Hi there twowizdom. There are a wide variety of laptops available.
It really depends on what you are going to use it for.
I guess you are not going to use it for gaming as laptop generally arnt as good as desktop pc's for gaming.
First of all you need to consider the performance of a laptop.
The performance of a laptop depends on what components it has
PROCESSOR (Also known as CPU) - you should get either a dual core processor or a quad core processor. These are the latest technology, dual core is cheaper than quadcore but quad core is better.
Memory (RAM) - I would say you need at least 2GB of ram for it to be good performance. Anything higher is better.
Hard drive space - 150GB or more, to give you an idea, I have 180GB Hard drive and i have never filled it.
Also the size of the laptop and the weight of it, depends what you are doing with it.
Screen size - entirely up to you, depends what you want a laptop for.
It all really depends on your budget.
The best laptop on the market would be really really expensive.
I would stick to the specifications i have stated, just look around in local computer shops and look on a few websites to find the best deal.
Hope this helps

All depends on your needs...if you need high storage for videos, music, downloads you must check it to have very big hard drives. If you want to play demanding games, then your ram, cpu, grafics card must be of high levels, that means the laptop itself will be very expensive. If you work on office suits, any laptop will do. You must study a bit what each hardware part inside a computer helps with, so you will know for sure to which u must focus for your specific needs.

I would make sure it is as if you were looking for a desktop all to good things that are in it. You could look at some sites that have rated laptops like cnet and subscribe to their news letter.

it really depends what you are looking for and what you budget is
if you are using it for gaming, laptop may not be the best choice
but since you asked for a laptop
- hard drive. look for atleast 150gb. ive got 581 gb and used near 200gb
- processor. try to get a duo core with atleast 1.8ghz
- ram. if you are going to be running vista i recommend 2gb. vista eats ram.
i do not know your budget so i can not state that much. sorry. and please can you state what you are going to use it for. thankyou:D
