Vinegar and newspaper to clean a windshield?

My husband just asked me this and I'm wondering if I understand it... He said that he heard vinegar and newspaper is great for cleaning your windshields. Now, although I think it's "newsprint" (the blank paper before it's printed on) and not "newspaper" I have heard that it is the ONLY way to clean Plexiglass. I had a car once with a rear window that was plexiglas and that's what I had to use because regular window cleaner fogged it up really bad.
Have you used newspaper and vinegar on windows and does it work with printed on newspaper?

Even with the printing all over the newspaper? Doesn't that make even more of a mess???

I have a car, but I have never used vinegar and newspaper to clean its windshield because I did know this way before, now I could try to do it later.

Let me know how it goes. We don't get the newspaper so we'll have to go buy one to try it.

Vinegar is supposed to work better than windex and stuff on the streaking, from what I hear. We're going to try it and see!

I do that as most of people do, just use water to clean it, so I don't know that you can use vinegar and newspaper to do it well, I want to do I will learn from you what I could try to do it as your way.

The printed newspaper definitely works. We do it all the time. Makes for chrystal clear and dry windows. It leaves none of those water drop stains. However, I've never used vinegar . . . seems like that is unnecessary. We just clean the glass with soap and water then dry with printed newspaper. Oy! It's a great day for washing cars. Another heat wave in Southern Cal.

Well, I hope it wont be too hot in Southern Cal in mid-August... Of course my husbands uncle has a pool so we'll be able to dip in if we need to!
I know that vinegar is great for cleaning, but the newspaper had me baffled. Definitely going to try it!

The newsprint works. I use it to clean my computer screen as the commercial cleaners will remove the plastic. Also the one with the ink on it works as well. There is something in the ink that helps. Besides it is dried on so it does not leave black marks if that is what you are worrying about. We used to use the newsprint with the print on it, and the glass got really shiny. You have to be able to make sure the paper is just damp though.

I have heard that vinegar and newspaper is a good way to clean glass. Though it has been a very long time since I've used this process to clean windows. I have used the newspaper with the print on it to clean glass.

That is so strange... I would think that it'd make a huge mess with the print and all. Definitely going to try it out.

I use this all the time. I put a little vinegar in some water and wash my windows, mirrors, storm doors and my TV screen. I don't use the newspaper to wash them, I use a soft cotton cloth. But I do use the newspaper to dry them. It makes your windows shine. No streaks and no lint.
Something else that is good to dry your glass with is coffee filters. They work really well.
But I can't tell you if it works for a car windshield. I don't do windshields. :o)

hmm... Coffee filters? We have tons of those - my husband quit drinking coffee a while back. We might try those too, just to get rid of them :)

I had the chance to test it out last week and totally forgot about it! We were in a rental car with filthy windows and I wish I would have remembered this because it would have been so easy!

Years ago I worked in a cafe and we used the newspaper and vinegar to clean the windows. We used the paper with news print on them. The smell of vinegar didn't last very long. There was grease built up from the cooking. The news paper and vinegar would give them a nice shine. vinegar is goos for cleaning a lot of thing .

Oh yeah, vinegar is a great natural cleanser, it's in a lot of the products that I use. We're definitely going to try the newspaper thing though!

I'm not sure about windshield...but I use a glass cleaner with newspaper for glass surfaces and it comes out really clean. It doesn't get messy....the newsprint doesn't come off on the glass. I didn't believe it would work till I tried it myself around 3 years back and since then that's the only way I clean any glass surface.

Yes, and it is the printed on newspaper, not the blank. There is something in the ink that is a polish. Do not use the glossies from the paper, though. Hubby says it makes it shine good.

Looks like we're buying a newspaper tomorrow. We don't normally get one, but we'll need it to try this out.

We used to have the newspaper delivered to our house and we have used it many times to clean windows, mirrors and car window's. I have heard about vinegar for cleaning glass but I can't recall using it before. But yes, we used the printed newspaper.

I never knew that. But once i visited a friend and she was cleaning her bathroom mirror with the use of paper towel and a mixture of water and vinegar. At first it smells sour but for a while it's gone and her mirror looks shiny and clear. That's for the vinegar....but newspaper...i can remember sometime during my elementary days.A friend's mother inserted a folded newspaper at my friends back.I was wondering then what that is for.Curiosity made me ask the mom,she said she use it to absorb sweat from my friends back.Regarding the newspaper print i don't think it scatters once wet.

My boyfriend used newpaper to clean my mirror for me. I
had never seen anyone do that before. It got really clean.
He told me he learned that a long time ago from someone
when he was a window cleaner. So if the "professionals"
believe that newspaper cleans glass then who am I to
disagree. I don't know anything about the vinegar. I don't
think I would use that smelly stuff.

I don't think the smell stays on it when you're done cleaning - although it doesn't bother me.

Newspaper and a vinegar water solution is awesome for cleaning windows. They get much cleaner than with windex or other solution.

My window cleaner is vinegar based so it does clean much better. My husband has problems with his windshield though so we'll probably use the newspaper and see if it works out for him.

reinydawn hi yes you use regular newpapers and vinegar in water, spray it on, and wipe it off with crumpled up newspapers,
just your ordinary daily newpaper, itreally does work
and does an excellent job too.It is an inexpensive way
to clean your windows without spots all over them.

Yes, newspaper is definitely cheaper than paper towels! Clean windows and saving money at the same time, awesome!

Well, that's news to me. I have used vinegar to clean my windows and mirrors, but I always used paper towels (or old diapers) to wipe them. If newspaper works this well, that's what I'll be using. We always have lots of newspaper!

We don't get the paper so we'll have to go buy one. I figure we'll get the Sunday one today so it'll last a long time! I think the paper towels and diapers (I used diapers on my reading glasses) leave a bit of lint behind and the newspaper doesn't.

I haven't used Windex for years because of the chemicals that are in it. I've used a natural product that is actually vinegar based. It works well for me, but my husband has horrible streaks and fogging on his windows (maybe it's him???).

You can use newspaper that's been printed on. At the gas station I work at we have to clean the windows at the front of the store every day. The window cleaner that they had us using left a lot of streaks and it looked awful. So my manager and I used vinegar and some old newspapers and cleaned all the windows the other day. They actually looked pretty spiffy and were streak free!
