I prefer gift cards and even the grocery store cards since I get paid beginning of the month and the holidays are at the end of the month.
The reason for gift card is that sometimes people get you perfumes or lotions and I really need to not have those items and also to check ingredients on items due to allergies and skin conditions.

Yes, sometimes it is easier unless you know the person that you are buying for really well. Thanks for sharing!

Especially at Christmas time when returns are such a hassle. Thanks for responding!

I prefer gifts. I am not a shopper, I just don't enjoy it. Usually people ask things we might be interested in for gifts, so it's not like we really get things we dont want. Plus, I enjoy the act of opening the gift. I don't know why.I just really enjoy seeing the christmas tree all piled with presents. It makes it more Christmasy to me. So, I am a gift person.

I really love the surprise on my kids faces Christmas morning. I guess it wouldn't be the same if there was a pile of cards lol :)

yes, it seems like a way to get off of putting in the effort and thought.

I always buy gift cards for my nephews and feel like I am being a bit lazy, but they are so hard to buy for.

I enjoy getting gifts more than gift cards. I like knowing that my husband and my family have been listening when I've mentioned things I'd like to have all year. I also love surprise gifts that have a lot of thought put into them. Usually when my husband and I receive gift cards, they are for places we don't go. We've tried to explain to his grandma that we really would be happy with just money because we are saving up to buy a new house, but she things giving money is too impersonal. So every year we get gift cards for restaurants we don't eat at or stores we really don't need to shop at. We appreciate that she gave us a gift at all, but it would just be nice if she would listen to us. The money would be far more useful and would be helping us. I guess to me that would be better than sending a gift card that never gets used. If anything, we usually end up exchanging the gift card with someone for cash to put in the bank!

Since I usually don't receive any presents, I would welcome both! :)
I haven't received any presents this year from my husband, nor in years past... This year will be another "no presents" year...

I love gift cards because you can get anything with them and they are good as gifts for other people and are veyr good to keep yourself going if you are strapped for cash at christmas time or whatever time throughout the year.

This is true. A gift card can be a nice surprise for people who can't afford to go out to dinner much or treat themselves. Thanks for sharing!

It does not matter to me as long as it is a place I want to go visit.

Hmm well gifts are nice if it is something I really want or if it it thoughtful, but then with giftcards you can get whatever you wish where the gift card is from. So it is a toss up for me. But I do enjoy both! :)

I would rather a gift card in some cases. Only because we get gifts from some people for are kids, and are selfs that are really just a waste of money. I know there hearts in the right place but I would rather they didn't send there money on things that will sit in a clost for the next 10 years. I always feel bad about that, but what are you going to do when some one gets you a toaster and you all ready have one, or they give a 3 year old a puzzle book? so I say if you dont know what to get someone get them a gift card.

Yes and it can be embarrassing if you toss it or exchange it and then are asked about it, thanks for sharing!
