You know, it really depends on your operating system. Im assuming you all use Windows, but consider Linux, free operating system, loads of add ons and music player coming out your ears, and guess what, no viruses, not ever, never.
Sorry, im just a great linux fan and had to take the opportunity to sing it praises.
In Windows I do like Divx, plays anything and clear as a bell, comes with all necessary codec and never fails. Try it, you wont regret it.

Try GOM, it has many codecs that comes along with it making it a decent piece of video player.

I really like Crystal Player and I recommend you try it. You won't be disappointed.

First when i was introduced to computers i used Windows media player as default for both video and audio, then i started using BSPlayer and then a friend recommended me Crystal Player, and i keep using it, for video formats only. I'm telling you it's one of the best, not laggy, and easy to use.

Windows media player is the best to play .avi files, except the quality of sound, it's best. For me i like VLC player, as it's sound quality is better and also visualization is better. If you have VLC player try playing in this player.

My personal preference is Zoom player but there are times that a particular file will not work with this one. What I did is open it in my alternative player like VLC, Windows Media Classic or KMPlayer. All are freeware and support a lot of video format.

Try VLC player. It's one of those free ones on the net. I use it to play my animes or if I don't want the hassle to install codecs. windows media player is ok so as long as you have the proper codecs. the other 3? Nah, hardly ever use it. Once you have a vlc and a codec-rich computer you'll only have to choose between two players.
