Do you Respond to Discussion through the Link in your Email?

I respond to alot of discussion through the link that comes in the email I get alerting me that my friend has started a new discussion.
But when I do it that way, it takes me right to the response box, and I don't have a chance to read the other responses first to see if anyone else already said I what I was going to say.
Other times I see the email and try to find the discussion topic on Mylot but it's hard to find so I go back and do it through the email anyway.
Do you find this to be a problem?

yeah it drives me crazy because i will answer via link in email and then i will see im the 400th person to say the exact same thing.. i think they need to figure out a better way of doing it.. its nice but not when its something that everyone would know and repeat over and over again

All they need to do is add a "view the entire discussion" link in the email too.

I respond to discussions that way. It's funny because there was one time when my response was exactly the same thought as the lady who replied before me. That's because I didn't have a chance to read the other responses.

Hi momalisa,
I always respond in my notification/email..I want it this way so that I can really track my friends post and will not miss it!
But, if there are pictures attached, I will give a second response after I posted the other one or just comment in the picture being attached.
Whenever, there is a link and it is necessary before answering to the post, I will go to " friends started" and look there, check and read the link before I will drop my response!

Yeah, exactly, even i face the same problem, i directly go to the respond column, and i dont have a chance to see what others have written, but the main thing is, when some1 posts pics, i cant see them in the mail, so i have to drop that discussion, as i cant find it again in mylot discussions, unless its very new.

I don't really have my notifications on for my friends new discussions.
I have a lot of friends now and I wouldn't be able to read them all.
But I have tried it once and I see what you are talking about. The
feature gives you one advantage though, that is being unbiased.
Because you haven't read the responses, you are responding on your
own and not basing your response on the responses of others. I think
you can respond more free when you respond from the link.
Have a nice day!

I have a lot of friends as well, and still keep my alerts on. I try to answer discussions that I can give some unique insight to, and so I do not find that I duplicate people too much.

I do respond to a discussion from my email lots of times, in fact, right now. But I had never really thought about the fact I'm unable to read the other replies before responding by doing that. And, I do think the FAQ mentions reading all responses before adding our 'two cents'. Yet, they have set it up this way. What are we to do? I guess we can always resort to looking at the 'friends started' on the tab and find the discussions that way, or perhaps in 'our interests'. I know I always read the other comments once mine goes through. Maybe this is one other thing that they need to fix. Just have a link to the full discussion, not just the article written. That way we might be able to make a better response.

Yeah, when I have my friends notification on, that's exactly what I do. I like getting the notifications because, like you said, some friends' discussions get buried and I would not see them otherwise. But, like you also said, it does create a dilemma. I think in the guidelines it says to read through all the other posts before posting your own response. But, you can't if you respond straight from the e-mail. I am always worried that I am repeated what someone else said.

it is my habit to respond discussions from my email notifications this will allow me to go through the post of my friends under my list and to observed them also if they are active in posting here. i am more concern on my friends discussions but sometimes if i have enough time i will check discussions from my interest not my email notifications.

Nah, I just put my few lines in and call it good. I guess if you wanted to go through and read the responses you could but then you'd be thinking about what other people wrote and that might edit your original response. Or, you could just knee jerk react and wait for their reply. Stop me if you've heard this one before.

Hi there momalisa65
I have just done exactly the same thing. As you can see I am new to mylot and I replied to a friends discussion without reading previous comments and have repeated what someone else has already, how daft does that make you look? I will now go direct to the discussion and work it out from there. I am glad I not the only to have made that error LOL.
Have a good day!
