Do You Go To the Movies or Rent Videos?

My husband and I went to the movies tonight to see "Hancock". I actually enjoyed myself very much. I had no seat kickers sitting behind me and the movie was better than expected. However, it is a rare occasion that we actually go to a movie. In our area, movies are over ten dollars a person. We often opt to stay home and get a movie from Video On Demand. It's still cost money, but we have a big screen tv so it's worth spending the $4.99 per movie as opposed to going out, spending money on gas, popcorn and tickets which could run up to forty bucks. Do you prefer seeing a movie in the theater or would you rather stay home and rent a movie?

My boys went to see "Hancock" too. They like to get together and go to a movie once every few months. Normally we rent from Redbox. It's a machine in the grocery store where you can order a new release on a touch screen, swipe your credit card, and the DVD pops out of the machine. If you bring it back the next night, it will only charge your credit card $1.00 and then an extra dollar for each additional night you have it out. Unfortunately, my son forgot he had one in his bedroom that was not returned in awhile. I called to see how long we had it and they told me 20 days, which means $20. I could either take it back and be charged $20, or keep it another 5 days and own it for $25. I guess we'll just keep it, although he really didn't like the movie enough to watch it again. Maybe I can sell it on Ebay, but it doesn't come with the original case, just a clear plastic one that says Redbox on it.

I've seen that Redbox movie dispenser in the grocery store. I didn't realize it was really that cheap though. A Dollar is really pretty good to see a relatively new movie.

It's not often I go to the theatre anymore because, as you said, it's gotten a bit ridiculous with the pricing. But if it's a movie I really want to see, I'll go to the theatre to see it. And when I do, I always try to go to the matinee when it's cheaper. In fact, our movie theatre has what they call the early bird, which is usually the first showing of the day. My mom and I went to see Mamma Mia! today and it was half what we would have paid if we had waited until tonight. If it's a movie that I'm so-so about, then I'll wait until it comes out on DVD and add it to my Netflix list.

A lot of time we go to matinees because they tend to be cheaper, but now they really aren't much cheaper than the regular tickets.

I rent a movie most times, but if I'm really looking forward to a film and don't want to wait. If you go to the first show on any weekday it's only $5. That's not so bad!

I would rather go out and get the whole experience. It always seems like a movie is better - funnier, scarier, or more romantic on the big screen. Plus when it's so hot, it gives us something to do for a little relief and the kids feel like it is something special. I want to see Ma Ma Mia so badly!

There's definitely a difference when seeing a movie on the big screen in a theater. I hadn't been to a movie in a while. I guess that's why I enjoyed it so much tonight.

my son and i enjoy going to the movies together and we also get dvd's from the library as they are free. we do not always have the money to go to the movies so we catch up on what we missed by going to the library and getting some dvd's. also i have a friend that lends them to us from time to time too.

Mmm,I like to go to the cinima if I have enough time. But because I have a lot to study I often watch films on the internet.Seldom I rent some videos because I find the DVDs of the video rent shops in my city are often very old and it seems that they don't renew them regularly.

We almost always get out movies from the library so it's free :) It's just easier to watch at home too. You can eat whatever is in the house and you can pause or rewind the film if you have to and we don't have to get a babysitter. It is nice to watch in a theater every once in a while but we really only do that when we get free passes to a movie.

I don't do movie theaters any more, I'd rather stay home and order a movie, I can even tape it if I want so someone else can see it. No babies screaming, no phones ringing, no one kicking my seat, no big fat heads sitting in front of me, I can stop the movie for a bathroom break or to get some munchies. That's the movie I have been thinking of seeing, it seems to be getting some good reviews.

Watching movies in home is private and sound enough .We can enjoy the movie personally and can understand every dialogues and every scene. And it is also saving of little money. Watching in theatre is very funny and entertaining .We can enjoy the movie with huge mass .The sound is clear and video too. Every dialogues are clear enough to understand and especially it is for the big team but single can enjoy too. I enjoyed going movies in the theatre but nowadays I enjoy the movie in home this depends on mood and time

I like going to the movies, but don't go much anymore. It costs way too much! I did get to go see "Hancock" the other day. We went to the matinee, so it didn't cost as much. But one drink and one order of pretzels was just shy of $10! Thats too much! So needless to say I prefer to stay home and watch a movie simply because of the cost!

We'd rather watch movies at home, it's a lot cheaper than going out to the theaters. Sometimes when you go to the theater, even if you're not hungry, you eat, because there's popcorn and drink and food is expensive there. While you can do these at the comfort of your home and the whole family will enjoy. And you can even watch the movie as long as you want.

I prefer seeing a movie on the big screen. But it is rare that I go. It is expensive and probably dirty. If the floor is sticky then you know nothing gets cleaned. Why do you think they keep it so dark? And who knows what the person before you did. Then you have the people factor. There are many possibilities. Cell phones ringing and the people who actually answer them and talk. People talking, throwing things and just being ignorant. When I saw Men In Black so many years ago someone actually said what was going to happen. That was a major scene because I don't put up with BS. The usher came and I told him how it was going to be. Needless to say they were quiet the rest of the movie. It is a shame that you have to threaten to hurt someone before they will act like they have some sense. Now the risk factor versus cost is not worth paying $10-$25 to see a movie. I start it out at $10 because you have to get the theater. Then the over priced drinks and snacks add up. So I don't go very often. We rent a lot of movies. We just watched Jumpers. It was pretty good. You can't beat the privacy of your own home. Now last year during the summer we went to the drive-in theater. I forgot all about it this year until Batman came out. Then I saw it this weekend at the drive-in with Journey to the Center of the Earth. To see 2 new movies at a price equal or lower than going to the movie theater. I think I am going to go a couple times a month now that I remembered.

Today my parents took me and my fiance out for my fiances birthday which was last Tuesday, and she had the choice to either go to the movie theater if there was a movie she wanted to see,or go to the video store, and rent a couple movies, she decided to go to the movie store, which I think was a good choice, because my parents got six great movies for the price of what one would have cost at the theater,so I would say I much rather stay at home and rent a movie on DVD because not only is it cheaper but it is more convenient if you ask me.

you see, it actually depends on the amount of time you have in hand. if ample, then you can go to movies. it has the added benefit of enjoying the company of friends. but with torrent sites now available, you can easily download movies free of cost. watch them at your leisure hour. also most of the classics which are old ones not available in the theatres can be watched. so off late, my visits to a theatre are on a decline. bye and happy my lotting.

I like going to the movies and renting as well but I believe I like going out more. But now that you've broke down the price of movie tickets, gas, getting food, etc...maybe I will stay home more often lol.
