i have been wondering, if you have a choice, would you become a teacher by profession or would you choose another career. i find that teachers and professors are the unsung heroes which most people don't realize the effort and passion that goes into it.

i never thought that i would be a teacher. it just started out as a part time job just to have additional earnings. but as time goes, it becomes my passion. i love to interact with students. teach them and at the same time learn with them. that's why i decided to make teaching as my full time job now. i really love what im doing.

My parents were teachers but I chose a different career path. I don't think anyone can or should be a teacher. Like you said it requires effort and passion. I know I don't have the patience for it.

Hello,Shiloh! In the beginning I was a teacher, but I left that job because of low salary and there was no prestige either from the students or from the public.the profession of teachership is always looked down in the society as seen these days.Besides there was no life in that job, repetition of same things daily round the year, nothing new.so I felt suffocated there for two years and finally I quit it.thanx.

Hi my friend,
Both of my parents-in-laws were teachers. I thought of becoming a teacher back after I graduated high school but I don't think I'd want to be a teacher in this day and age. The pay is very small compared to the work they do and the effort and passion they put into their job. I would definately not want to teach middle schoo and high school students. From what I hear, the students are totally undiciplines and have total disrespect for the teachers. It would be a hard occupation to have.
Happy MyLotting,
Char

I'd choose another career. We can always be teachers in our own little ways like what we're doing here in myLot we are learning and there are also those who are teaching and sharing what they know by answering questions. Teachers are not only those with chalks and blackboards in the university. Everyone can be teachers without directly earning from it. How unsung is that? My parents were my first teachers. Yours are your first teachers too. How unsung are they? Have you thanked them enough for raising you up into a fine person?...Talking about a whole lifetime career of taking care and disciplining a child is not that easy...it drains the whole person...emotional, physical, etc etc.

I never wanted to be a teacher. I am doing engineering, in computer science and i'm in final year. And also i wont think i will do M.Tech and become a professor. For a teacher or professor, they should know everything about what they are teaching, otherwise it will be difficult for them to survive in professional degrees as all the students pass comments on them and also they should have some style of teaching.

My parents were both retired teachers/ elem school principal and I have aunts and uncles who are also in the teaching profession. Yes, teachers are unsung heroes. Without the teachers and professors, there are no other professionals like doctors, lawyers, engineers, etc. I have a different profession but sometimes, I would think, what if I do teaching as a sideline. I have some colleagues who teach as a sideline, meaning they teach after office hours or every saturday. But I guess, it is too tiresome to do two jobs when you are a working mom as I am now. What I don't like in teaching is that, you have to bring home some test papers to check and do lesson plans. But it is a fruitful and enjoyable work when your students become successful professionals someday and would thank their mentors/ teachers for their success.

yes,you are right,as a teacher you also can realize the effort and passion.i havn't think that i can became a teacher, but i want to became one now.bcause i find the teacher is great one.and you will have a lot of students and the students will very respect you as you a boss in some department.if you are in a department, you will not respect and you even be used as a servant, you uust look at your boss's sight, when he happy ,you happy ,when he sad,you sad ,so you want to be a teacher, and don't became the servant again. i love china.
