How many times do you wake up during the night?

I'm really happy when I actually get to sleep at night, so waking up in the middle of the night is no big deal. I'm just super excited to have been able to get any sleep. On average I think I wake up twice a night. But like last night, one of those reasons was because of my dog Sherlock. He woke me up with a consistent, little bark, just loud enough to penetrate my sleep, but not loud enough to wake up a neighbor. He wanted me to let him under the covers. Once I did, he was happy and we both went back to sleep.
What about you? How many times do you wake up or even get up a night, and are there specific reasons why?

I waken up once every night to use the bathroom. Same time every night for the past many years and I annoy the two dogs who sleep with me as I waken them up.

I get up maybe once to use the bathroom. Lately I am having some difficulty breathing, sinus issues, and so sometimes that wakes me up.

Dear friend,
It depends for how well I get a sleep and some days I may get a good sleep and hence some I do get better one. Some time get up for urinal and some not even for that. It entirely depends how well I get a sleep. Once I had even consulted psychologist for not getting normal sleep later I advised to meditate and a good sleep was attained.

I hate to wake up in the middle of the night, especially when I am sleeping soundly and need to get up suddenly. Normally I try not to wake up in the middle of the night. The only reason makes me wake up is go to the washroom. After I experienced this, I am trying not to drink too much water before sleep. Now thing is getting better, I can just sleep peacefully for the whole night until the next morning.

I was wondering when someone was going to mention the snoring of their spouse! My sister snores like a chain saw, so when I had to share a room with her it was just awful. Ear plugs didn't even work, so I feel sorry for people who have to share a bed with a snorer!

It varies for me. I get major bouts of insomnia sometimes so waking up in the middle of the night usually means I'm up for a while, even if I've only gotten a couple of hours of sleep. I really hate it because no matter how tired I get I just can't sleep.
When I'm not in a bout of insomnia I usually sleep thru the night pretty well as long as I don't move around too much. Between Fibro and Arthritis tossing and turning can be painful enough to wake me up. Most of the time I can go back to sleep without too much difficulty.

I feel for you. I have fibromyalgia and arthritis too. I used to take medicine for Restless Leg Syndrome, but quit because of my insurance changing. I really sympathize. I watched my mom deal with it before I started feeling the effects of fibro as an adult. My mom used to stay up all night because every position she slept in was painful.

I wake up at least 2 or 3 times a night normally, and for no reason. Sometimes I wake up every hour or every half hour, and when that happens for a few days in a row I end up sleepy during the day. I used to have trouble actually getting to sleep too, but now I'm usually so tired I fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow. There are also many nights when I wake up at 2 or 3 am. and can't get back to sleep. I usually give up after a half hour or so and get up for a while.
I always envy people who can sleep straight through the night, and sleep so heavily through all kinds of noises. If I have trouble sleeping more than 4 or 5 nights in a row, I take some Excedrin Pm, and then I can sleep, and that seems to help regulate my sleep to make it more normal for a while.

I remember when I was a kid my dad slept through a tornado. My mom, sister and I were huddled in the hallway, but he was sleeping away in his bedroom. My mom woke him up and told him about it and he said it was OK, he'd rather sleep through it than worry about it in the hallway. It didn't go down our street, but two streets away from us. It blew shingles off our roof and was really loud, but he slept through it all.

Your Dad's lucky he can sleep like that. It's like he's got a super talent for sleeping. My husband's like that too. He's never slept through a tornado, but he has slept on a very narrow bench in a noisy steel mill while his friends tried to harass him by making more loud noises. He told me that a lot of guys that work at the steel mill can sleep like that. It must be a learned thing.

Hi,dear AmbiePam,
Actually, most of the time I will sleep till the next day as I am the type of person who sleeps really sound without knowig anything happened around me at night.
Every time when my roommate talk about the rain or something happened during the night I am always the only one who knows nothing due to the reason that I am busy with my sleeping ....
I remember in previous month as everyone knows there is a really big earthquake in china ..so during that time within one week we haven't have any good sleepings ,for everyone is so scared about that devastating earthquake..

I sleep like a baby through the night. If I do wake up at night, it is because I cant sleep either because its too hot or too cold or I feel uneasy. Usually, I will sleep 8 hours or more through the night and I have no problems going to sleep. I dont know about anyone else but I wake up 0-3 times during the night.

Mine is like a electrical circuit. If main switch is off then whole circuit will be cut. For me after going to bed my main switch will be off. I will not get up for another 8 hours. I am very lucky in this. If my mobile rings also i will pick up the phone and give some answer in sleep mode only.

My husband and I both work nights. We have to try to go to sleep during the daylight hours. It is very hard to go to sleep when the sun is shining. We have tried to change our room around to make it darker in there. I wake up several times because my dog wants out or I just cannot go to sleep with the light in the room.

I went to someone's house, I forget who they were, and they worked at night and had to catch their sleep during the day. Every single window, including the bottom of the door where light sometimes peaks in, was covered in tin foil. They tried really hard to make it dark.

I'm kind of lucky...I'm one of those people that as soon as I fall asleep that's it...nothing short of a bomb detonating near me will wake me up..BUT...there are a few times I've awakened while sound asleep..One time I had just gone to bed and drifting into the merry land of nod...suddenly I was awakened by a brilliant light. My bedroom is really just an alcove, no door just an archway that leads into the living room. The light? From my computer! One of my darlings must have walked on the keyboard setting the computer on again...and yikes I never realized how bright the light from the computer monitor could be until then.
I also tend to wake up if I sense something wrong. This was three years ago...my mother was still alive. Now I have always had night owl hours and woke up later in the day. But this one day, I woke up..like boom...It was about 10 in the morning. I sensed something wrong. Then I heard a very faint voice saying my name...I got up thinking that maybe my mother had gone out early to do some grocery shopping..and looked out my bedroom window..thinking maybe she was downstairs in the outside entry and had forgotten her keys..nope...then still heard her voice calling my name very softly... I now go into the living room, nothing..look in the kitchen nothing...go to the front door and open it thinking maybe she was standing outside...nope. It wasn't until I looked at the hallway leading to the bathroom that I saw a large pool of blood then saw her half sitting up at the bathroom doorway..she had somehow managed to drag herself there, but she had fallen and was covered in blood ...her fall had such an impact and she must have fallen right on her head that her eyesight was out of alignment..crossed-eyed..needless to say I called 911 to go to the ER...oh, my life was never boring then...LOL...needless to say the reason she had fallen was she had been drinking..uh, yes,she started REAL early in the day--her breakfast tea wasn't always tea

That's sweet! My cat EB is the same way if I let
her stay in the room with me.
She spends half an hour cleaning her fur
and then when I finally fall asleep she starts
back up again.
So most nights, she has to sleep in the living room!
If she would just calm it down with the constant
movement, she could stay in the room with me!

On average, I wake up maybe twice a night, for now. Being due to have a baby any time (got that little one, any time now would be nice!!!!), I have to get up to pee due to someone kicking against my bladder half the night.
Any time, I will be getting up every few hours to feed, and that will then make my average for getting up about 5 times a night!!!!! Arrrrggghhh! Why do I keep getting myself into situations like this! lol.
Our youngest 2 who, are 1 and 2 years, still get us up in the middle of the night on occasion too, but usually, they go back to sleep pretty quickly.

hi ambiePam in my senior years I have found if I dont drink
enough water I wake up in the middle of the night with painful
leg cramps. okay so if i do drink plenty of water, of course I wake up in the middle of the night to go wee wee, so I cannot
win, but since I have had a lotof insomnia just the fact that I am actually sleeping is so good I do not mind stumbling to the bathroom as long as I fall back to sleep quickly . lol

Hello,AmbiePam.I should say that I am very lucky because I never wakes up during the night and I nearly have no dreams when I am sleeping. The doctor says:Dream is good for our health and if you don't have dreams,it must because that you work too hard. But I really don't have hard works everyday. So why I have few dreams?
