What do you mean? There is no "the occult" to join, specifically. There are many occult organizations you can join, but they can all be vastly different from each other.
There may be some benefit to joining one to learn about history, spirituality, philosophy or even some aspects of science, but beware that you're not asked to pay money up front, as there are a lot of fake organizations out there, many claiming to be connected to the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn.
One occult organization I'm affiliated with is the Theosophical Society. You can check out their US website at http://www.theosophical.org.

Personally, I'm seldom for joining anything.. I'm just too cynical.. and hey all things are imperfect, cause they're made up of people.. therefore, I'm always skeptical.
- As far as the occult, it depends on what is occult.. if it's doing spells to affect circumstances, I'd have to say that's can't be good.. especially to try to affect people..
- But personally, I'm an astrologer (yes, a christian astrologer if you can believe it!) and even a tarot card reader.. and I think those two, can be VERY useful, but only if the reader is rightly oriented! As in looking for the positive, and has a good understanding of life, and not of the spell persuasion, etc.. - I think some things are called occult however, which aren't necessarily so, like Edgar Cayce, and Nostradamus.. I'm sure they both thought of themselves as Godly folks.. And native spirituality is often excused as occult also.. and I have to disagree with that too..
