Hi everyone!
I don't usually drink coffee. I only drink coffee during breakfast and its very seldom. Maybe just 2-3 times a week. I have noticed also that when I drink coffee it makes me wanna pee always. A lot of people I know who drinks coffee told me that too. Thats why as much as possible I don't drink coffee in the mornings if I have to go out of the house or go to work. I don't know if its just psychological but thats what I have observed after drinking coffee.
How about you mylotters. Any comment about this? What are its health benefits and do you experience often peeing after drinking coffee?

Yeah, coffee is a natural diuretic, meaning it does make you pee. Don't worry, it's not psychological, it is a natural, physiological response to the chemical makeup of the coffee and how it affects the human body. It's funny, because it doesn't matter if you only drink a little bit of it or a lot, it will still affect you in the same way (well, the extra caffeine might give you an extra jolt, but that's it). I don't know about any special health benefits of coffee other than the amount of caffeine found in it. However, I have read that for staying awake and alert, it is best to drink one or two cups of coffee and then drink water the rest of the day. This helps you to stay hydrated throughout the day.

For the past 10 years I have drank coffee, once in the morning and seldom again in the day, maybe once a week I would have another cup in the middle of the day. I never thought much of it, but I used to pee once about every 1-2 hours. I recently stopped drinking coffee altogether and guess what? I now pee AT MOST half as often. So where I used to pee 12-15 times a day, I now pee about 6. I amazed.

The effects of coffee or caffeine consumption on several aspects of kidney function have been studied.Athletes and physically active people are often recommended to abstain from consuming caffeinated beverages. It is assumed that caffeine, which is a mild diuretic, will exaggerate the dehydration and electrolyte loss caused by exercise and lead to impaired athletic performance or health although no scientific evidence is offered in support of this assumption.

Coffee has caffeine in it and caffeine causes you to pee more. The only health benefit from peeing that I can see is if you are peeing from drinking lots and lots of water. If it's clear, or nearly clear, you're doing a good job of drinking enough water. If it's yellow, you need more water.

ye, I did some research in the web about this subject (that's one of the reasons I love mylot, it makes me go and learn more..) and I have found out that there are even unprescription medications of caffeine as a painkiller and urinator. I guess it can be good for health just if you need to get rid of waste from your body real fast. but it is bad for the body too much of caffeine so I drink coffee especially when I want to eat cookies with something hot. but I drink too much cola from a young age and I think it can make you dehydration so for two cups of coffee you got to drink two glasses of water. nice day !

I don't know about coffee in relation to the frquency of peeing. But since coffee is an antioxidant, it can make you pee or pooh to release the toxins in your body.
As for me, I drink coffee everyday but i also drink water often. So I couldn't tell if there's a significant difference in the frequency to pee in drinking or not drinking coffee.
One thing for sure, when you pee after a cup of coffee, your pee smells good! ahahhaa. Smells like coffee. :-p [but of course! it doesn't look like coffee. I'll freak out]

It certainly does. It may not keep you awake at night if caffeine does not affect you that way, but you will have to go to the bathroom more often. Coffee does make you very alert and so is good in the morning. It also is good for diabetics and pre diabetics if it is drunk black with no sugar or cream. So my advice is to drink it in the morning, so that you are able to go to the washroom before you leave the house.

I think that is true of most berveages. Especially the ones that contain caffene. Some people even say that caffene is like a laxitive to them. I do notice that if im thirsty and drink water that doesnt happen.

I don't like coffee at all therefore I don't drink it, however, I drink Diet Pepsi Max. Some people drink coffee as a get up and go in the morning and that's the reason I drink Diet Pepsi Max sometimes during the day, to get me going. My usual choice of beverage during the day and late at night is Sprite Zero, but when I need a pick me up, I drink the Pepsi.
I have noticed that the Diet Pepsi Max has the same effect that coffee has on most people. I can't even get through a glass of it before I have to go pee. Max is supposed to have alot of caffeine and other stuff that is supposed to be good for you. All I know, is it works. lol
Have a great evening,
Char

I don't know if it would make you pee more but I know it it should make you poop. I think caffeine is a natural laxative of some sort. I would think the more caffeine you drank you would want to drink more of a a fluid to hydrate you and then you would have to pee more.

Because of the caffeine, coffee like tea has diuretic effect that makes us want to urinate more often compare if we dont drink coffee. But its not enough to make us dehydrate.

Yes - the caffeine in coffee is a diuretic, although not so much that you lose all of the liquid you've consumed. Coffee, colas, regular tea, even hot chocolate - all have caffeine and can have the same effect (although I suspect hot chocolate has other ingredients that keep it from being as obvious). So, if you're planning to be in a long meeting, it's probably best that you NOT have coffee just before.
