Rice, Pasta, or Potato......which would you give up?

When I cook for my sons, it is almost a given that potato is involved. Each week it would be unusual not to have a pasta dish for either Lunch or Dinner. And, when cooking just for myself, rice is always something I consider. Because we are creatures of habit, is it possible to never again eat one or all of these products? When you consider people become vegetarians and give up meat, surely it would not be difficult not eating chips or mashed potato ever again. Or deciding Fried Rice is over rated, plain rice is bland, and well, rice salad is not an option. Pasta? Well, I would never be able to go without ever eating spaghetti, or my pasta that has become a regular part of my menus.....or could I just give it up?

It would be extremely difficult for me to give any of those up. I guess if I had to choose I would pick rice. I would dearly miss fried rice and I enjoy making my own. Pasta and potatoes I just love too much. Potato would be the hardest thing for me to give up because I love fries, hashbrowns, and baked potatoes.

Certain foods are so tempting when dining out, as much as i like cooking, its so good having some else doing the work. It would be unusual to eat a chinese meal without rice, an Italian meal without pasta or traditional aussie fare without chips or mash. If you were to watch your diet then eating would pose a problem. I doubt eaten chinese without fried rice is legal, lol, going to a fast food diner without eating fries is not manners, and everyone with children under 10 sees a quick pasta dish as a blessing.

I'm Italian, so it'd be very hard to totally give up pasta. It's a great quickie meal. My mom makes delicious homemade pasta that I can't imagine never having again. In the past couple of years I've started using rice a lot also. I don't eat potatoes a lot but I'd hate to give up a veggie...still I guess I'd have to say potato.

i would give up rice before pasta or potatoes. don't really need any of them . one of my sons wants mashed potatoes w/macaroni & cheese. that's really adding the calories & he can afford them, i can't but if he comes to eat we have both.he's not spoiled. lol

kids are never spoilt, but they are good at getting their own way. my sons eat chips at least twice a week, and the 5yr old gets mash because at least he eats it. I love rice with stir-fry and spaghetti and meatballs is a favourite too. Maybe i could give up potato if the boys stopped tempting me with home made chips..

I pose the question...Is it possible to give one up? Seems i have one of these nearly every night, in some shape or form. I love fried rice, could never give it up. Potoato is awesome mashed, for chips, or roasted, never would i want to give it up. And i eat pasta weekly, it is something cheap, and simple. BUT.....if forced to choose, take away my pasta while i'm sleeping.

Definitely rice..I am not a big fan of rice at all!!!. I even like my take out Chinese food without the rice usually. The only time I really like rice is with some yummy homemade chili!!! Potatoes are a big keeper!!! You can do so many different things with potatoes and get so many different flavors.
