I think tears are more important than smiles because smiles can be given to anybody but tears are only shed for those we cant afford to lose.
Also smiles signify happiness and many people will be with us in happiness but tears are symbolic of distress and few dare to hold hands of the falling. we are more likely to remember someone who was with us when we were crying alone than those with whom we shared our happiness.
Tears convey extreme emotions maybe that of pain or grieving or yearning or missing.they are with a person in the hour of separation when everyone else is leaving and they are with us in pain. What do you think?

well dear i would still prefer smiles ..i love to see and make people smile and happy...i would never want anyone to cry because of me however i would be very happy if i can bring a smile to a crying and sad person..smile actually has magical effects even if you smile at a complete stranger 99% they will smile back to you...

Ok dear I take that but I am talking here of inevitable situations.Of course no one will like to see someone cry but think of the situation when two friends are separating not to meet again. Here tears will glorify their friendship and commemorate the moment as a countersign of affection. They would love to remember that moment throughout their lives. But I fear it would not have been so had they departed with smiles. Now do you agree?

wow that is a great topic for a discussion after i read what you wrote i thought about it and you make alot of sense in what you are saying, maybe it is the fact that one never sits down and actually thinks about it. But i agree with what you wrote tears are more important.

Thank you very much for giving importance to my words.I thought to start a discussion on the topic because as i looked back i found that the times of distress and cries brought me close to many people and now give me courage and strenght.

Have you ever heard of "crocodile tears" those are phoney tears that one cries when they want to come off as being sincere. Have you ever heard of a phrase "smiling on the outside but crying on inside", this is for those people who want us to believe that they are ok but actually there not. See, just because a person cries doesn't mean he's sincere all the time but of course for the most part they are and just because a person is smiling, doesn't mean they are happy or stress free.
Almost everyday I come to work and greet people with a smile, but at the same time my heart is heavy because of situations going on in my family so you never know.

True my friend, very true. But I am talking here of smiles and tears that are real and deep from the heart.I know how the heart grieves when you have to smile even when bidding farewell to someone you cant let go of.

i would choose both because you can smile even though tears run down smoothly to your cheeks. it is what we call tears of joy and that is what i have always felt when my boyfriend and i became a couple. i cry too whenever i miss my boyfriend too much. i smile when i see him, even when he is away staring at up the ceiling thinking about him makes me smile. only my boyfriend gives me tears of joy and creates a smile on my face.

i respect your feelings and true that the people that we love the most control our emotions. When they are away their memories torment us and just a sight or voice of them gives pleasures that no material thing could have given. It is just their name which gives smiles when it comes from others' mouths and tears when it comes from our own.

Hi,very right you are but we are considering here the people whom you want to show your emotions and feelings not those from whom you want to hide them. You are right that we should keep smiling always but for some people who are more than special to you smiles seem ordinary.Their worth can only be accounted for by tears.Good day.

Simple but nice topic.
For me I will choose the two.
Sometimes we need to cry so that tears will washout all the dirt in our eyes.
Sometimes we need to cry just to express our sad feelings.
sometimes we cry because we hurt.
We smile because we are happy.
We smile because of the special feelings we felt.
We smile because we don't have worries.
we smile because we solved problems.
Cry sometimes so that tears will clean your eyes and smile
so that you can feel the beauty of life.

I think a smile is sweet-it makes your world radiant worthy-but lets not forget there are both tears of pain and tears of joy-the tears of joy are equally sweet tears!

For me, I think both smiles and tears share the same importance. Life is not complete without one of them. But if I am given a choice, of course I will choose to smile. Like what you have said here, smiles signify happiness. I am sure there is no one wants to be sad. But some how tears are inevitable in life. Sometimes we can also cry out when we are too happy about something. Maybe when there is one day, smiles and tears come to signify our happiness in certain incident, that would be so perfect.

I found it both important. Because for me it's always part of being a human. But I smiles a lot, coz I hate to be lonely. I hate to see crying because if it could be possible,I don't want to see anybody crying. It really hurts you know. Both have important roles. No one is less important!

i love to smile and i love to see people smile so for me to see tears is sad it would just make me feel sad..
so i feel a smile is the greatest gift we can give a sad person to cheer them up..
i have always said "SMILE AND THE WHOLE WORLD SMILES WITH YOU"
i prefer the smiles and i think they are more important than tears..
great discussion

Smiles are more important to me. It is a symbolism o joy, peace, and tranquility. I do cry sometimes because it is also good for the body. But smiles can paint a thousand words, it can make a person feel good when he is under stress. I am not totally agree with tears, for I still approve tears of joy. But excessive crying may wear down the heart. On the other hand, keeping a smile make yous and others' day brighter.
