Have You Ever Caught Someone Trying To Copy Your Post?

I would like to thank my friend (your identity is safe)for bringing to my attention that a new member in myLot was probably copying some of my posts (who knows maybe some of your posts as well. What made us believe he was copying is that the subject and the first lines of the discussion details were identical. The only difference was the way he ended the discussion. Thank goodness the copy and paste function was disabled for this guy otherwise so many of our posts could have been duplicated. Here we are trying hard to come up with some good post only to be copied. This person should just concentrate on replying if it is hard for him to come up with one of his own.
Anyway, I tagged his post and I informed the myLot administrators have a look at it and decide if there was an abuse made.
Just Sharing,
SFC

I had never caught someone copied my posts yet. But it's great to hear from you that you managed to detect the person who was trying to copy your posts. We need to punish this kind of person that want misuse Mylot to gain earnings. It's unfair to people who really put so much efforts in their discussions. Thanks for sharing here.

That is exactly why it takes 500 posts before anyone can copy and post any thing. I found a response that was copied and posted the other day. 2 different people the same exact words and they were one under the other. I turned the second one in because that is what we need to do to protect each other. The monitors can't catch every thing. They do depend on use to help. These are the only times I have turned anyone in for any thing.

No one has copied my posts yet. But there are a lot of new member on here who may post a discussion on a topic that they did not know was already posted. Anyways if there are people like that here on mylot I am sure they will do something about it. But, in a way I doubt it because I sent in several complaints to mylot and they never did anything about it. So I will keep my eye open on this subject. Thanks for the heads up.

They do say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery! Although pure plaguerism (how DO you spell that) is just downright lazy. But allowances should be made for the fact that there is no such thing as "original thought" and sometimes subjects will be repeated, in fact I began a discussion a few days ago concerning language and one responder noted that they had had a similar discussion before. I am now quite careful to check back as far as I can to ensure that I am not repeating an already covered subject, its easily done. I am pleased that copycats will be otherwise done to though, it spoils it for everyone.

That's dumber than dirt! If you're going to copy a post, copy one from another discussion board. To my knowledge, nobody has ever copied mine. I'm glad yoiu warned myLot administration. They'll probably kick him off.

Good. Plagiarism is wrong and should never be tolerated. In fact, I'd recommend that people use copyscape to check and make sure that no one copies his/her replies or discussions. Plagiariam is copying the work of another and passing it as your own -that's cheating and should be reported.

Hi friend. So far, I haven't experienced like this in my 5 months stay here. I've seen one title which is the same as mine, but with a different touch on the discussion itself. It's really pretty annoying why some people can't make their own topic, topics that really comes from their mind and not with somebody's. You did the right thing my friend. This kind of situations has to be reported so it will not happen again. I saw that topic of yours, the one that has been copied, you're right he just ended it differently. Move on friend. Keep posting. HugZ!

Well. Hmmm. Except for book excerpts by winterose, and a few other items here by publishable writers, there is not much that would really be worth stealing. Don't get me wrong. There are some great discussions here. But I can't imagine anyone getting mad because two people started a discussion about the same thing. If something is in the news, of course two or more people might want to start a discussion. It's even possible (although, okay not likely), that two people would begin talking about the same topic similarly. Rather than being angry, perhaps you should be honored that the newbie wanted to copy you.

We really should thank her a lot for extra effort she made regarding this issue. We made a conversion last night and asked me to check the copied, and your original topic. Wow, he was so bright! Bright of foolishness. I was really shocked and no other thing I've done, nothing but to report and asked mylot if they can give a sanction for this totally abusive act of him.

I never caught someone trying to copy my post, yet. But I saw some of the members here copied my response and it really sucks! It's like that they don't have their own thinking and they just copy it to earn money. That is really annoying. But it is not that serious compare to copying post or started discussion. If you are really sure that he copied your post, it s right that you reported him as an abuse. Shame on him! Plagiarism is not allowed here in mylot. Keep on posting and guarding it! Cheers!

Yeah sadly there are so many jerks out here that find it easier to steal others work and post if to themselves. I knew of one chick that was posting like a 100 posts per day, all rip offs other sites.
I did have someone steal my icon once, I made this myself so it wasn't hard to prove it was stolen. That's when I added my user name to the bottom of it.
Glad you reported him/her. We don't need these people around.

It is really bad, if someoneis copying your posts. It is not a healthy practice. On my part, I do not mind, if someone copies my posts. I feel he would have got different set of friends, who would like to reply to his posts and I have got different set of friends. I know if I post a discussion, I would get the desired responses from my dear friends, they do not fail in responding to my discussions.

Actually, we had this "copycat" case last year. My friend "LordWarWizard" started a discussion about someone copying his discussions verbatim and reposting it as if it's his own. He said he never would have caught the "copycat" if he didn't tumbled over his own post under a different name! He then advised us to go over the "copycat"'s homepage to see if our discussions were stolen as well. Gotcha! He stole two of my discussions as well! He's that bad! Well, LordWarWizard started to PM this "copycat" and tell you what, he was even proud that he's copying others! He's not apologetic at all. He thinks it was a brilliant idea. Sheesh!
Oh well, we all reported him to the administrator and he was banned at last. Nobody messes up with the "Lord", hahaha!
You should report the "copycat" as well, so he'll be banned from mylot. We should not tolerate such plagiarism to rule over this site.
P.S. If you wanna read about LordWarWizard's discussion on this, just look for his post entitled: Please help, this guy ripped my article!

well, sometimes if ever I see a topic just like mine, I always thought that they've copied mine,
I always approach them by responding to that discussion and saying that "hey, we do have the same discussions.. why don't you check this out and try to respond also." and I'll give them the link. and they'll respond back that and explain that if ever they will make a discussion, they don't have any idea if it has already posted by others.. , and reason's accepted.. because I myself make a discussions that sometimes were already had been posted.
I believe that if the title of the discussion and the content itself were so the same as yours, well, I believe that was kinda imitating your post and better report that to mylot.

not yet. i i have experience someone copied one of my friends responses and pasted it on the same discussion where my friend responded. lucky he was at the next page (11-20 page) but still i recognize that his response (or her, i cant no longer remember if is a he or she) is the same as one of my friends response. the discussion was about "has mylot improved you english and your speed on typing words". i reperted it at once and his/her response was deleted out of my discussion.
