Estill Getty won 2 Emmy's. She was the gutsy older lady on Golden girls. She made us laugh and made the show pretty much what it was. SHe and Beatrice Auther were 2 of the main reasons for watching this show. They were at each other as some mother daughters are, but they also showed a love for each other that no one could separate.
Her life got bad as she died from dementia, the dreaded problem many elderly have. My sympathy to the family and her friends.
To make this a discussion. Did you watch Golden Girls? Did you really like the show? I did and still watch reruns on channels that show them. She will be missed.

She sure was mc. And I have 2 grandmothers with alzheimers so I know how this can affect the person and the family. Best wishes for your mother. God takes care of old people and babies.

I heard a little about this before my fiance turned the channel. I didn't know which one it was, but I only assumed that it was her. It is sad that she has passed, and I know that she will be missed!

That's hard to picture, she really made the show. We always have the reruns on lifetime.

I was sad to see that in the paper the other day. I always watch the Golden Girls, it is one of my favorite shows. Sophia was one gutzy old gal on the show, she played the part so well, and I didn't know she was that old. I would of like to see her on other shows, but I guess she made her mark on Golden Girls. My thoughts go out to the family.

I am so sorry to hear this. I really loved her character on the Golden Girls. I used to watch this show frequently but was unable to watch on a regular basis when it originally aired. I watch alot of reruns but mostly when I watch tv alone because hubby and son do not like this show, they think it is silly. I find it really funny. Maybe it is a "girl" thing and maybe we "get it" and can relate. I think I recently saw Bea Arthur, and the other two at an awards show or something on tv, just can't remember what it was for.

Yes Sophia was a treat and will be remembered by many. I remember seeing the ladies as well, but don't remember for what they were showing themslves again. It was a very funny show that my children and I watched regularly.

Yes she will be missed, thank you for letting me know this as I have not watched the news for last few days. I always watch the golden girls, it was one of my favorite shows, I always imagined living with 3 of my friends and being so close to the other 3, I liked Betty White, with her stories, and Blanche who didn't care wht people thought she was having fun in life. Wouldn't you like to have a kitchen that big. These was fun shows, not like these reality shows they have on now, these shows dealt with life.

Hi,
I watched Golden Girls all the time. I was sorry to hear that Estelle Getty passed away. I had heard in recent years she had trouble remembering things and people, even the girls that were on the show with her. Somebody interviewed one of them the other night and she said that it was probably a blessing since had been so ill in the last few years.
At least the Golden Girls will go on with the reruns which I still watch to this day.
Happy MyLotting,
Char

Yes I do watch the Golden Girls almsot every night. And I loved Estill. She really did make the show fun to watch. It is sad to know that she had some really bad times in her last years.
She gave a lot to us and you are so right; she will be missed. But it is really nice that we will be watching her for years to come.

You are so right that we can watch her for as long as they have her on with the reruns and I don't see them taking those off anytime soon.
