I have never been one to like pearls. I only have one piece that has pearls in it and it is a gold rope bracelet with pearls between the twisted gold. Well today I learned that when cultivating pearls in the new shapes that are becoming popular they take out the big pearl by digging it out and then they put the poor critter back in the water and the pearl that grows in that hole is a distorted shape due to them gauging out the big pearl. I find that horrible. I know that they raise the critters to take thier pearls but still it just seems cruel to me. Maybe I am alone in this. How do you feel?

That's absolutely terrible!!! I never really liked pearls either. Thanks for sharing this with us here on MyLo. Hopefully it will educate a lot of people, and less of these cruelly made pearls will be sold, in the years to come. It's shocking what people will do to sell something/

Oh My that is terrible. I am not into expensive jewelry at all though. The only thing I have that is even gold is my wedding band. Like you, now I know why.

Yes, its very cruel indeed.
But it's the same way that human
kill, pigs, cows, chicken, goats, fish
for human consumption. I've seen how our
neighbors kill the pig for our baranggay
fiesta. It's an annual celebration and pigs
are the prime victims of slaughter. It's
horrible seeing the knife digging in to the
pigs neck. It's almost nightmare. It taken
me few months before i was able to eat pork
again. Pearls are like pigs, people lack of
compassion sometimes is due to the fact that
they are doing it almost everyday.

I am with you it is cruel. That is not a normal way as far as I am concerned to manage to get a different shape for a pearl. The clams are living breathing and feeling creatures and don't deserve that. You are not alone in your feelings. I agree with you.

Yes, I have also heard about the process of making pearls. It is really cruelty & terrible. But we cann't do anything in this process, coz it is going on from many years. People like pearls. Its business is & will never down.

I have always loved pearls , and wore some to my prom and I want to my wedding . They have to be more on an illusion necklace . I like the white ones best . That does sound cruel what they do
