If you are ever unfortunate enough to spill a liquid on your keyboard you need to immediately get it off and out of the keyboard. One time my daughter spilled a glass of water on her keyboard. Here is what I did: The secret is to turn everything off immediately and unplug the keyboard. Turn the keyboard immediately over onto an absorbent towel to sop up the excess moisture. Tap the keyboard to dislodge any excess moisture. Then use a spray air duster to dry further. Do not turn it on for at least a week until it is fully dried out. Hopefully this helps anyone out that has this problem! Have a great day and happy myLotting!

I just attempt to avoid liquids near my electronics. I mean no one is perfect we ALL spill things from time to time and I'm just afraid to spill it on my nice electronics which could get fried. don't get me wrong though. I still keep a drink near me at my desk at all times, but what I do is i keep it at the other end of my desk. or on a table or surface elsewhere in my room. that way its close by but not going to get spilled when I have an urgent twitch. haha. but sounds like you did a great job of saving your computer and not getting electrocuted either. :DDDDD

This is why I am very careful not to drink around my keyboard. I am such a klutz I would be spilling on it constantly. I would make a suggestion that has worked for watches that get wet. I seal them in a bag with desicant crystals--those little packets that say "do not eat this" that come in vitamins and leather shoes and other things. I save them all. They absorb moisture from their surroundings, then can be put in the microwave for thirty seconds to dry out. I do not have enough for the computer, but this is the same stuff that comes in craft stores to dry flowers. I would get me some if my keyboard got wet.

That is a very good idea. I try not to keep those around though because I have small children and a cat so I don't want to have to make a trip to the emergency room or to the vet's office.

I keep a drink by my computer at all times pretty much. I know one of these days I am going to knock it over and get in all in my keyboard. Thanks. Now I will know what to do, lol.

You're welcome! I know even after our keyboard mishaps I usually have a glass of water near the computer. However I try to keep it far from the actual keyboard or monitor or computer itself, just in case...

That's quick thinking and I hope I can remember it. It's something I expect to do at any time as I'm always drinking coffee. I don't have a spray air duster but I do have a hair dryer...do you think that would work? What if it was something other than water? How would we clean that up do you reckon?

I think the hair dryer would work too. It would dry it out, that is what you are looking for - to dry it out. I don't know if it was something with sugar in it because once it dries out there will probably be some sticky residue.

This is why I always drink out of water bottles and on the very rare occasions that I actually drink out of a cup it stays right with me where there is no chance of accidentally spilling it or Morgana dumping it. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG AND TRUST IN GOD**

That is very smart. You should always take care with liquids and electronics. They definitely do not go hand in hand. Thanks for your comment and have a nice day!!!

some great information here. i'm always drinking coffee or pop when i'm on the keyboard. however, i always keep it on the table behind me. then i have to physically swivel my chair so i'm not over the keyboard when taking a sip. it's close enough that this is not an interruption. i'm someone who gets crumbs in my keyboard. i always run my vacuum sweeper on it to keep it clean.

That is a good idea to keep your drinks on the table behind you. Unfortunately I don't have a table behind me, just my computer desk. I don't get crumbs in the keyboard though - I try not to eat at the computer, but I usually try to drink water all day long, so that is why it is there with me.
