I like adding salt to my food but not things like my coffee, puddings, or cakes.
I just never heard of that this is the first time of me hearing of that one and very interesting each to his/her own I guess. I think that today our food already comes with enough salt ( sodium ) in it. But I do find it interesting how your grandmother does it the way she does.

I add salt to savory dishes but not sweet things, for instance when I steam my veggies, I usually drizzle olive oil and roughly ground sea salt, other seasonings, garlic, pepper. I add salt to meats when I'm cooking them, potatoes, pasta, rice, noodles, etc. I do not add salt to fruit, desserts (unless a recipe calls for salt) or drinks such as tea, soda, juice, or coffee.
