Hi guyz...in your school life have you experienced correcting your teacher?..when you noticed something wrong with what she said?..i mean with her grammar or about the information she's sharing with you? But..what if this teacher doesn't want to be corrected? Like in my classmate's experience when we're in college he tried to correct our teacher because he noticed that there's something wrong with the lesson she's teaching..the information as a whole...that teacher got mad at him..and she gave him a failing grade in her subject..Do you think it's right?is it fair?

..of course that's not fair.. I've been teaching for a couple of years and I am a type of person who accepts corections and criticisms.. Maybe, the teacher was just embarrassed because your friend corrected him in his class.. The proper way of correcting somebody is not infront of an audience but it would be good to give your corrections and criticisms in a private way because anybody would really feel bad and react to something cruel when embarrassed infront of an audience.. it just the way we say things, the way we handle things, and the place where we do things that matters..

I agree with raynejasper. The best way to give someone else criticisms is in the private way. Like we should encourage our spouse just like what we do to our kids, and not point his/or her disadvantage in front of the kids. I have a friend, she is a little high maintenance, one of the friends told her he did not like this way. She was so mad at him and did not answer his phone for a while. But every friend knew she'd have been changing.

College proffessors are like none I have ever seen before. You have some really great ones and some really bad ones. I had a judge as a professor and I didn't think he was always in the right. I used to debate and argue with him like crazy. When it came time for the test he failed me which made me fail the class. I thought it was completely unfair so I went to the dean of my degree program. The dean was a lawyer and he said "What do you want me to do, I have to go in front of him with my cases". Which means that I messed with the wrong teacher and I couldn't do anything about it. Not that it makes it right, but all the classes the dean taught after that he passed me, even when I shouldn't have.

A professor failed my grandson in English because 'he was a jock and she knew about jocks'.....her very words in the first class he was in! He walked in class and she looked at him and told him that and she didn't even know him. His mother asked a guy she found out was in his class if he had said something to the professor. He said,no ma'am....that the woman just took one look at him when he walked in class and said that to him. He didn't go to his advisor about it because it was his first class in college and he didn't know to do it. Now he does. He should have gone and got another teacher for English.

Yes I did,I was just in grade 7 after taking a 6 month trip to Europe,Great Briton,France and Belgium. when we returned,I was speaking perfect French(real French),this was the first year I had to take French classes. Unfortunatly,I kept correcting the teacher,(being of a superior knowledge), at that time,I did not have much contact with the people from the other end of Canada(Quebec) so,I was sent to the principals office a few times over this, and I refused to except the fact she was speaking French. I did end up being expelled for a week for this. I did eventually allow that there were two types of French. Many Blessings.

Hello Odamashin...yes, I had this English teacher who was very accommodating and was very much open to corrections. In fact, she was very appreciative that she even gave me a thank you card, she wrote,'thanks for being inquisitive'. It was understandable for it was her first time to teach, I was 17 years old at that time and we established a very good teacher-student relationship. I think it is important, not just for teachers, but for all of us in general to be open to corrections. I find it foolish to hate being corrected. How else are we going to improve? Have a great day!

Oh! it's nice to hear that..it's great for students to have a good relationship with their teacher as well as teachers too.. We have to salute your teacher for that! Thanx for sharing..

hell no that teacher is just ignorant and your friend should inform other students from taking his class, or talk to her boss about it.

That's obviously not fair and that can't happen. I know that I wouldn't stand for that if I got a failing grade that I didn't deserve. There are rules against that lol. I have experienced a teacher getting upset with me for correcting them. This was way back in middle school though. My math teacher was not very good at math. He was supposed to be preparing us for the credit by exam. I was taking the math class in middle school for high school credit at the time. He was telling us that the opposite of zero was negative zero or some foolishness like that. I always learned that zero had no opposite; it stood alone. He went off on me and said that he was the one with the degree lol. Crazy...

Sometimes teachers act like they're all superior and they don't want to be proved wrong, which I believe is wrong. I think that teachers should be role models and they should be open minded, even if they make mistakes, they should be willing to correct their mistakes and admit it. When I was a little girl, I took dance lessons and there was one young teacher who often pulled my hair (I always had my hair in ponytails) before I entered her classroom. Back then, I didn't know what was going on because I still was learning right from wrong. When I was in elementary school, this teacher took a piece of paper from my hands while I was reading it, so she could read it. She didn't ask if she could read the piece of paper, she took it off from my hands, which was rude!

I'm sorry you're going through this. I've been a teacher for more than 40 years, and my students are supposed to correct me. In fact, they get extra credit for it! I do know teachers who will not tolerate being questioned, and that's terrible. Nobody's always right. Please be sure you're very polite, not challenging in manner. If that doesn't work, ask for an appointment during the teacher's office hours, and make sure you bring at least one witness! Be as accurate as you can, citing not only the issue, but the time and date, as well as the lecture this was related to. If there's still a problem, or if the techer won't talk to you, try e-mail or a letter (retain copies), and send a copy to the dean of that department. Don't fall into the trap of becoming angry and sarcastic, as that will kill your case. I truly wish you luck. Someone like that is just too insecure to allow their made-up mind to be confused by the facts!

maby the teacher doesnt like you.sometimes when teachers do not like a studetn the could take it out on your grades.you should be wary
16 Jul 08
that's really unfair...i mean teachers should face the fact that even if they're "superior" from their students, they're just humans capable of making mistakes. also, life is an ongoing process of learning and we learn from what other people share so i don;t think that that teacher of your friend had any right to fail him.

good day.. that's a narrow-minded teacher. With today's generation, teachers sometimes can make a mistake and it should be ok to be corrected, if not then they're teaching ignorance rather than knowledge.

Teachers, ahhhh!! We just don't like teachers much, not with the horror stories we are hearing nowadays. This one, I heard from a friend, was about her kid's teacher in kindergarten. The boy is about 5 years old; and since the family speaks English at home, the child's English is good. One day, the teacher said something like 'you borrow her your book', and the child corrected her 'No, teacher, you should say, lend her your book'. The teacher told the kid to shut up; the little boy insisted that he's correct. So he was sent to stand in the corner of the room. He told his parents about this; and of course, the parents went to see the principal. I mean, teachers are human, they could be wrong...so what's so bad if a student corrects them? After all, nobody is perfect, and knows everything!

Yeah right! maybe some teachers feel insecure if they are being corrected by their student..also with their pride because they think that they are the ones supposed to teach not to be taught..by little kids...lol

Hmm well it seems to me that teacher is a bit too immature to be teaching at any school. If this is all it takes to piss the teacher off tell the school board and theyll luanch an investigation and hopefully your friends grade will be changed. You should kiss up to the teacher to get an autmatic A+ hehe.

There was this elderly teacher who were insisting something onto us her students. One of my classmates decided to speak up and tell her that what she were saying is something against what we commonly know, but she went on to insist that she was right. She even challenged us and brought a torn page from a book of an unknown author just to prove what she were saying. Still, we didn't believe her and she were mad at us. Well, we did fail her in her evaluation, so the next semester she was gone. I really don't like those kind of persons, forcing others to believe what is actually been explained before over and over again. Unless there is or there are substantial evidence, then I am ready to believe.

Oh I've experienced this first hand! It's very difficult to point out mistakes to professors in college because they all feel smart and accomplished. Unlike in high school, making mistakes is something natural in teachers. Anyway, if the professor cannot accept his mistake, then the best thing to do is just to drop the issue. Better be quiet than get on your teacher's wrong side.

Well because her ego was touched and hurt. The teacher should be a person who know what she is teaching and must be correct and accurate at that. She is being paid for that and hearing a student correct her belittles her status. Your classmate must have embarassed her in front of the class, she should rather have told her of her concern in a more discreet manner not bluntly. Maybe after the class hour, she could approach the teacher and tell about her concern in a very polite manner. Not in a way like questioning her credibility as a teacher. The teacher on the other hand has no right to give failing mark to a student who questioned her. That is not right, if I were your classmate I will bring the matter to the higher school authorities.
