Another discussions I just read triggered this one, I know as a Country we have lots of faults but our good things outnumber the bad, and I will be darned if I will let some mylotter make me think 'I am an awful person because I am an American. blame the one person who said something insulting, not our whole country. mylotters do you agree or disagree? am I wrong to be proud to'be an American?

You just have to overlook this person. I do it constantly on a list I'm on. This one guy from another country can tell US more about our country than we know ourselves. He knows who does wrong in the government, how bad our country is, and don't mind telling us. We have never even brought up the subject of his country, yet he continues to belittle ours. I have said something to him before has another guy, and he'll stop for awhile, and then, after a time,it starts right back up. I think these kind of people are looking for a reason to say America is a bad country. Really has nothing to do with you personally. But I understand where you are coming from. Sometimes I just want to reach out and 'touch' that guy on the noggin!

Many times we let things like this bother us. And the offender has said their piece and moved on, never giving you or anyone else a thought. That's how the enemy works - tell you off and move on. They don't care if you got hurt. They just want to be the one that tells you how wrong you are, among other things. It's up to us whether we take the offense or not.

Well I always liked America for being the land of opportunities, for it's freedom of the press , freedom of speech, and the people's right. It is the head of the state who is responsible for the reputation of a country at any given time.America will definitely over come the bad phase and no one has the right to stand in your way of being proud of an American.

I live in Canada and I can say just as many bad things about Canadians. We love snow too much, we always line up in queues even when there is no need to, we always complain about Americans, we think that getting caught in a blizzard is much better than being carried off by a tornado or sitting on the roof of our house while the Mississippi river floods our land, etc. I have a hard time convincing my husband and his sister that Americans are not bad. I love Americans. They have a get up and go and are hard working, and do not think of ways to not work as many Canadians do. So you are not wrong to be proud to be American.

No place, like no one, is perfect. We can all sling mud about everything. Even in Utopia - what place needs that many vowels in such a short name. I have been blamed for many things because I am an American. Just a few weeks ago, I went to the doctor, she asked me about my employment history. Then wanted to know why I lost my job at almost 23 years in one company, I did not want to say well my job was off-shored to people in your country (since it obviously was not her fault) I just said I lost my job as part of a resource action. I did not see any point in making her feel umcomfortable. I am an American and am proud. I did time in the Army, I have a son in the Navy, and a step-son in the Air Force. We do make mistakes - letting good jobs go to other countries is definitely one of them but I would not leave here.

I don't believe there are Discussions like that again Every Country has its fault it does not mean that the People are bad to I really get angry when People here attack America because something happened that has nothing to do with the People like yourself and you carry on being proud Sweet because all the American Friends I have are wonderful and I am honored and proud to have them as my Friends Hugs

I know, some of the people starting these discussions are on my friends list and are from a country (that I will not mention) where my direct ancestors come from. I think all countries have their flaws and negatives as well as positive. I don't like the generalization that I've been seeing about America especially from people in countries that really aren't that different than ours. But, they have a right to their own opinion like the first person said. I choose not the answer those discussions and move on.

No you are not. If I am an awful person it is because of my character not my nationality. However I have not noticed much American bashing lately. About a year and a half ago we went through a very bad period of everyone and their brother bashing Americans then finally they got bored and moved on when no-one rose to the bait anymore.

Yes, America does have a lot of faults as you say, but there are still many good things about the USA. Even though the USA is responsible for a lot of bad things in the world, I'd still rather live there than in China, India or Russia.

I am with you...I am darn proud to be an American~! Every country has it's problems...and I am sick and tired of bashing and b*tching that is done by everyone that doesn't agree with something that goes on! it's still the best place on earth to live.....we have an abundance of material things that others can't even come close to enjoying....we have freedom of choice...freedom of religon....and a hundred...no thousand other things going for us. I recently heard someone complaining that they were poor.....Poor? They live in a nice house...drive two newer cars...have more then enough food on the table....clothes up the gazoo....so I said....you are not poor....you are over extended....anyway enough of my ranting......I still and always will be Proud to be an American!

While you are right to have your opinion, and to feel proud if you so desire. But, on the flipside, that person also has the right to their opinion Think about this...remember when the French government said they didn't want to fight in Iraq?Do Americans condemn those government officials? Nope, we condemn the entire population of France. Silly, isn't it?

fwidman it was the way this person said it as though all of us had insulted this one person in another discussion not just the real person who did it.I did not insult anyone, so why lump me in this way? I know all about each person has a right to his own opinion but when I am put in that opinion it makes me angry.

I think a person cannot be judged just by the countries she/he comes from. You love your country and you must accept the fact that,as you said,"we have a lot of faults".You must also know,a great country always makes progress at the back of misunderstanding and critisism. The only thing one can do is to have a positive attitude and to help her/his own country improve, not just to weep for it.

Each country has lots of faults not one can be deemed much lesser...but no matter how bad ones country is in regards to the ones who rules it...the natives should love their country and make each a better place to live in. Yes you are right...blame it on the person and not the country.

Hi Hatley Though i'm not an American let me explain how many people in the world think. If one foreigner does something wrong or a group foreigners or refugees everyone looks at all foreigners and refugees as if they all are bad. Same in our country one loves america other hate america.I think your government is not that good but in every country there's a bad government. In every country there are good and bad people every refugee could be good or bad but people always point their finger at the whole community.I know some americans and i love them they are my friends. It's not wrong to be proud of you country keep on being proud because the good people in America makes the country proud. And don't mind others they just need to critisize countries. Its not all America they talk about africa asia they talk about every country they can talk about. I hope you feel better after reading my message.I think you're a great person becayse you're American. Cheers on that.

Doesn't that just irk you? I read a discussion the other day where the guy was talking about how horrible we are. I just ignored it and went on because I am an American and proud to be so. This guy said that he was from Iraq but I'm not blaming the entire country because he said something that i consider stupid! There is no doubt that as a country we have our share of problems but then again so does every other country.

Dear Hatley. I am Irish and I live in Germany, so let's say that I am a neutral outsider. My opinion is that a country is made up of it's people. The American people are a fine people. They have given much to the world and their society has many qualities, which Europe can learn from, most especially the fact that people can go back to work after they have reached retirement age. This is unheard of in Europe. At the other end of the age spectrum, young businesses and ideas are looked favorably upon, whereas here we say: "it's not what you know, but who you know!" So, I say, continue to be proud of your country, but most especially the American people, who make up the society. All the best from Cologne. UMart
