I think this has happened to all of us, me included. I think what's most embarrassing is that no one tells us! I'm always grateful to the person who tells me, but then I sit and wonder how many others saw (laughed) and said nothing? Funnest was when I was a kid and told my dad that his fly was open. He response was "If that's all I've got to worry about today, then I've got it made." I think the same question could apply to having something hanging from our nose, food left on our face or clothes, dryer sheet sticking out of a sleeve or pant leg, etc.
