What do you think about Facebook?

I have an account with Facebook, but I rarely go there. It doesn't seem to be a place that is user friendly like MySpace. They have all those applications you can use, and you get bombarded by other users to do quiz's, play games, see if you match them, etc. And, it is boring! I have people who are my friends there, but I often wonder what they do there. It is supposed to be a community where you 'connect' with others, but all I see is a 'playground'. It is nothing like MySpace where you can easily send messages privately, or write on their board for all to see. There seems that there is nothing easy there. I never was really attracted to it but joined simply because of a friend. I am thinking seriously about canceling my account.
Just this morning, I was reading an article about Facebook. The title was "Facebook Takes The Fast Lane to Boring". I couldn't agree more! You can read the article on Tech Crunch. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/07/24/AR2008072400959.html
Are you on Facebook? If so, what are your impressions of it and do you go there often?

Facebook is a dangerous site because it infringes on people's privacy. In the very terms and condition of the site, upon making an account, you agree that they may use any information collected in any way they see fit. I have also seen various sources that stated that Facebook was owned and operated by the US department of defense, and it was used to collect information from people voluntarily without their knowledge. (you agree to comply upon signing up for an account, but no one reads those things)

I had never heard who started Facebook. I don't have any information much on there anyway. And I don't ever go except to okay a friend. Why I do that I have no idea since I'm never going to use it. I just don't see any use in staying there since nobody ever writes anyone. It's just a place to send applications to do and it's just plain boring to me.

I have a blog, too. But blogs are nothing like Facebook. I love the comments left on my blog and I interact with them, too. But you don't have people sending silly applications to appear on your blog, such as a hug, a quiz to see if you match them, and other things. By the way, you can call me old, too. My kids used to say we were from the 'ice ages'. Don't really know what my grandkids think. Haven't asked them, but I'm sure they think we are really old, too. They just never tell us.

I have Facebook but I rarely go there. The last time I went there, I had tons of invites to some stupid stuff that doesn't interest me whatsoever. I agree with you, it's more of a playground. Nothing is private. You can read other people's messages and they can read yours plus they know who all of your friends are and you can look at theirs. Ugh..it's just a pain to me. I'm thinking about cancelling my account too.

I hate the way Facebook has all those applications for people to send you these useless things. If I wanted to play, I'd find a game on the Internet or computer to play. I don't have time for the childish things they do there. If someone sends you an application, they want you to respond. I had the account for a long time and never used it. Then, a prayer partner from the UK moved his prayer list to there, and that's the only reason I started being active. Now, I wish I had never gone active. They drive you nuts!! I do have lots of friends there that I've made over the years through my web site or my blog.

I'm on facebook but I don't log in very often. It just seems a bit too invovled to me. There are too many options. I just want to see what my friends are doing these days not send them a drink or give them a bumper sticker.

i have facebook account, and i hardly used it, then i decide i must remember to go in sometimes to check for messages lol but still, i never hardly go in.. Noone hardly message, its all just so and so poked you, so and so sends a girl, or drink or wants buy you etc etc etc.. its just all very stupid and a total waste of time.
At moment in there i expect there is more applications being sent to me to be added.
What is the point to it all, Some of it i find bit confusing.
I just checked my favebook account and i have over 300 requests lool many are ''friends for sale' haha.. kissable friends, gifts, hotties, hugs etc... just getting more and more applications but dont actually make good friends there because all just keep sending applications, to get their points up i suppose, but what is the point thing about.. o i dont understand facebook, seems child play to me haha

You have Facebook down pat! I agree with your observations. I have so many requests and so many people wanting to be friends that I have no idea who they are! I try to stick to people who are at least acquaintances around the blogs or friends from forums I visit. I even have an author or two as friends that I've come in contact with. But the applications there are silly to me. I don't care to send people 'virtual flowers, hugs, gifts,' or anything else. That is just not my thing. I don't know one thing about the point system. That's how little I know about Facebook. I wish I had never signed up on it. Now, I hate to just leave, ignoring those who have requested friendship status on there.

I also have a Facebook account that I rarely use. However, I highly doubt it's less user-friendly when compared to MySpace. For me, Myspace has always been a monstrous hulk. Many of its userpages are impossible to view due to the high volume of Youtube videos or embedded sound clips. Myspace users must really enjoy killing my computer...
Also, you are wrong on the private messaging part. It's perfectly possible to send private messages through Facebook. Perhaps you just haven't found the functionality?
Also, forgive me for being sarcastic, but good luck in deleting your account. I have heard that Facebook makes deleting your account quite the difficult task. I myself haven't attempted to mess with it--I choose instead to change my email so that the account essentially became an anonymous account.

i have to say that i like facebook way more than myspace! i love the applications on facebook, the fact that you can chat on there and the causes (like stop world hunger) that facebook supports; also all my friends, family members on there, so why would i go any where else?

i also have a facebook account and like you find it boring, maybe because I don't go there and use it, I have some friends there, but it just sits and does nothing unlike myspace. I posted a couple things for sale, but no one answered, I just go check to see if any messages from the friends once in a while, if I knew here was more to it maybe I would use it more but I don't see what good it is.

I agree with you totally and as soon after signing up and completing my profile that was the first thing I thought and just though great big frat party (I live in a college town). I got poked my first day and no idea what it was and no idea how to respond to it but I had my Myspace page for facebook and there was just no comparison.

facebook is nice... it is actually better than friendster... more and more people are actually using facebook now and people from around the globe use facebook or are more popular to them than friendster. facebook offers a wider variety of activities you can do or put while frenedster has some limitations. =)_

according to my opinion face book is good. I'm not using myspace because of that i cant compare facebook with myspace. but you can add more applications normally there.. you are not familliar with facebook, that why you think that the facebook isnt user friendly.. but really its nice. today i had a look in myspace. at that time i thought, facebook is better than myspace, maybe because of i didnt use it..

My youngest belongs and had me sign up. At first I was interested, but time and mylot kept me from going back and my profile and such never got fleshed out. Awhile ago, certain things began happening, and I realized that NOTHING put on facebook is secure or private. It is accessible from net searches and I tried to have my account closed to protect myself as I have had problems in the past with private info falling into the wrong hands. They promised they would close my page, but they never did. So now I stay as far away from them as possible. I had to go back and 'redo' my profile with false info too!

Faacebook Rules!
I cannot believe how many lost friends it's helped me get in touch with. It helps keep in touch with friends and you can see what they've been up2 eg, holiday pics, wedding pics, baby pics etc.
I think it was a brilliant idea and Facebook has mastered it.

i too have an account in facebook. i did it simply to communicate with some of my "foreign" friends who didn't have an accont on orkut. but now i go there about once a month(i might go there today. thx for reminding me of that site!!)
i find it pretty boring, though i know they are doing their best to add new features. but the fact is they have made the site too cluttered. something like orkut looks so simple. but with facebook, you have to learn a lot about the features........
