Saggy belly skin?

United States

I'm sure there are many other moms in the same boat as I am. It seems my belly skin never wanted to bounce back, even after my first child. I was young, age 17, and you'd think my skin would have bounced back on it's own, but no. Each child since has added to the saggy skin problem. I have so much extra skin that it's adding a good 2 or 3 inches to my waste line, and it's really embarassing. I have to wear long tops to cover that area, and cannot wear low riding pants because of it. I'm only 28, and I get so upset sometimes because I can't wear the clothes I'd like to due to my body. I've thought about surgery, but really don't want to go that route. I feel that after surgery, I'd only want more. My tummy isn't the only saggy area, just the one I'm most annoyed by. I've tried a few different creams, none of which seemed to do any good. So here are my questions.. 1. Does anyone else have this problem? It would be nice to know I'm not alone. 2. Have you found any over the counter creams or pills that seem to be helping? 3. Do you have any sort of advice to help me cope with this or fix the problem?

I too have the same problem, I had my son when I was 17. I have A LOT of extra skin. I have consulted a lot of different doctors...and the result is always the same, they are quite honest, there is no way to get rid of that extra skin except to have it removed surgically. Here there is no motivation for them to say that, as it is covered under saskatchewan health care. They get no more money by telling me this. Once the skin is streached it is streched. I didn't want to have to have surgery either, but the more I investigate the more I try cream after cream and excersize after excersize, I am realizing that it may indeed be the only option, they are right! Best of Luck :)

I believe there must be something we can do short of surgery, we just haven't found it yet.

I had 4 kids in 2 1/2 years ( a set of twins in the middle). I have come to face the facts that my stomach will never look like it did before kids. Unless I want to have plastic surgery it will probably always look like it does now. I am sure with exercise it would get a little better but I am not willing to have a tummy tuck...at least not now. I have heard it is horrendous!!! I love my kids so much ...I just think if that is what it takes to have them then give me a little saggy belly.

I think exercising will be the best solution for tightening the loose skin. I don't have this problem yet since I'm quite young, but I'm sure I'll have it once I give birth! Yikes! Another reason to have only one baby... Anyway, cosmetic surgery will also do the trick. And if you fear going under the knife, there are stretch mark creams available in the market, although these don't always work or the process is soo slow! Good luck to you!

I was 19 and didnt have that problem. But my friend was 17 when she had hers and hers was like you are describing. i think it has to do with genes and stuff. She can never really get hers to tighten no matter what she does and she has lots of stretch marks where as I did not have one.

I have lots of stretch marks too, but that doesn't bother me at all. The only one who sees them is my husband, and they don't bother him. What bothers me is the skin, because it's noticable, even with clothes on.

same thing happened to me, i've tried it all, kudos to bio oil and also to nivea skin firming moisturizer, both have worked magic on both the stretch marks and sagginess. i weighed 90 lbs when i got pregnant and 160 by the end of pregnancy, then lost it all in 6 months, which would be great except that it worsened the stretch marks and saggy belly so yeah

I am 24 and have 2 kids. youngest is 7mos. I am using Trilastin SR and it is really helping. It is getting rid of the stretchmarks and has really tightened the skin. It will never be like it was before baby #1 but anything is better than the way it was after baby #2.

Thanks for the input on the creams. My wife has had two kids and is 27. She is not fat but says she is because she has the excess skin from the pregnancies. It is by no means very much though and it does not bother me. It bothers her a bunch. She wants a tummy tuck and a boob lift. Maybe I can pass the idea of the cream onto her. Any suggestions on how to do it without getting into trouble (if you know what I mean)?

Very smart man on the not wanting to get in trouble! I would say the most tactful way to go is to wait until she brings it up again. The next time she starts talking about surgery and how she hates her belly mention the Bio Oil you read about. I think that should be a safe way to go.

LOL...I have an x-rated way to do it. You buy it, tell her it's 'special' lotion and then you rub it on her 'trouble areas' at least once a day . By the time the bottle is gone I bet she'll be feeling A LOT better about her body.

luckily for me, i didn't have any stretch marks, even after giving birth to a big baby (and i, being petite at that). during my pregnancy, i really made an effort to religiously apply creams rich in vitamin E on my belly. moreover, i think genetics play a big part with skin problems such as yours. i have read somewhere that whatever cream or product you apply on your belly for attempts to prevent or correct stretch marks, you really can't do anything about it if it's heredity that dictates your skin's condition. i think you cannot totally get rid of such stretch marks, but you can do something to at least improve it. i suggest you try doing crunches and sit ups, or better yet go to a trusted dermatologist. good luck!

I know what you mean my stomach is so gross. My youngest is 1 and I would never wear a bikini again b/c of how my stomach looks I read the other post and I am going to try the bio oil to make it where it looks alot better without the stretch marks. I love my kids but I don't want the marks from being pregnant with them. I have pictures to remind of it.

I have been loosing weight and gaining lots of loose skin, and that is bothering me a lot too, and I have been thinking I will just need to go see a surgeon one of these days, but I am hoping I don't have too. I have had several children plus gained a lot of weight so maybe that is why I am having so much trouble with loose skin, it makes me feel like I have sails or something,. and is just not good. I keep thinking if I just do enough exercise the skin will strink but so far I have not seen that happen, I have heard drinking lots of water is good for your skin maybe that is true but I don't really know. Anyway, I hope that you are able to tone up your skin before it gets any worse, I have very loose skin and it makes it very hard to find decent clothing

Your skin is a fascinating organ. If you cut it, it will heal itself. If you burn it, it will eventually heal, leaving only a few scars. If you stretch it, it is capable of bouncing back into place. Oddly enough though, ours won't. I find it hard to believe that such an amazing organ will NEVER bounce back into place. I guess we just need to learn the right things to do to make it healthy enough to firm up again.

Do a search for exercise for saggy bellies. They gave me exercises to help build up my stomach muscles are my c-section, but it has been so long I can't remember any of it except you get down on all fours. I guess that could be your starting point.

A little of sagginess can be very beautiful and mature. Any unwanted and excess can be got done through plastic surgery.

Try some sit up and get more muscle to fill it out. I don't think there is much you can do but firm it up a bit.

I'd need a lot of muscle to fill out 2-3 inches of loose skin!

yes sometimes it's hard to get rid of something ones its genetic. but i believe that no matter what the case is genetic or not, maybe you can consult a cosmetic surgeon or just dermatologist... but stress to them you don't want any surgery. Maybe they can give you recommendation, eating diets, exercise to do... or maybe they have other stuff that help you get of those extra skins without surgery. Consult and expert.

I can sympathize with you. I had a child at age 35. I am now forty. I was thinking that because of my age, that might be the reason for my stomach being little rubbery or saggy. It could be worse. I don't like the stretch marks. I try to put some moisturizer on if I can. I thought there was a special cream in the stores like the pharmacy that had some cocoa butter creams. You are definitely not alone. Sometimes it is just one of those things that come with motherhood. Good luck.

I am going to be totally honest, I was lucky. I was wearing a bikini the summer after my oldest was born...and I wore it again two summers later a month after my son was born...and I even managed to get into after my third. BUT...after baby #6 my skin was tired of stretching and bouncing back. I almost have my weight back to where I used to be (20 months later) but I have a lovely roll of skin that just flops over the top of my pants, especially when I sit. Even as I was typing this I couldn't help but give it a little pinch to make sure it hadn't magically disappeared over night. It's frustrating to me because I'm really petite and have a short torso...meaning there's not a huge space between my hips and ribs so I have to wear low rise jeans. Sometimes mid rise are low enough but any higher than that and I'm practically tucking my chest into my pants when I sit LOL. Anyway, low rise pants hit below my roll so I can't wear shirts that are slim fitting....what was the whole point of getting back into shape if I can't show it off! Ugh! I have stretch marks across my belly, level with my belly button, if I grab my loose skin there I can pull it down over my belly all the way to my bikini line...that's a lot of skin! I'll have to look into the Bio Oil. That sounds cheap enough and even if it doesn't help with the skin, I could use it for some scars.

I picked some up today at Walmart. Just a hint... it's near the band-aids. I had a heck of a time finding it. But at Walmart it's about $11 and some change. I wouldn't spend that much money on a product if I hadn't heard that it worked. I hope it works on the saggy skin, but if all it does is clear up stretch marks, I'll be happy with that. No sense trying to get better abs if I still have stretch marks, right?
