I'm reading a new Stephen King Book "The Dark Half" it has taken me until almost the middle of the book to get into it and I almost put it away but kept on reading and it finally started to get interesting. How long do you read if a book doesn't immediately grab your attention? I love to read but it has to grab me pretty quickly or I'll put it down...lol Anybody read any other "Grab your attention quickly books?" Have An awesome day all. :)

Wow, I got to tell you what a coincidence! I have read some good King books in my day. It's been a while, but I remember a long time ago reading "The Dark Half". What a thick book it was. And as a matter of fact, when I first picked it up I wasn't into it at first because it seemed too long. One day I picked it back up and then couldn't put it down! That was one of the best books I ever read. Stephen King is a great writer. Misery and The Talisman are other great reads by this author.

I'm not reading any grab your attention quickly books right now, but I will say that whether I will keep reading a book that doesn't grab my attention depends on a couple of factors. First, has someone given the book to me or suggested that I read it because they had enjoyed it. If so, then I will put in the effort to read it because that person generally expects to discuss it with me someday and I don't want to say that I decided to give up on it. Second, if the book was written by an author whose other works I have enjoyed, I will be more likely to keep reading in the hope that the book will grow on me slowly. If it is by an author that I have not read before, I would be more likely to stop if it didn't capture my attention.

Just recently, I finished a book entitled, "The Shack." This is an excellent story which gets you thinking about reality and about The Father, The Son and the Holy Spirit. It is sad, it is funny and it is extremely inspirational. I do read a lot of books at the same time, so I would have to list them on my website as there are too many. I also sell a great deal of books on E-bay, but because of the changes in some of their policies regarding seller and buyer relationships, I have decided to start selling my books on my website store. I am setting this up in the next couple of days, so watch out for this at Lighthouse Marketing and Publishing (http://davebrown64.info.)
God Bless and God Speed.

I think it depends on what kinds of books i read.If they are on subjects,i will not stop until finish reading them, most of them can't grab my attention immediately.Apart from them, books such as novels, storybooks, fairy tales,if there is no interesting grab me before reading half of them,i will give up.
Personally,"Pride and Prejudice" is one of my favorite book,i have read it for four times, there is so much humor and intelligence in it,and grab me for each reading.

I'm reading a book called Rosslyn: Guardian of the Secrets of the Holy Grail. Rosslyn is a medieval chapel in Scotland with connections to six other chapels throughout Europe that were all built upon former Druid sites and have geometric alignment with one another matching, in some way, astronomical bodies. They are also all connected with the Crusades as well as the Illuminati and Freemasonry. It's a little hard to read - very "academic", so the going is slow right now. But, it is interesting what I've read. I won't say I understand all of it, but if I can understand any of it, I think I'll be better off for it.

I usually don't have the patience to wait until halfway through a book for it to get interesting. If a book doesn't have me within the first 50 pages or so, I usually give up on it. There are always plenty of other books to read.

At present, I am reading "Think and grow rich" by Napoleon Hill. This book is on positive mental attitude that guides one to effective and real money making within a good social structure along with successful personality management. You must read this book I hope. Thanks for this nice posting!

I miss reading books other then the kids books I read to my kids lol. I use to read a book a month or sometimes less depending on how much I liked the book. I couldn't put them down sometimes. I would like to start going to the library soon but I'm worried that my kids will tear up the books and try and eat them.

Some books take more than the first few chapters to really grab my attention..and being so impatient, I'd leave these books aside , and move onto others that seem more interesting. I'd eventually come back to these books, and once I'm hooked, I'll try to get to the last pages as soon as possible (to know the ending!)
There are a few books that grabbed my attention immediately or at least from the first chapter - Da Vinci Code (Dan Brown), The Empty Chair (Jeffery Weaver), most of Ed McBain's 87 Precinct stories and Sherlock Holmes stories.

I usually give a book at least 50 pages and then decide if it's worth my time.
I love Mystery Thrillers but Stephen King is a little too scary for me. I really like James Patterson, Dean Koontz although he can be really off the wall with some of his books. I also like Catherine coulter, Patricia Cornwell and I have some Harlan Coben that I'm hoping to check out soon. I've heard he is really good. Have you read any of Coben's? Richard North Patterson is also good. Most of those authors are a sure bet.

I just got done reading "1984" by George Orwell. The book really hit hard especially with todays current events. A lot of the topics discussed in the book about oppression apply directly to a lot of laws and ideas that politicans are pushing forth in today's political world... Pretty scary
I am now reading "The Zen of Zombie" by Scott Kenemore. Its a comical self help book about how to improve your life by acting more like a zombie. Its actually pretty interesting despite the comical tone

I am reading Traitors Moon by Lynn Flewelling, which is an awesome fantasy book.
It depends on the book, how long I will read it--I don't really like to quit books, so I usually read them all the way through no matter how bad--now if the book is really really bad then I won't bother with more than a chapter or two. One book I cannot get into is The Witching Hour by Anne Rice--I love her other novels and they say Lasher is really good, but to get to Lasher you have to go through The Witching Hour which I haven't been able to yet--And I have tried a couple of times. Maybe I will get it as an audio book and listen to it next time I fly.

Yes, I definitely want a book that will grip me on the first page! LOL Well, I had no problem with Jeffrey Archer's books though, he always perk my interest up even on the first sentence. But well, I've read books as well that I wanted to put down after a few pages. And yet, I wanna give every author a chance so I continue reading until it gets exciting on the 3rd or 4th chapter. Oh well, I wanna publish my novel someday, I would feel bad if readers will put down my book and find it boring after a few pages.

I'm reading Shock by Kitty Dukakis. It is a good book, but there is too mcuh in there about the history of electroshock. I'm not that interested in the history of electroshock treatments. I just wanted to find out how it worked for her. I'm getting a book from Amazon that should be arriving soon called "Beautiful Boy."

I think I read the Dark Half a long time ago. Its not bad but kind of depressing and very, very interesting, for me, anyway.
Right now I'm nearly finished a book by Robert Crais, a thriller writer of the now generation.
Not exactly a classic but more like a better class action story, it, well, keeps me interested.
For some reason really good books are becoming hard to find in Port of Spain unless you have either some money or a circle of book-reading friends.
I love John Le Carre, you should try him, a writer of spy literature, the quality of his work is truly outstanding.
Try looking for " The Honourable Schoolboy, " I think that was one of his best.

I'm reading a book named "Be confident and fearless" written by Guy Finley and Dr. Ellen Dickstein, which is very intresting. By reading this book i came to know that the we shouldnt blame others instead we have to realise that what mistake we have done. Instead of lashing out in anger when frustrated we have to remain claim which will improve our real strength.
