Hmmmmmm... Genuine software really cost too much! Here in the Philippines, almost every software installed in one's PC is not genuine. The original costs around $50 to above $100, compared to $2 - $3 sold in the sidewalk... What a difference..
Personally, i too have installed some pirated software. (At least I'm honest..) But, i know that i must not done those... Honesty still remains the best policy...
Here in the Philippines, we just hope that software will decrease their VERY HIGH prices..

The only authentic software that I have installed on our desktop would be the Operating System itself and I have reformatted that computer multiple times and again for instability due to other software that my brothers or sisters install.
The other applications that I would install would be those that can also be found on the net. As long as you have an internet connection, you can always get software from sites that share them. Games in particular..
If ever I am able to purchase another genuine software, it would be an Anti-Virus Application and I sure hope that they would extend the software's service for at least a few more years so that when the one I have can no longer be updates, by that time, I would be able to purchase a newly updated one.

Well, when you think about it, if we just set aside the money we use to purchase those cheap softwares which most likely came from the net as well, we'd actually have enough to purchase ourselves at least an authentic software.. some are sold very affordable online though..
At least the Operating System first, the rest can come along as it gets available.

same thing in India, genuine software costs bit high, but i partially have pirated and partially genuine.
in India, i think only 10% home users use Genuine softwares, and i hope if rates go down then more than 50% users can purchase Genuine softwares.
so lets hope for the best.
but being a software developer i can understand the pain of the companies whose software are being used as pirated (LOLZ!!! :) ...)
STOP PIRACY!!!

I haven't purchased any genuine softwares.
Most of the time i look for freeware alternatives.
There are a lot of good freewares which are sometimes even better than paid ones.
I too use pirated softwares when i fail to find a freeware.
My xp installed is pirated one. I don't have much money to buy the genuine ones for high prices.

I download torrents especially of those that are hard to find. My workplace uses genuine softwares but those at home are not genuine. The downside of most unlicensed softwares though is that we cannot always update them because the other end of the updater detects that you are not using a genuine copy. I would suggest that software-makers give discounts to students. For example Adobe gives discounts to students learning Photoshop or Premiere so that the makers of Adobe are also assured that someone is going to use their software in the future. For now, students are learning from pirated copies because they cannot afford the genuine.

I too use pirated software. As much as I would like to use genuine software, it's really pricey in our country, especially of what's happening to our economy. Most of the genuine softwares' prices are the equivalent of a month's pay for some. So, I cannot blame those who opt for pirated software...unless they're rich but still don't give a care. I swore that when I start work and really make lots of money, I'll buy the software that I'll use. Software developers not only use brains but whatever they have to provide great programs. They deserve what's due to them.

Yeah. Being a Computer Engineer, someday (since I'm still graduating ^_^), piracy shouldn't be tolerated. That devalues the programmers. it's not easy to make those software.
But i think this also serves a a challenge to the programmers. To totally cease this problem, well, they, or we could develop a software which after being installed once, then the installer will not be useful anymore. It will be as good as deleted! HEhehee.. Hope that would be realized someday... If God is willing, then I'll be the first to make that! ^_^
Thanks for sharing..
God Bless!

...yeah..i agree with you.. genuine software is very expensive... if only microsoft (particularly) won't be so greedy with their software there'll be no piracy.. since i can remember, i think even in my school, the software we're using was pirated... but now, i'm trying to familiarized my self with linux and mac... since their o.s. are free given...

I'm generally using all legit software. I know that it can be very tempting when a pirated opportunity comes along. Software is often more expensive than a typical person can afford. Like all forms of digital copyright, there are multiple aspects and opinions from people on the subject.
Hope you can get what you need.

I sometimes use pirated software too. But being a software developer myself, I know how hard it is to maintain a software project, let alone make a good one. If you like the software you use, you can support it and further its versions by buying original copies of their software. Without our payments, the developers get not cash to redesign and upgrade.
