Do you have salary deductions for late?

My boss gave our payslip yesterday and I was surprised as for the first time since I worked, I got deductions for coming in late. It is a very small deduction as I am late only for 15 minutes but I was still surprised and quite disappointed. I don’t want to come late again. I said this to some of my officemates and they shared that they too had deductions and much more than money. some has 5 hours deductions while one has 7 hours deductions…almost 1 day of work, they are used to it and doesn’t care. But for me, I think it is a waste of money and if I were them I would strive to wake up early to avoid deductions. How about you? Have you had deductions in your salary because of not being punctual?

I think the company was right in deducting from the salary of those who are late as long as the company is not paying you below the minimum wage. I am working around 10 hours a day and I am not complaining because I'm paid way above the minimum. I may be late most of the time but if I count the number of hours I'm working I'm actually working around 10 hours a day. I'm not complaining and they're not complaining of my being late either because they now I'm getting the job done before I step out of the office.
All I'm trying to say is that it's not much on the number of hours that you're in the workplace. You could be there for 12 hours doing nothing and you're as unproductive as those coming in late. Just think of your company as one big ship and all it's employees the crew. Each one has his responsibility. If one employee screws around, it will drown the whole ship and it will drown everyone even those who did not screw around. So I guess administration was just doing their job then deducting from your salaries not to disappoint you but to teach you a lesson because not being able to teach you that lesson is screwing their share of keeping the ship afloat.

I think it was just right to deduct certain amount for coming late. I wasn't have any late deductions on my salary since I always come on time. Maybe your officemates were not that serious on thier work that's why they don't mind having a big deductions on thier salary.

Yah, here in my place of work, there are so many deductions, we have the SSF, PAYE, and when you have a bank loan, it is usually recovered form your salary!

Hello,Miss Honey! In India we do not have the practice of deductions from salary but for late arrivals we have to take leave for half day and in the second half we will be allowed to work.at the end of the month all such leaves will be taken in to account and inform the late comers.this is the practice here.we deduct leave not pay.thanx.
