It's easy to forget how important eye health is,until a problem comes up.To avoid macular degeneration, cataracts, blurry "computer" vision you should eat leafy greens vegetables like spinach, collard greens and kale.Blueberries are associated with reduction of eye fatigue,Omega 3 fish oil helps clear eyesight and eye health.Pamper your eyes, try placing two slices of soothing cucumber over closed eyes for 15 minutes,it cools and refresh the eyes especially if you are working on computers everyday.
If you work at a computer, remember the 20/20/20 rule.Take a break every 20 minutes and look at something 20 feet away or farther. This helps your eyes to refocus and relax and prevents the blurry vision that can occur by staring at a computer screen for too long.
Did you follow the 20/20/20 rule ?

In addition to that 20/20/20 rule, it's advisable to look at any green colored objects or surface. Better if you can look at a green tree or green grass. Green is soathing to the eye and it helps relax tiny eye muscles. I tried this and you can really see a little relief of a strain eye. Do not put cold water thru your eye because it will just worsen the soar.

Thanks for that post roshand8, well veggies is good for our health. I love eating veggies too. I got eye problem too, I'm far sightedness, I usually can't stand long hours in front of the computer. We should not wash our face after we work in front of the computer because our eyes were tired. Did someone experienced like the nerve in their eyes are moving or beating. Well, it does mean my eyes are tired... I guess, I don't have 20/20 vision now I'm 27 years old and I usually work in front of my laptop everyday. I usually read my books in a dim light since I was in high school. Well, just an advice to all younger people out there, avoid all of that stuff and take good care of your eyes. And eat some food that are rich in Vitamin A like liver, carrots, broccoli, cantaloupe melon, mango, papaya and many more. Thanks my friend, keep on posting and happy myLot!

Yes, because I sit at a computer about 12 hours a day. I had to go to the eye doctor and he told me this rule. Anyway I started using it and it works really well my eyes don't hurt anymore.

I havent gone to an eye specialist. But since my work involves staring at the computer for long hours I usually take the advice of people in following the 20/20/20 rule. Also some other ergonomics are taught to us by our employers. On the other hand, we have to maintain our health and take it seriously. As you said, I prefer to eat food rich in vitamins, minerals like iron and eat vegetables fruits and natural sources of food. Hope that keeps us healthy and prevents us from health problems.

I usually eat pretty healthy, but I admit I do need more breaks from staring at screens. I do alot of work online, and I write alot (on the computer) and I'm an activist blogger...so alot of time spent online, heh.
Hopefully I can remember to take more breaks. Blurry computer vision concerns me and I get it alot.

No not yet, I been in a computer for almost 15 hrs a day but I have no time to relax my eyes. I know it's bad.... and maybe I would try it now so that I still can have my eyes till I got old. Thanks for the tips and starting right now I will do it.

My mother has macular degeneration and it is an inherited disease, so I figure sometime down the road I will most likely acquire it. Any suggestions to help keep that from happening is most welcome. I do get blurry vision if I stay on the computer too long, so I will keep the 20/20/20 rule in mind. Thanks for the helpful tips! Best wishes!

Thank you very much bmorehouse I really appreciate it,as far as I know there is no proven preventive medications for age-related macular degeneration. My grand mom also had it.You should eat lots of leafy green vegetables, this will help you to avoid macular degeneration,if you are smoking stop smoking and protect your eyes from sun exposure. It is very important for you to have your eyes checked regularly bmorehouse, because members of your family had it I think.Thank you for sharing, keep healthy, have a great day and cheers...

I really do appreciate the topic you brought to discussion. I do try to take periodic breaks but I am going to try to take your advice about taking a break every twenty minutes and giving my eyes a rest. I have heard of the staring away from computer rule. Can't say that I use that rule like I should. But now I am going to heed the warning about eye degeneration. I am going to try to be more careful. Thank you very much for the advice.

I eat a lot of carrots. Why? Because carrots are great for your eyes. One time, I ate carrots just about everyday and my vision began improving. I went from 20/50 to 20/30 in my right eye, and then 20/30 to 20/20 in my left eye.

I hadnt heard of that rule..20/20/20 but im sure that its a very good idea,as if I sit in front of a screen for too long then a headache will begin to appear.Ive always thought its because the screen is so bright, and its bound to strain your eyes, but I may well now try this rule, thankyou.

This is a very helpful post roshand! Very good! I find it worth reading because it gives me useful tips because I'm one person who stays at the front of the computer all the time. So now as you posted, I will rest my eyes every 20 minutes and look as far as I could. And oh yes that cucumber are great. I am always doing that and it's really effective. Thanks again!

I should definitely follow the 20/20/20 rule--oughta help me keep 20/20 vision (which, sadly, I don't have.)
Actually, the 20/20/20 rule is something my optometrist has been repeating to me numerous times. I even purchased a pair of flippers from her (which are basically two sets of glasses attached to a stick--on one side the glasses are +100 whereas on the other they are -100). They are supposed to simulate looking at faraway places and closer places in a short segment of time.
Exercise (especially a sport) would actually do the same thing...except that it would help more than your eyes.
