this discussion is being spurred from another discussion in which someone was asked if they would kill their own child if they were asked to by God. this persons reply to the question??
"I pray that I would obey God and trust Him enough to do what He asks me to do."
not.. if the god i followed ordered i do such a thing, id be not only reexamining my beleifs but seekingmental health assistance.. OR id sooner suffer the damnation of hell than kill my baby.. but matter of factly stated she hopes shed have faith enough to slaughter her own baby as God wanted!!! this has only further fueled my disdain for those who CLAIM to follow the teachings of the Christ and my only hope is that this person will never EVER be gifted with the ability to breed!!! and if she does in fact already have children.. they have my deepest sympathies to have been cursed with such a mother. im truly horrified even further by this person, and i didnt think that was even possible. wtf is wrong with people???

Tessah,
You have absolutely no understanding at all of what the Bible says. You just don't get it. You do not know God and that is very sad.
I would trust God with my child because He is GOD! He is faithful! He is loving and kind!
God loves our children more than we do. I know that is very hard for us to comprehend. Being human, we can only love so much, but God loves far more than we do. A child that is with the Lord is FAR better off than with it's parents...if that is His will. God's will is perfect and those who know the Lord personally, trust in this fact.
You just have no understanding at all of Who God really is and the meaning behind the story of Abraham.
God sent His one and only Son, Jesus Christ, to become the Ultimate Sacrifice for us. We no longer have to sacrifice for our sins, because Christ has already done that by what He did on the cross. He shed His precious blood to save us all from our sins.
You can bash me all you want. I will NEVER stray from the Lord because someone refuses to ackowledge His Truth.
May God bless you!

Oh Tessah! You are so blinded by ignorance of the Bible. You don't know what I am saying to you.
God would never ask me to kill my child. What He did with Abraham was totally a different story. He was testing his faith. God did not take Isaac.
Yes, I trust God completely!
You know, if I could scare you into heaven, I would!
God be with you.

i really really hope you dont have any children and that you are never capable of having any. your attitude is positively shameful and akin to that woman who drowned all five of her babies one by one because god told her to. i spose you admire her faith and wish you could be like her too? sickening!!!!

Ok, you know I can't refuse this one. I'm on the left field...or maybe the right ;) when it comes to faith, religion, and Christianity. I read the Bible and go to church, but I follow my Lord in a very personal way.
All that said for anyone reading this, I am appaled at so called christians spuing ignorance like this. There was a time and place when the teachings and recordings of the old testament held true. But this isn't that time, nor that place. I'm not gonna get all preachy, cuz I can see enough already did that, and it went hay wire.
My view is this, my god would never tell me to do such a thing. He may tell me or encourage me to do something that sounds hard or impossible, to test my faith, but never something that goes against his own morals and standards. He wouldn't have sent his sone to die for us, if he wanted to see any of us die. Plain and simple.
Any way, nice discussion

i look forward to it.
and not for nothing.. but the way you word things sometimes even further induces my respect for you. in this post here, you said "I read the Bible and go to church, but I follow my Lord in a very personal way." now it might be a little thing, but im an analytical sort of person, and the fact you said MY Lord.. meaning he is who you feel to be your god, and not THE Lord implying he should be for all.. means a hell of alot.

Thanks, its pretty sad that I get more respect from people from opposing religions than the from the people who profess the same faith. It's got my mind spinning a little, so watch for some discussions from me in the near future...I think I feel some inspiration coming on:)

Well if god ever came to me and told me to kill my child my answer to god will be screw you . I am not bothered what the god will think coz to me my child or my parents or my wife is more than anything in this world. My child who looks upon me as his idol, am his god and am his everything and if god wants me to kill him then I would say, do one thing kill me coz I am your child and if you cant kill me then how do you expect me to kill my child.

I don't believe that for a second, Tessah. You have no knowledge of God whatsoever.
and you have no knowledge of what it means to be a loving parent Song so your best bet is to just step aside on this one....I agree with both amrishkj and tessah...

i agree, i woult definately be questioning whats going on and would check myself into a mental health facility. And if that person experienced that how the heck would you know that it is god talking to you? God wouldn't ask someone to kill their child, that sounds more satanistic

You are right, rbailey.
God would never ask anyone to kill their child.
This stemed from a topic regarding Abraham from the Old Testament in the Bible. God was testing Abraham's faith in sacrificing his son, Isaac. Abraham trusted the Lord completley, knowing that Isaac would be fine, and obeyed God. God intervened and did not take Isaac and blessed Abraham for his great faith.
God bless you.

You still don't understand. I pray one day you will.
Do you know that you could lose your children? It happens everyday and I pray that you don't. But those who have lost children and know the Lord, know that their child is with their Heavenly Father and is fine.
I have a friend in church who lost her daughter to cancer. She knows that Adrienne (her daughter) is with the Lord now. Adrienne was not afraid to die because she knew Jesus Christ. She touched many lives and helped give others strength and hope...hope in Jesus Christ.
No, God would never ask anyone to kill their child. The living God is not like that. He is love and we cannot blame Him for the evil in this world. We can say "yes" to God and "no" to Satan.
May God bless.

I agree with you that any "god" who says you have to kill or have your kid killed for his "cause" is a mantally deranged person and should be restricted from exercising all his/her parental rights. I think that parents like these belong to the psycho ward. I too am horrified but then again, the truth is that this is really happening in the world right now. Tho' I do not believe in any organized religion I believe in Jesus. In fact, the difference perhaps is this -- Jesus gave his life to us. Other religions (oops!) demand that we DIE for their "cause". Now I would rather choose LIFE !

Mylot hates me! I had a well thought out answer and I lost it when it said I wasn't logged in.
To sum up:
This is one of the main reasons I'm not a christian. Blind faith. I believe that children should be cherished, not sacrificed to a God.

wow..
and this is some people's sick reason for doing killing.
"God told me to"
but have they ever thought the voice their hearing telling them to do it is really the voice of the devil???
God wouldn't ask us to do such a thing.
Not my God anyways.
I serve a good and loving God that wants to GIVE me things, not take them away.
he gave me my children as a gift. they are the best and most precious gift that I'll ever get and he wouldn't take that from me.
if I did ever in my life hear a voice telling me to do something like that, I'd know who it was and it's not God.
these people do need mental help.
I mean I agree with the comment as far as obeying God and doing what he says to do, but it wouldn't be killing my own child (or killing anyone!)
those aren't the kinds of things He asks of us..

I agree with you there.. The God I know is a great GOD and I am certain that he would not ask anyone to kill their child o anyone for that matter. Because Jesus Christ already paid the ultimate price for us.. so that we can have good and great things if we believe and serve him....

And this is why I turned from that religion long ago, amongst other things.
It is sickening that some people in this day and age still think like this. This is equal with some neighbors dog telling you to go out and kill all those people (Son of Sam).
And for all the people who said that god never told anybody to kill their child, he did tell Abraham to kill his son. Yes he retracted it before it was too late, but that doesn't change the fact that he did tell him to do it.

I Would like to let you all know that someone saying that God ordered them to kill their child, is not insane really, but is actually listening to the devil. Living sacrifices was once part of our ancestors culture, the reason for such was that no one could go before GOD directly and ask for forgiveness, because of his holiness. Therefore for one to prove that he was truly sorry God decided the best of their flocks and everything they had was given as sacrifice. Also it was a way that the priest would atone for the sins of the people. Leviticus 4 and onward speaks about sacrifices..
HOPE YOU GOT A BIBLE...
In other parts of the old testament human sacrifices to God were hardly offered to but when it was it was for making of pacts between God and Man.
Now today there is no need for that Why? God sent his son as a living sacrifice for the sins of man and with that came freedom. There is no need to kill our children o animals because Jesus Christ already paid for all of our sins....... He was referred to as the Lamb of God why? because he was sacrificed as a sheep, for the world. Please be careful about what you hear and believe. GOD DOES NOT WANT ANY ONE TO KILL THEIR CHILDREN, PARENTS O ANYONE FOR THAT MATTER FOR HIS GLORY..... HIS SON JESUS CHRIST ALREADY PAID THAT PRICE... PEOPLE HEAR THREE VOICES: THEIR OWN VOICE, THE VOICE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT AND THE VOICE OF THE DEVIL.SEEK GOD SO THAT YOU WOULD BE IN TUNE TO HEARING HIS VOICE PRAY EVERY DAY. AND FOR MORE INFORMATION READ HEBREWS9: UNTIL YOU ARE SATISFIED...
I will right more on the topic of living sacrifices soon.........in the meantime read your Bibles.

knowledge is power Dark.. and when the fanatics start saying this is there and that ISNT there.. if youre well-read and versed, youll already know the truth of it ..;nods;.. because honestly.. as much as they thump the cover of it.. more than half of them have never read it themselves or have a clue whats within its pages. if they did.. theyd burn it.

I think mylot has a word limit so I can't answer your "wtf is wrong with people question" but this particular mother needs to have her eggs removed or have her children (if she has any) immediately taken from her before she thinks she sees jesus's face in her grilled cheese sandwich and he tells her to drown her children in the bathtub in his name.
She can be labeled a modern day John the Baptist off her meds by the media.
Have you noticed that more and more you hear stories about people throwing their kids out of skyscrapers windows and off bridges because they are in a custody battle or getting a divorce? Or is that just here in the states? I've stopped dwelling on it or I will find myself in jail for tracking down these lunatics and putting them out of their misery before they have a chance to hurt an innocent child.

That is disgusting and I don't know how on earth thatt the God she believes in would ever want her to kill her baby no way is that the right thing to do-at one time I was told I couldn't have children and that alone was devasting enough now I have been blessed with 2 lovely children whom are now grown up so whatever this women is saying is wrong a child is a blessing no matter what faith you believe in and this makes me angry knowing how someone can or could be so callous as as far as I know in the christian faith which is not my faith 'God is Love' well so much for that if killing a baby is what she believes bright Blessings littleowl

It's time for me to shut down the system, but I just don't have the heart to leave this unanswered.
I have said this many times, and I say this again: I was born and brought up a Catholic, and like most Catholics, I never read the Bible, word by word, until recently. The experience of reading the so-called "Word of God" was shocking. I felt sad and betrayed and lost too! Here was a supposed-to-be loving God ordering genocide, permitting the killing of children, punishing sons for the mistakes of their fathers, a jealous God who couldn't tolerate it when his people worshiped Baal and Ashtoreth (spelling ok?) I even posted a discussion on how depressed the Bible made me feel in the Paganism section. Somebody even responded that it was the "devil" who was making me feel like that. Hilarious, eh?
Now to answer your question: If God told me to kill my kid, I would say nothing doing. Because the real God, the loving Father and Mother, would never, ever, hurt a single hair of our heads. And I still believe in the love of God, even after the horrible experience of reading the Bible. The Biblical horror just can't be the real God. Can you imagine the true God feeling jealous?
Cheers and thanks for this lovely discussion!

GRRRR had a long response that I wrote out and was very thought ful and guess what mylot claimed that I was not logged in and I lost the whole dang thing. grrrrrr. Ok here is my stand I don't care if God himself came down in front of me and asked me to do that I wouldn't dare do that .. My child is more precious than my life. It wouldn't even matter if he said other wise the world is doomed I rather have my daughter and have the world doomed than to have to kill someone that I love so much and that I protected since they were in my womb.

People do things I consider horrible all the time. Why should this be surprising anymore?
You reaction comes from a certain belief structure. Her statement does as well. And, although I do no agree with her sentiment, I don't see anything malicious in it. It's just differently informed. I would feel bad for her child should such a thing occur, and for her for being stuck in that belief structure.

Exactly how would one know that he/she is being spoken to by god. It would either be a voice in his/her head, or a vision, wouldn't it?
I do not believe in the so called almighty god. But as I was brought up as a theist, it is in my instincts to pray to someone whenever I am sad, depressed or alone. But I know perfectly well that the God I am praying to exists solely in my subconscious, and the only power it has is to provide me with ideas and keep me calm during adversities.
As a result, whenever I shall hear god telling me to kill someone, be it my child, mother or my worst enemy, I would realize that something is wrong with my head and immediately consult a psychiatrist. And so should anyone else.
As for Christian who are trying to advocate their god by saying that the test was intended for Abraham only, I have a question for them. It's not intended as an attack. My question is , does God say anywhere in the Bible that no human after Abraham will ever be tested by him by the same manner?

good day.. If "god" asked me to kill my child to prove my faith, well I'd say I'd rather kill myself than do his bid. If he'll judge me then so be it, I wouldn't care less. I'll say your ways are confusing me better let me burn in hell than understand you.

Mmmmmm. Unfortunately, all too often, religion, the dogma, is a substitute for certain individuals using their brain. Certain people, not all, are more than eager to fill a void in their life, and take comfort in being told what to do and what not to do.
These people are not free. They are programmed. I hope sincerely that the post in which this person stated she would do this, was in actual fact was written flippantly, or as some kinda sick joke. I would hope that should it come down to it, the woman's brain, or the maternal instinct, would kick in.
This world is such a sad place at times as it is, without making it worse by people killing their own kids.
