Have you ever felt an Earthquake before?

Please list the location you were in when the Earthquake happened - city, state and country? Also what room in the house were you in at the time of the earthquake? What time did this occur? Were you at work, on the street, in the car or at a store? Please share your experiences? Are you the type of person to call a radio station to share what just took place? My first earthquake was in 1982 when I was staying at the Armed Forces YMCA in San Diego. I had taken a Greyhound bus from NJ to visit the state of CA for a few months. This was in the middle of the afternoon and I was on the bed taking a nap and the bed had wheels on it and started moving. I found out at the restaurant downstairs what it was. I was 21 at the time. I have since felt all the ones in the late 80s and all of the 90s and thus far that take place in CA. I was living in Hollywood for the Whittier quake in 1994. My apt had the most damage as the tv toppled over and the closet shelves came out of the walk in closet. Had anyone been in the doorway they could have been hit by tv or shelves. We always go to the earthquake website to report our experience for our zipcode to help Cal State techs. I listen to the radio to hear of reactions and the worse time was when I was on the toilet early in the morning and felt it. My neighbor heard me screaming. I had seen on the news years earlier how one guy had problems in his bathroom being stuck due to an earthquake.

Im from Japan. We do get earthquakes. When we go, we get under the dining table we had at our house. I dont have to worry about earthquakes living here in Georgia but I worry about tornados now.

Yes i have felt an earthquake before and believe it or not in England! i was sat in my living room in my apartment and my mum had come up to visit me for the weekend. We were both talking in the early hours of the morning when the sofa moved a couple of inches across the floor! At first i thought i must be drunk or somthing or just feeling things but then i relised i hadnt been drinking! My mum felt it to and we switched on the tv and sure enough like 70miles away in england somewhere there was an earthquake. It was a very weird feeling and noone got hurt. Not that i know of anyway but it was still an experience i wont forget!

It wasn't a real earthquake but a few years ago I visited a friend in South Carolina who had some real powerful fireworks. The explosions felt like quakes.

I have felt a couple small ones in my hometime of Dunedin, New Zealand :) One was when I was really young and it was before school and I just remember diving under the kitchen table! One other I was sitting in a car while my brother's played soccer and the car shook. I thought it was just the wind but then on the radio they said we had just had an earthquake. And the last one was only a few years ago, it was in the middle of the night and it woke me up, it was really surreal, I wasn't sure if I was dreaming or not, but then there was an aftershock later on that also woke me up :) And that's all, they've all just been small ones with no damages reported

Yes I have felt an earthquake before. I was in North Island in the Early 80's I dont remember what year I was in the Navy and was going to a class on the Island. I was out in town at an Italian Resturant eating pizza with a friend when we felt the whole room shake, this was not a big one but it did get my attention

Not that long ago when I was visiting birmingham I was at the coach station when I felt a tremor not far from manchester, then all the car alarms went off. When I got back to manchester I found out that it was that strong that it knocked people off their feet.

We don't get earthquakes too often in Wisconsin. I know we've had a couple but they have always been in a different part of the state.

I lived in Ca. when I was a teen and we had one quake. I was in the bathroom washing my hands and the mirror started to shake. It only lasted a minute or so.

I lived in Santa Monica, CA during the Northridge earthquake of 1972. Scary! I've also been in smaller earthquakes in LA and also northern CA. It's been a while for me, and I don't miss it!

I was not aware that there was a Northridge quake in 1972. I felt the one in 1994 that is known as the Northridge quake. I lived in NJ during 72 so that might be why, although they would have discussed it during the 94 one.
