I personally don't. I can't fall asleep as easily with the lights on.

Because it is normal.
You're used to it.
You've never been forced to sleep in total darkness.
It is just one of those things you have to be weaned off.
Try reducing the light levels gradually over time until the light is gone. If it freaks you out then try to find a compromise...
Alternatively you could try forcing yourself to jump in at the deep end. Just turn ALL the lights off, force yourself to lie down and distract yourself with thoughts of other things.
Perhaps try navigating in the dark. Just turn the lights off and walk about the room in the dark.... sit down in a chair or something and contemplate your surroundings. When you're acclimatised to it, try going to bed.
Oddly enough, I learnt to get over my fear of the dark thanks to power-cuts when I was a kid. I had to learn to get to sleep in the dark by force because the electricity supply cut off and all the lights went out on their own.

I'm having a hard time to sleep.Even if i drink a lot of milk or listen to soft songs that could easily make me sleep.I always sleep with lights turned off.I could'nt sleep when it's on.I have many things that i could think of when the lights are on.I felt like my eyes are open even if it's close. My daughter too don't like it open. She always get the pillow on top of her head like being scared just to get to sleep.

No i hate when the light is on actually but my son has to have the light on before he goes to sleep so we have a lamp with a very dim light in it for him so that he isn't in the dark... He's been like that sense birth we've always had some kind of light for him so when we check on him we aren't stubbing our toes on things..

No, I prefer to sleep in the darkness and I have taught my children to do that too. At bedtime I turn the light off and by the morning at this time of the year there is daylight. My baby son and I have just been to Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. In the summer these countries have long hours of daylight and I only saw darkness once whilst I was there. I used to go youth hosteling a lot when I first began traveling and so the light was quite often on when I wished to go to sleep. So I used eye shades and off I went to sleep.
