Does having a computer save you money?

About two weeks ago my computer went down. At first I was mad, then I panicked, then I realized all the things I need a computer for. I had to mail my bills with a stamp at .43 each. I had to track down all the sales that go along with my coupons with the paper instead of a list online. I had to go to the bank to ballance the checkbook. One thing after another after another was costing me money. I was using more gas then ever trying to keep up on it all and the time I waisted has got to be worth something. Needless to say I bought a new computer and now I am saving the money I was before. I hope that the new computer will pay for its self soon.
What do you do to save money, or make money with your computer?

Having a computer is helpful and makes life a lot simpler. It gets rid of a lot of extra stress in my life.
However, it does not save me money. I to pay my bills online. If I didn't then I would just have to go into the bank and pay them. This isn't a big deal. It might cost me a few more dollars a month for a better banking package... as my banking package is mainly online as is.
It takes a lot of organization. Planning to do things together while you're in one area.
The cost of a computer and electricity and the internet probably does not outweigh the little bits and pieces you save by having it. Or I believe that is true in my case.

I just left the store where I used $19 in coupond for things that were on sale. I saved 50% of my total bill and it was all because I looked up the local store online and did what the list told me to do. I also come home and log what I buy, then I get points that I can trade in for cash. It is all by computer. When I figure it all out I am making about $20 when I am trying to and it is all the computer. I guess it is all by what we do with the computer and how bad we want to do it. We are a one income family so I do all I can. I would love to relax a bit more though.

I think I could still do a lot of coupons without my computer but it would be so much work that I would never really do it. Im part Scottish to so maybe that is why I work the coupons so hard too. Lol.

I didn't even think about all those coupons. I got tons of rebate and freebies online too. There is also the bits of money I make from mylot.
I live with my mom and she pays the bills. I'm sure we could save a lot more but were all so busy. I usually work 6 days a week. So I try to relax and do something social on my day off.
I too am the coupon Queen. My mom says its the Scottish in me

I think I save money. My husband and I have two checking accounts and pay our own bills all mine are set up online. He runs around and pays them or has to mail them off. With gas prices like they are I am not fixing to run around and try to pay 10 bills a day. That would cost me 20 dollars. I think he is finally seeing this and is starting to pay his stuff online as well. I do make quite a bit of money though on the internet and take my schooling on here which saves on gas also. I think that my computer helps me save a lot of money.

That is neat to be able to compare like that. My Hubby and I are on one income so if we had seperate money I would be on the losing end of things. I can only assume I am doing something that is saving us money.

Besides paying bills online and banking online, I save money by not subscribing to the newspaper any more and reading it online instead. I don't subscribe to many magazines, either, because there is so much information online. Freebies that I find online, as well as printable coupons, help stretch the budget. Comparing prices before buying something has saved a lot of money. Then there's the entertainment value. Instead of going out or buying something to entertain myself, I can do all sorts of things on the computer, from playing solitaire to joining groups specific to my interests and hobbies.
More than half my income comes from work I do online, and that, combined with the freebies, coupons and other benefits, make my computer the most important part of my finances.

I understand, and many two income families are struggling now, too. Part of it is because working costs so much. Not only childcare, but clothing, transportation and higher food costs. Sometimes, it's not worth it to bring in a second income. The best thing is to keep finding more ways to save and stretch the money you have.
I subscribe to a couple of magazines, too, but I used to subscribe to a half dozen or more. That makes a difference!

You cant say enough good things about freebies! Id love to be able to say that half my income comes from online. I clean my Moms house and she feels like she needs to pay me so that is where most of the money I make is. It is a total of $100 a month for 1 to 2 days a week of cleaning, and I can take my kids and know they are safe. My Hubby is the money in our family and I am the Mom. It works out okay but it is hard to watch the economy get worse and know that we are in a one income family. It is getting harder and harder to do what we feel like is right for us.
We do get a few magazines, but they are the ones we have founds a great deal for online.

It does. I stay home more and research prices before going and buying things. I very seldom mail things anymore.

I needed a stamp a while ago and I had no idea where all my stamps were. I use them very seldom too.

My computer helps me make alot of money with all the things I do online to make money. I also am paying most of my bills online so I am saving on stamps. It also keeps entertained enough that I keep the TV off some of the time that I'm on the computer. I use a laptop so I feel that I save on electric also. I do enjoy my computer.

Hi Happythoughts. I make my computer earn me money. How strange does that sound? I earn money online by selling books. Now I am experimenting with sites like Mylot.com to see if I can get back more of my computer and broadband costs. I would also add that now I do all my banking online and that some of the best rates of deposit/savings account interest are only available to online bank accounts. Add to that all the money you save by broking online or purchasing goods or flights online and any work you do from home using your computer and you see that the saving can be indeed significant.
All the best from Germany

PS.I forgot to add all those emails, the ICQ and MSN messenger services and Skype which save a fortune in phone bills :-)

You are so right. All of my family is a long distance call away so we use email and instant messaging to keep in touch. It has saved me a ton in the past years. I love technology.

Hey happythoughts, what a relief to have a happy message. I'm bogged down in personal attacks instead of a discussion. Helpppp!... I am from Ireland but live in Germany. To me technology is a lifeline. It's amazing how much has changed in the 9 years I have been here. Even the flights are cheaper because they are booked online. I LOVE TECHNOLOGY TOO:-)
Have a good weekend.

We do a lot of things online, mostly for the convenience. I also use my computer for a lot of the work I do - it wouldn't be possible for me to run my business without it.
I have used my computer to make money online - writing articles, reviews, worksheets, and participating in surveys and PTP sites. But I think that if I did not do these things, I would just work more or do something else - we need more money.

Yeah it does save you a money.. Actually alot of money. You can pay bills in the internet, watch news and stuff which would cost you money (gasoline and some coins to buy newspaper). And all this you can actually reach even with old computer. I think you can read news even with the first computers availeble there to go into internet. It does not require much for a computer :)

Yes I also save money by paying bills and banking on the internet, which saves on stamps and envelopes.
If I am buying anything I check out prices on the internet before deciding which brand to buy and where to buy it from.
I have saved money buying books online, even with delivery costs, it was cheaper than ordering and buying them through a book store.
I make money from almost everything I do on the internet. I get paid for my searches, for my activities at myLot, for my articles and reviews, for reading and voting on reviews, for promoting my blog and for giving my opinion in surveys and polls.

I tried making money online and it took up so much of my life. I wish I were smarter about it but for now I will just be thankful for the pennies I am making here and hope that some day I can get something great with all of them.

I have never made money in my life with a computer, in fact the bills are frequent. One friend of mine however is savvy about the stock market, and lives off the lap top, so you travels all the time, and making a fortune buying and selling shares, so some have it some dont.
