It is now 11pm here and I am really tired however I don't want to go to bed yet as it has taken me most of the night to get my baby to sleep. She only went to sleep at 10.30 at night. So now is my time out, I know I should go to sleep so I will be ready for the night when she wakes up for a feed, but I enjoy my time out. So I stay up usually till midnight to have an hour or two by myself.
So how about you do you often stay up late when you are tired and know you really should go to bed. What are your reasons for staying up late, is is the kids, or maybe you don't want to go to sleep as you know you have work tomorrow, or maybe you don't want to go to sleep as you find it hard to sleep?

Pretty much every night I do that. I really enjoy my "free and alone" time. I've always been that way, even before kids.
I know that I always have to wake up when my son is up, but for some reason I can never go to bed at a decent time, even if I'm super tired.
Some nights I can go to sleep fine, but most not. My life is one big stress ball-- and I like my wind down time, it's my thinking time and I need it.

Yeah, having alot of stress currently in my life. My son is in the hospital as of yesterday (I'm here with him) and hes a bit sick, but doing better today. We are having issues with finances, but I know that will be taken care of later this week.
Just stressful! I spend most of the day taking care of my son and dealing with our issues. At night, I like to forget about stuff and just have quiet.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that enjoys their time alone.

I know what you mean, totally understand. Had to laugh when you said your life is one big stress ball, I felt like I had a big stress ball of a day today and now finally I can relax. My bubs is not too much of a handful it is my 3 year old, she can be pretty tiring during the day. I hope you continue enjoying you alone time at night, cherish those moments and unwind for the day.

If I am really tired..I better opt for sleep .. Because when I am sleepy I am very sleepy..And can not do any thing except that..
No matter I didn't get any time for myself through out the day I'll go and get my sleep..!!
If am tired and not that sleepy.. I better make a coffee for me.. Because having some time out for yourself is also very important..!!
I feel very incomplete if I didn't get any time for my own self.

I can understand how busy you must be because of your three little kids..!!
Well am not a mother( only 19 yrs old) but I have handled kids .. And that day I came to know how hard it is to handle kids..!!
One shout in about every three seconds and one pees where ever he wants ..!!
And some are just such a sneak peeks that you need to lock your personal room to prevent things from getting damaged!!!
pheww...!!
Very exhausting I must say..!!
All the best with your kids !!!

You are wise sleeping when you are sleepy, atleast you will feel refreshed the next day. You are right you feel incomplete without time to yourself, I find it hard to find that time, with 3 kids.

Hi Kiran,
I haven't any kids so worry about that, only a husband who is worst the two kids, after I have ran around him done my house work, I then sit down with my computer untill very late. Thats the only time I have peace and quiet when he has gone to bed. I am on Mylot till 3.a.m. and when I do get to bed I go out like a light.
Love and be happy.

Hi Kiran,
I do this almost everyday. I know that I have to go to work really early, but I'm still awake at midnight and sometimes even later. I just can't sleep sometimes, but then when I lay down and get comfortable I fall right to sleep. I don't normally have any reason to be awake, nothing keeping me awake, I just don't want to sleep. LOL

oh yes... i had done that so many times... the reason is usually because i am in the middle of doing something and i just don't want to leave it... i want to finish it first before i sleep so that i can have a peace of mind... take care and have a nice day...

Hi lingli, seems like you are not alone there, alot of people here don't like going to sleep with tasks unfinished. I wonder why that is, it is not like we won't have plenty of tasks to do the next day, a woman's job is never done, lol.

I can never ever get asleep fast. Every night I go to bed with the question of how long will I be just lying there and staring at the ceiling and not thinking about anything. Sometimes I can't get asleep even for 3-4 hours so I just get up and go do something useful like answering discussions on mylot. So yes I do stay late even when I am tired.

Maybe you could try having a bath late at night to relax your mind, then you may sleep easier. I find sometimes Mylot makes my mind very alert and therefore hard to get to sleep late at night.

Not very often, but sometimes. Last Saturday, I rarely sleep as i'm watching Veronica Mars online. It's so interesting that i can't stop, although i'm very very tired. Most of them i stayed up because of interesting TV programmes, online chatting with friends and play games with friends. But it's not healthy to stay up too late and i've realized it, i'm trying my best not to sleep too late. Hope i will change the bad habit and enjoy life
Good luck

Thanks lynette, I am sure my sleeping habits will change as my kids get a little older. Just at the moment I enjoy my quiet time at night to catch up on Mylot and other things such as movies, hot cuppa. Good thing you get good sleep.

Oh what a mother can do for her child! I could picture you as you put your baby to sleep and how tenderly you kissed her goodnight. Oh yes, there are times that though you are tired you still would want to keep awake as you feel like you want some extra hours for your yourself which was deprived of you during the last hours that you were busy with your little angel and with other household matters. Very motherly... and I find it so natural for women who have little ones. I passed through those difficult, tiring but fulfilling moments of my life. Now, I am so happy that I could go to bed early as I have no more little one to put to bed and my son is old enough to take care of himself. But sometimes, when my hubby would stay in the office to finish important job, I would also stay awake to watch him till he came. I would want to assure that he came safe and sound and I would want that I'd be the one to open the gate for him and for us to spend some sweet moments of togetherness in the wee hour of the night. We would drink hot chocolates and eat some pastries and share some happy experiences of the day before we retire to bed.

Thanks Salonga, you are very sweet it is nice to know you picture me in such a positive and nurturing way, I am truly flattered. Forgot what going early to bed means, lol, can't remember the last time I went to bed before 11pm at night.
You sound like a very sweet devoted wife your husband is a lucky man. I can picture you drinking hot chocolates with your hubby chatting. Treasure those moments, you are very lucky the two of you share those special times together.

Recently I always go to bed at 11:30pm,and wake up at 6:00am.I don't stay up late except that time I was at shcool.I know it's bad to go to bad too late, because i often play games until the next morning while i was at school. At that time,i was just the person that people called them "nightperson",it's very tired while i played all night and the next morning i can't listen to the teacher at all,i was very sleepy in the class, this state continued for a years. But now i don't do like this,i need some sweet sleep and i can do my work. Please cherish your health!

11.30pm is still quite late, that is around the time I go to sleep 11.30pm and midnight. I know it is important to get more sleep, I do need to try and get more of it, just really like to have a few hours at night to finally chill out.

I do that quite often. With the multiple things that I do at night, I try to stay up for as long as I can in order to get as much as I can done. Sometimes I get so tired that I find myself nodding off.
Sometimes I am chatting with friends and having fun and just don't want to log off and go to bed. Yet, I have to force myself to turn off the computer by 2am when I have to work the next day.

I don't have a problem going to sleep and when I am tired I will simply crash. I rarely stay up too late even when I am very tired. I don't think that it's good for my body or my mind to do such a thing and I don't like how I feel as a consequence of staying up later than I should. Plus, I don't like the idea that my judgment and reflexes could be impaired due to me staying up too late.

I normally do not keep myself awake for so long. I get up early in the morning, so if I am tired by the end of the day, I prefer to go to sleep so that I could get up next day in time. If the next day happens to be a Sat. or Sunday or a Holiday, then I may remain awake for extra 1-2 hours. When everybody is asleep, it is complete calm and peaceful and whatever I am doing at that time e.g. mylotting or reading, I enjoy myself completely at that time.
Good Post!

I hope she sleeps well for you, I know what you mean about having time out when everyone is in bed. I try to do it as often as I can but it is hard as my hubby always waits for me so we can go to bed together. Yes it could be said that it is sweet but I never have any time to myself and it is so nice just to get an hour of total solitude.
I will stay up even if I know that I have to get up early the next day, just to get that bit of peace.

She actually got up a few hours later, thought she would be out for the night. She got up at 1am only hour after I decided to go to bed. I am so tired today, did not get back to sleep till 2am then up at 6am, so had around 4 1/2 hours sleep. I was just about to say, "how sweet" of your husband waiting up for you. I do understand though that you want that "me" time, it is sacred, lol. I could not wait up for my partner he is up till like 2 or 3am, don't know how he does it. I hope you enjoy your solitude tonight, I know I will, he he.

I always did the same thing,my daughter never went to sleep easy so when she finally did I would stay up to get that time to myself. You need it,and you need th sleep to,I guess its a catch 22.I think i would nap with her the next day at some point to catch up on my sleep. But then I could never count on her sleeping at all, believe me when she did I tried to enjoy what time I had to myself I never knew how soon she would wake up and she was never a content baby always needing to be held and I would pace the floor for hours with her.
Good luck with you and your baby, enjoy now all you can they grow up too quickly mine just turned 17 and I miss those days of pacing with her.

Yes I know it is catch 22 I do need the sleep but if I have the choice I chose to be awake and have some time out, lol. The problem is my baby also does not sleep much in the day, I am lucky if she sleeps an hour in the day time, not sure why. But she is a placid happy baby suprisingly, glad she sleeps most of the night.
I am enjoying every moment, I do love the baby stage. This is my third child my eldest is 12, middle one is 3 and baby is 4 months. I wish they didn't grow up too quick. Thanks for posting, hope you have a great day, you sound like a proud mum.
