though. for all the calories in it, I think I would rather have chocololate or caramel something.
