Gift Wrapping: Do you do it or you ask the shop?

If you do it, do you have creative ideas? I know only how to wrap a box. But if it's a circular box I can't get to be creative.

It's actually fun, Siddiqali. But if you got a friend with a shop and the talent/skill to do it then good for you.

I prefer to do it myself. I think it's fun. i like to get creative too. like put little toys & all kinds of ribbons & stuff. If it's a circular box or some i will just use a gift bag tho lol. i kinda cheat on the odd shaped boxes lol.

You're really creative, I can sense. Those little toys do accetuate the gift, itself eh?

I safely trust the shop to do it for me. Here creative idea is no big question but you need to invest some time to do that.

I know I have so much to learn about it. But you never know I can put it in my CV and get a job in the shop eh?

I gift wrap gifts myself. I'm a creative person, so it is something I enjoy doing. And beside, it saves money to do it yourself. I just fold the wrapping the way the box or circle is shaped.

Ah, that's another good idea. If the store will give me free boxes then it's absolutely fantastic.

Hello Jemina. Years ago, I was supposed to work at a gift-wrapping counter in a local shop. I was made to attend a small seminar and have a chance on hands-on training on basic gift wrapping. We were also taught how to make a special gift wrap. I do most of the gift wrapping. Not only does it save me time from having to wait in line at gift-wrapping counters but I feel that the gift is made much more special.

That's absolutely right, Jcj. I feel proud if I did wrap the gift myself. You should show me what you learned in that seminar.

I'd like to do it mysef, but am pretty lousy and land up making a mess of it. I'd rather the shop does it for in my selected gift wrapping material.

I'm not that good myself. I can only wrap the simplest one.

I wrap gifts myself. It is fun. I like picking the paper. One Christmas I could tell what was in the package by the type of paper I used. It made it easier to pick which gift should be opened next.The last Christmas/Hanukkah I spent with my mom, I spent 5 hours wrapping gifts. it was fun.

5 Hours? Wow, that was a whole lot of gifts, eh? Though it's nice to receive gifts but it feels nicer to give one, right?

I'm sure you are happier than the one who receive the gift because yours is a happiness that resulted in making others happy and it's so much fulfilling. That's really great if you can give anything everybody wanted to have.

It was the most gifts given ever for my family that year. It was perfect for me because for the first time I got everyone everything they wanted And I got everything I wanted. And yes, it is great to give the one thing they always wanted and watch the joy come when they open their gift.

I just let the shop to do it for me! But if I still have time I do it myself. I like to wrap it with ribbons on it. I don't wrap it with gift wrapping paper but a different paper. Something not common but elegant to look at it? Anyway have a nice day!

That's a good idea. I know the usual gift wrappers sometimes look boring. You're very creative, I suppose.

Well; I prefer to have the Gift Wrap done by the Shopkeeper himself or herself .
@Jemina (5770)

That is if they offer the service. Sometimes I buy the items and later realize that I actually wanted to give it to someone else. Then I would wrap it myself.

Picture of gifts that are wrapped - Here is a picture of beautifully wrapped presents
I never have it done at the store. I always wrap all the presents myself. My husband does not have a clue how to wrap so he always pays the people to wrap it. If the store does not offer gift wrapping then he puts it in a gift bag with pretty tissue paper. That is the easy way out for sure!

I find it very entertaining to do it myself. However, when a shop offers it for free I grab the opportunity but my purpose is to watch how they do it especially if it's a circular box.

Hi Usually I ask the shop to wrap the gift since I am not an expert in gift wrapping. But sometimes I will do this myself. The wrapping should be attractive when you give a gift to some body, especially on an occassion.

In Thailand most department stores do it for free but sometimes they rip you off with their wrapper and ribbons.

You could always put the circular box inside a square box or a gift bag. It's actually fun to put a small gift in a box and wrap it and put that in another box and wrap it and keep going up a few sizes.

That's a brilliant idea, Canellita. Why didn't I think of that? You're very clever! On the other hand, opening a box and finding another box and another box and another box is fun, I bet.

It's great with children and people who are hard to surprise. It's a good way to wrap jewelry and small items because the big box will keep the person guessing as to what the gift is.

Depends on if I have the time or not. Some people invite us at the last minute and I hardly have time to buy the gift...let alone wrap it. But for gifts I buy in advance...I usually wrap it myself..whatever the shape.

Hi Jemina, it mostly depends on the situation and mood. In case I have spare time I would like to wrap it myself. If the gifts are for my loved ones I would like to wrap them myself. It’s really fun to wrap gifts with a creative way. I believe my loved ones are fond to see gifts with special and unique wrapping from me. This shows that how I love and care of them. I have to prepare the gift rather earlier so that I could have enough time to get the stuffs for wrapping. If I don’t have considerable time I then would ask the sale girl of the gift shop to wrap for me. Happy posting and have a nice day!

It sure is special feeling to receive a gift especially wrapped by a special person. Where we come from in that part of the world, some shops do offer wrapping service for free. But here in the UK I think it's not free.

I do enjoy gift wrapping most of the time but if the store offers it free I usually get it :) A lot of times I'll rewarp the gift when I get home or jazz it up, but I always get my freebies :)

I am not good at wrapping. I tried it and it turns out a mess. I am too cheap to get the store to do it. What I do is to get those fancy decorating bags or bags made out of wrapping paper, and I just put the gift in. It makes it easier and it saves me on tape. And when I get a gift in a gift bag, I save the gift bag and use it another time. I am now just beginning to use them because I have more people to give presents to.
@Jemina (5770)

That's great, Suspenseful. I believe any person delights to receive a gift regardless of the wrapper. I think the bag is also a good idea because it can be recycled or reused. Two thumbs up!

Most department stores give gift wrapping, so I have it wrapped there. But I like wrapping gifts, and i am very particular on the feature, I want it neat, the edges well trimmed. But for easy gift wrapping even if it is a circular box, just prepare a hand made bag for the purpose. Any size will do to that hand bag made gift wrap.

I always do it myself. But that's also because I give gifts I make myself, or I make baskets with little things in it, so it's diffifult to ask in the shop. I'm a frugal person so I don't buy for the occassion, I will buy months in advance if I see a nice offer. That's another reason why it's hard to let it be done. I'm not very creative in gift wrapping, I'm glad I am in giving gifts, it's something at least. Have a nice day
