My little Kitten Oreo died at 5:00 am yesterday morning.I was so saddened and heartbroken.I held him for the 3 hours that he lived as I couldnt put him down because I know how I would feel if someone didnt hold me while dying or was their to comfort me.It started around the day before he was fine and playing. We did notice he started getting constipated then he got diarreha.Well my husband hollered for me to come in to the kitchen as he said what is wrong with the cat?He had his paws out in front of him and was laying on the floor .He looked like he was trying to go to the litter pan.Well I picked him up and his head went back and his front paws and legs he couldnt move.It was like he was paralized. My husband called the vet at 2:00am in the morning and she called him back and said it sounded like he was having seizures and to gie him a little bit of syrup on his gums and keep giving him water as she said it sounded like he was maybe having low sugar.Well we did that and it got worse.I felt so bad for him that I couldnt help him.He looked so scared to be dieing .I guess I would be too.He finally gave his last breath in my arms and I cried all day.I felt like crap and felt numb and like I couldnt make it through the day.I am glad my husbands mom had the kids for the night.I still miss him and every morning it is like I can almost think he is their but is no more.It is so sad to lose a pet. They bring us so much love and joy.I am think on getting another cat maybe two this time but right now I am still mourning. Not one at is the same.My sister has kittens that are ready to be weened off of their mom in about a week.I think if mybe Oreo was not taken from his mother of being weened so soon then he might have survived but other kittens who have been orphaned have survived. He was weened off of his mom at 4 weeks because that was what the vet said that was how old he was.He died at 5and a half weeks.I think he might have had lukemia as I had a cat a long time ago when I was about 10 years old and he got paralized and had the white gums.I noticed Oreo had white gums when he was dying.Plus it smelled like death in his litter pan the day before. But I will never know what he died from.I am assuming it was lukemia as he had the symptoms. The vet said that their was probably nothing they could have done fo a little kitten since it was so little. Here is a poem(not written by me)dedicated to Oreo.It is a tear jerker. Thanks for reading my post.
Rainbow Bridge
by anonymous
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All of the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor and those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing, they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, after so long a time, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face, your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life, but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together

I am very sorry to hear that. I know we become so attached to our pets and we treat them like they are human or like our kids at times. I'm glad the poor kitty does not have to suffer now though. My heart goes out to you and your family.

You're welcome Carrie. I know how it feels to lose a pet. We have lost a few over the years also. It is hard to concentrate or function for a while right faterwards. I hope in time, you will be okay. I will say a prayer for you and your family.

i sure feel terrible for you, but at least you have family to comfort you. if i lost my little dog, there would be no one to stay with me till i was a little better. my daughter and family live a few miles away, but id pretty much be alone at night. yes, they are our family.

I am so sorry to hear about your kitten, Oreo. Your discussion brought tears to my eyes. It's so difficult to lose a pet. It's the only setback from having a pet that is so loved. I know it's a rough day and again, I am so sorry for your loss.
We do have a cat and when she's gone I will be totally devistated. She's with me all the time when I am home. Follows me all over the house. She pays more attention to me and what I do then my husband!

You worded your response so well. You have a way with words. Brings me to the point of tears because I know how important a pet is in my life. We've always had a dog or 2 dogs at once. So sad when they are gone. I do make it a point to take pictures of them at some point.
Take care,

Carrie I'm so sorry you lost your little one. I feel so bad for you. I have lost my baby, Boxer and he was my life. I have 4 more babies now. AT the time I just had him and Ninja. Ninja and I grieved so much for him. I still do and I'm sure Ninja misses him to. Your poem was a refreshing thought.
I know he as well as others went to a good place and have not needs now. it's this way with all innocents, and our animal babies are innocent. They are precious little ones.

i think all animals and kids go to Heaven. once i saw a dream of jesus christ sitting on a large rock on a hill wearing a long white gown with brown sash and sandals. he had his rod with him in his right hand. his long hair and beard, and bunch of little kids and animals sit around him smiling up at him in wonderment and awe. that dream was filled with a strong peace and love radiating from the interaction between jesus christ, animals and kids, like there was some special connection between them. it gave me a good feeling...

I'm so sorry. No matter how long our pets are with us, they touch our hearts in ways only they can do. I'm sure that Oreo knew he was loved, and that's the important thing.

I'm so sorry for your loss. You have a beautiful heart to have put yourself in his shoes and held him in his last hours....many people don't care 1/10 that much. I have four cats and a malamute and I love them all like children....each has his or her own little personality and they keep me company when no one else is here. That is a most beautiful story..........I hope things really happen that way....I believe animals have souls(sometimes more so than humans),I know they are a wonderful addition to our home and I can't imagine my life without them! Time will heal your heart and God will make room there for another little pet(one that will be so lucky to have a loving owner like yourself).

I am sorry about your Oreo kitten. I know how it feels to have pets die in your arms. The kitten was lucky to have you there for comfort. That baby needed a mommy during its time of suffering, and you were it. When you get your next kitten, it will be a little older and weaned so hopefully you will have better luck with many years of love and cuddling.

Thanks.I am going to get 2 kittens (so each other will have someone to play with as well as us to play with) off of my sister since her cat had kittens a month ago and I will know for sure they are weened off of thier mom and will at least be able to have a chance to make it.Yeah I did feel like a mom to the cat as I held him as I thought of him as one of my kids. Thanks for responding.

I am so, so sorry to hear about your little " oreo". It is so very hard to loose a pet,.Whether we have them for one hour or for 6 weeks, they do bring such joy and unconditional love to our lives. I myself have a cat, dog and a rabbit. I am not sure if it was the fact that oreo was taken from his mom at 4 weeks, my sons kitten was taken at 4 weeks also and she is fine. It sounds more as if he had something physically wrong with him. I had a kitten one time that had an enlarged heart and we had to put her to sleep, They add so much to our lives, and make us laugh. Just know that the short time that "oreo" was with you he was very happy, and that he is in a better place.Think about the good times.
I wish you the best of luck, .

Hi. I am so sorry for your loss. I have four dogs just now. When i was younger i had a dog called reba. She was a lab / collie cross. She was getting old, her back legs weren't supporting her anymore and without telling me my dad took her to the vet to be put down.
I came home from school and she wasn't there anymore. I didn't cry or react for a few weeks, I didn't know how to process it. Even now 12 years later i can't forgive my parents for not telling me, i didn't get to say goodbye.
Pets are family and the loss is as great as any other member. Even 12 years later typing this i am breaking my heart because i miss her so much.
I feel for you and anyone else who has ever lost a pet. xx
