Just a while ago i went to my Mom's school to pay for her tuition fee..to be able to go there i have to ride a jeep and when i am already at the jeep I was searching for the coins that i knew i have but after searching it so many times even my bag i do not have any! i was really embarrassed at my stupidity i only have 5OO pesos bills and it is still early to pay such big amount but i have no choice so i came close to the driver and said sorry i do not have a smaller bill and i thought i have coins to pay for my fare..it was really embarrassing and i am saying sorry to him because i did not intend to do it..thank goodness the driver was nice and have said that it is okay and he did not let me pay anymore 'coz he do not have a change for that..have you experienced the same thing? what did you do?

Oh yes Kaezy I did experience the same thing once when hurriedly left home to catch up with my appointment. I really did not have a single coin in my bag because I changed my bag and I forgot to bring my coin purse with me. So all I had were big bills in my wallet. I was so shy to talk to the driver about the matter so what I did was just to hurriedly go down from the bus and went to the nearest shop to buy something. When I had my change I rode the first jeepney that passed over. But too much time was consumed and I almost got late with my appointment. It became a lesson to me and now every time I change my bag I will make sure that I have my coin purse with it. Experience really is the best teacher.

So you mean you have long been staying in the jeepney and you were only three there! Ha!ha!ha! You can not really go down! The Driver will certainly yell "Mandurugas!" Ha!ha!ha! Well mine is different because as I rode the jeepney I opened my wallet to pay but my coin purse was nowhere in sight so I immediately went down.

Yes, I had once experienced it only that time i was riding a tricycle. And unfortunately we share no same fate: the driver let me roam around to change my 100 bill to pay him while he patiently waited at a corner. I can't blame him though because of the difficult economic situation in our country today. It was really my fault anyway. I just learned from what happened because it was just embarrassing. Happy posting!

yes it is really embarrassing and that is why i am so sorry because i know they need money for their food and my fare would help even if just a little.

Hi kaezy_kulet. It happened to me also...but my bill is only PHP100 and I rode a tricycle to bought some thing in a mini mall nearby. The driver said "I don't have a change for that!" Then, he just told me that It's okay I can pay him back next time around. It's embarrassing but I have no choice, I want to blame him too because it's was late afternoon and he couldn't able to change my money.Happy myLot.

we really can't blame them of they get mad because it is our fault too..we should have smaller bills to pay for small vehicles like tricycles..

my wife always gets angry with me for this always happens to us. she always tell me that i am galit sa barya for i always spend the barya first. and i spend it all down to the last twenty five centavo coin har har har. so sometimes when we ride a jeep or the taxi cab the only money i have is 500 pesos. she does not bring her purse when she goes out with me for we have a two years old son and she brings a bag with kiddie stuffs inside.

It was good that the driver was kind enough to let you ride for free. I haven't experienced that thing yet but at least you have said it to the driver beforehand because a lot of drivers in my observation get irritated when someone pays them a large bill because they think that the person who paid that is trying to escape from paying the fare. Well you might be interested in a blog entry I did a few days ago http://marvelous-magic.blogspot.com/2008/07/paying-my-transport-fare.html it is quite related to your story.

hehehe im glad i haven't experienced this. for me i'll just check my coin purse if i have enough money to pay for my fare then that's the time i will ride a jeepney or FX. but if i don't have a coin, i'll go to any convenient store to buy anything just to break my money hehehe..

to be honest, this never happens to me before... i always make sure that i am prepared and ready before i leave the house... that includes checking my purse and coins if i know that i have to take public transport... so i am really fortunate that this never happens to me before... but even if it does, i just do the same thing like you... apologise... we are just human beings and we do make mistakes every now and then... so it is OK... take care and have a nice day...

I've been into that too. But don't worry, Jeepney Drivers are not as bad as we think. You just have to have a talk with them in cases that you don't have anything to pay with. I've even tried to pay half of what I am supposed to say. Just show a sorry face and ask the driver to allow to ride his jeep. Sometimes, communications matter... ^_^

Not yet. Good you did not received bad words from the driver. He is a kind one, isn't it? Because if not, he may told you that you are using the old style to free from fare, though it is not intentional. All the best,Agihcam

No it never happened to me because I always make it sure before I will go out of the house either if I will go by Jeepney then if I do not have any coins I will ask or take a coin in my Mother's store in the house before I will left or if I go and take a taxi then I guess there is nothing to worry about because for sure they have a change on that amount of money......

it is no harm in telling sorry to people. if they can understand your situation, they will only appreciate you. it also happens sometimes.

That's lucky for u.. hehe ^_^ MOst of the time, i will make sure i have enough coins or fare for my bus rides and i saw it once whereby a passenger has not no coins for the fare, and the driver ask her to change her notes for coins with other passengers on the bus ^_^ As for me, i was short of coins once, and when i board the bus, i told the driver that i will be alighting at next stop because i dun have enough coins for the whoel journey, and so i just alight at next stop to change some coins b4 i took the bext bus home ^_^ hehe

That is what a Filipino is. And even in a basket of rotten tomatoes, you can still find one that is still good. We have grown and learned that people like jeepney drivers are mostly rude especially with road courtesy, there are still some of them remains honest and courteous. And good thing, your driver is still in good mood.

Yeah it did happen to me twice. But the next time I'm seeing to it that i have coins. The drivers work so hard and one missing fare from a passenger is already a big lost for them. Until now it never happen to me again.

We have similar experience when I was still a student. But what was really nice about it even if it's true, very embarassing and other people were watching, I approach the driver in a very nice manner and told him that I would pay him the next time I would see him.He was understanding.I would see that driver frequently because his jeep was among those who travel our school route.
