a lot of people today, specially the young ones find reading to be boring. they would rather prefer texting and chatting than reading.which i personally think is very important.reading will help us enhance what we know and help us discover what we still don't know.

I am not a good reader . However , I am not among those who don't read at all . I would have read good number of books but for my slow reading speed .
Another problem with my reading habit is that I don't like fiction . What I like to read is a articles dealing with difficult topics and I have to struggle and many a times I end up half done .
However , the internet is giving me opportunities to read variety of topics .
Currently I am strugglingwith Cosmos by Carl Sagan , but very slowly . Another book I have takes up lately is Blink by Gladwell .

hi there shamzy, thanks for the opinion..
reading is not at all boring. its something that you have to love first, for you to appreciate it. Different people have different areas of interests, and i think ur more interested in texting and chatting. i'm not saying that it's bad but rather i'm encouraging you to read even a short article once in a while.

Hi
I like reading and I think the information available in books are more reliable than that available from any other source. I think it is the duty of the parents to inculcate the habit of reading in children. From the young age of six months children will watch the parents and try to imitate them. If they see the parents especially mother reading a book, children also have develop the curiosity to know what is inside the book. Allow them to see pictures and shape fro this age and try to explain them what they are. They will grab the book and give them small hard books which they can not chew as a toy. When they grow to one or two years parents can read to them the story books and grow an interest in them towards reading. The toddler years are best to make them familier with the books and read them again and again.

Sad to say, but it's really happening now.
Internet world is beggining to replace the
readers world. I still read good books, but
not as frequently as before. My internet
world is slowly invading my space. I don't
if it's a good thing or not.

I think reading is really vital actually. The reasone maybe that so many dont read is because they missinterpret the activity. Or maybe they have been scared off by being forced to read in school, and have come to consider it work.

hi despompa!
i still read a lot. i like to read suspense and mystery novels and also some classic. but this is periodical for me. i mean, there are times that i am not into reading and i am busy with other things like internet surfing, watching tv and movies. but there are also times that i am so into reading. like recently, i've been reading a lot of John Grisham's, Stephen King's and Anne Rice's novels. i've discovered a book sale that sells books on 50% off and they are still in very good condition. so now, i'm into a reading mood again.
too bad that a lot of youngsters are addicted to texting and chatting. reading should be encouraged among teenagers because it can help a lot in their vocabulary, grammar and general knowledge.

I personally find reading to be a greatly enriching experience. Reading allows me to know so many things about the external world. Indeed, I prefer the printed media more than visual media like television. I also read a lot of storybooks. They help me escape from the realities of the I don't like reading those novels which deal with the gruesome facts of the world, though. But I don't think that the present generation is shunning reading altogether. Look at Harry Potter. Look at the craze the books generated. Fans were even disappointed with the way the films had been made after reading the books. People are turning to reading again, in my opinion. The signs are good.

You are so right. My daughter is 25 years old and she has complained recently to me that she has trouble falling asleep. I suggest her to read something while laying in bed as this will make her sleepy. It works for me and so why shouldn't it work for her. Because she doesn't read. She doesn't like to read. She doesn't even like reading text messages or instant messages on the computer. She much rather talk on the phone than read anything. So I suspected that maybe she can't read so I gave her a book and asked her to read some to me and she did okay with it. So I know she can read. She just doesn't like to.

I'm on a lot of book forums and am regularly in touch with young people (especially since I am a young person! ) who love to read. I think the internet has been a great thing to encourage people to read, actually. People are able to search for information and spend a lot more time, now, than people used to just reading through articles and papers. They may not see it as reading, but reading online (chatting and texting are a different story, though) has the same benefits -- a more varied vocabulary, more knowledge of the outside world and different cultures, etc.

I used to love reading novels before.. But when I got to college, I had to read a lot of academic books (engineering books, calculus, etc.) so I had no time to read novels..

it's ok and mostly, the interests that you have in high school will change when you reach college. it'll broaden your fields of interest and sometimes the one that you find very interesting in your teenage years, will appear the other way around as you mature since you're preparing to deal with the more serious and matured stuff. thanks for dropping by.

I have always had a love affair with books and still do even though I'm finding it hard sometimes to retain what I read and have to read it over again. I like to read a lot of different kinds of books even those that challenge me. Right now I'm read a book about the past history in the US

Reading is very important. I love to read, but then I am so much a part of this microwave generation that I can get very impatient and if its taking too long for me to find some information out then I will stop. Like I have recently bought 2 new books and have checked out two books from the library. I started reading one of my new books on Tuesday and Wednesday, but I got restless because I wanted to read the whole thing but I really value where I spend my time, so I haven't picked the book back up yet. Then I went to the library to pick up some books yesterday that will help me out in telecommuting and writing a novel. I started reading the book about writing the novel last night but I have yet to pick it up again today. I also have a problem with buying my books on Amazon. I have a huge wish list and I buy books a lot but I never really finish reading the books that I buy. I have to get over this because there is a reason that I pick a book out in the first place to read it.

read or die
this is what my professor in literature told us when he did his lecture in lit 101. reading can actually save us. everything is about us, our feelings, desires, what we need to know, everything. and a good book is a nice companion. i have tons of books at home, and just looking at them make me feel comfy, specially when i have a very bad day.
