Coffee is beverage made from grounded roasted coffee beans. Coffee, according to studies does have modest cardiovascular effects such as increased heart rate, increased blood pressure, and occasional irregular heartbeat that should be considered. Studies have been largely inconclusive regarding coffee and its effect on women's health issues such as breast health, cancer, and osteoporosis. But, the negative effects of coffee tend to emerge in excessive drinking.
Another thing about coffee is its being addictive. Caffeine, coffee's main ingredient is an addictive stimulant. And excessive drinking of coffee does cause addiction so they say. Now, millions of heavy coffee drinkers around the world, would you honestly admit you are addicted to coffee? Do you become sick from not being not able to take it? When you are suddenly deprived of your coffee, do you get headaches or suffer fatigue and depression? Are you unable to function at your usual level of efficiency, like trouble in concentrating and learning when deprived of coffee? Are you like a car that run out of gas when no coffee enters your stomach? Please share your thoughts! Thanks

I am so addicted to coffee. Although, I only have about 2-3 cups in the morning. I guess that is still alot. If I don't have it I get a heavy head. There are some positive medical studies for coffee too. I think one of them was for depression.

My personal belief is that those positive medical studies are financed by coffee manufacturers.
Thank you for sharing your experience.

Good point, I'm sure alot of them would be. Here is an interesting article if you're interested it's from The New England Journal of Medicine published in The Readers Digest- http://www.readersdigest.ca/mag/2002/02/coffee.html

I am addicted to both tea and coffee! I have a travel mug of tea on my way to work and then when I get there, I have a nice cup of coffee. However, I like my coffee sweet and well flavored. I work in a nursing home and tend to use a splash of vanilla health shake in my coffee as both sweetner and flavoring. Yum!
I tend to get a bit cranky if I don't get one or the other. I almost always have a headache. I do notice it is worse without the coffee and tea.

Yes, I can admit it. I also think it is no worse than drinking lots of sodas a day. There was a recent study saying those that drank multiple cups of coffee a day also lived longer. So it has its pros and cons. The accelerated heart beat does not affect all people. If you stop and think about it, anything will kill you if done or eaten in excess.

I can say that I am addicted to drinking coffee. I know just about everyday I have a 8-12 cup pot fixed every morning. I have a cup of coffee right now. I'm not sick about saying that I'm addicted to drinking coffee. I drink it in the place of tea when I have not sugar. I don't need sugar with my coffee. Just cream and I'm good. I can't drink coffee black. If I don't drink it in them morning like I normally do, I have gotten a headache. I still function regardless, and yes I'm the car. Have a good one.

I would have to say that I do have somewhat of an addiction to coffee. However, I only drink coffee in the morning. Maybe about one to two cups and then later drink decaffeinated coffee. I do agree about the effects of caffeine on people and I am sure that it does create some problems for some people. Yes, I have suffered a headache or two if I withdraw from it once in a while. It does help me to function and concentrate and I do have bouts with feeling a little lethargic later on in the day.

Hi salonga. I will raise my hand on that and admit, I am really addicted to coffee before. I tried to cope with it and I want to gradually less drinking it so I take hot chocolate. Now I think I'm still addicted to it, just today I took a 3 cup of coffee this morning because it's very cold this day.I know excessive drinking coffee is not healthy to kidney, caffeine is like diuresis, which I read to an article. Too much caffeine will not make us sleep because there's a substance that make us alert, that's why when I'm in college I take coffee for me to get alert until I finish all my home works. Well, it's my daily routine in the morning, I don't take breakfast but I only drink coffee just to make me alert. But I guess, this is not a term of addiction now, because I can still control my cravings in coffee not like before. Enjoy your day and happy myLot.

Daily allowance of a moderate 2/4 cups a day is safe. When people see me drinking coffee they say "you shouldn't drink coffee it will give you ulcer".However recent studies shows that most ulcers are caused by particular bacteria namely "helicobacter pylori",coffee may serve to aggravate existing ulcers.Thank you for the information.Cheers...

Ok, ok. I confess. I am a coffee addict. I've been addicted to coffee since college. Whenever I haven't had at least 3 cups of coffee a day. I tend to have a terrible headache. It's like water to me. The most that I have was 8 cups a day. Whew, and the first item that I pick up whenever I do my grocery is coffee. LOL.

You are very similar to one of my very best friends... a self-confessed coffee addict and coffee does affect her same way as you do.
Thank you for sharing!

There seem to be all kinds of studies on coffee - those that say moderate drinking is good for one's health, and ones reporting the opposite.
I am certainly addicted to coffee. I drink it all day long - from the time I wake up until I'm ready to go to bed at night. The caffeine does not keep me awake - ever.
If I don't have coffee to drink, and cannot find a good substitute (like Coke) to get some caffeine, I get a horrible headache. And if I let that go, my caffeine headache will turn into a horrible migraine.

I definitely admit, I am a coffee addict. I can drink it all day; I love the smell of it. I have read a lot of positive effects of coffee along with some negative effects. I think that it may be true that the positive studies come from studies backed by the coffee industry. Just like the Aluminum industry was responsible for propogating the lie that Floride is good for your teeth, so they didn't have to clean up this by product of aluminum manufacturing. Still, I am an addict. I try to cut back and even stop periodically just to give my body a rest from it. When I do, I typically suffer headaches for a day or two.

You got me there. Yes, I can honestly say I am addicted to coffee. Coffee is first before water. After brushing my teeth in the morning I need to make a cup of coffee or esle, I will feel uneasy. I know it is bad but it keeps me going. A friend has adviced me that if getting sleepy is my problem I should take Vit B12. I od agree, but the aroma and the mentally that it makes me excited and everything is the thing that matters. Take care

My day starts with a fresh brewed coffee, I don't drink instant, it just has to strong filtered coffee from the machine. It gives me a high to start my day. I usually drink more than 6 cups in a day, sugarless, so I am a coffee addict and proud to be one.

Nah, not me! Thankfully, hehe. I used to drink coffee a lot but not anymore.
But even then, I wasn't really addicted. I was drinking more for the sake of the hope of trying to keep awake.

Yes, I am addicted. Does someone have a support group going on? lol
I drink about 4 cups everyday in the morning usually. It's part of my morning routine. I can go without eating breakfast but I want my coffee! I like it with creamer and sweetener and lots of both.
I have been thinking of buying some decaf and using half regular and half decaf. That way I'd only be drinking two cups in the morning. I think that might be better than drinking the whole four cups.
My son will drink a whole pot of coffee. He does that everyday. Especially before a work out.

I don't know why there is always such a fuss about coffee, it's just a drink, mostly water, that people enjoy. Me, I drink probably a pot a day, starting when I wake up in the morning and lastly right before I go to bed. Is it addictive? No more so than any other caffeine filled drink,,like colas. I used to drink maybe thirty cups a day or more when I was working. Did I suffer withdrawals when I slowed down the coffee? Nope, never even noticed a difference Without coffee I can still function in a normal manner. Just don't deprive me of my nicotine
